We seek to honor the presence of God and follow the teachings of Christ as an inclusive Christian Community of Faith. Membership in Binkley is not dependent upon race, age, ability, gender, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, spiritual tradition, political affiliation or economic circumstance. Persons may join this church through profession of faith in Jesus Christ and the meaningful experience of baptism by immersion, by transfer from another Christian congregation respecting the mode of baptism by which one has symbolized faith, by reaffirmation of Christian faith, or by request for a watchcare relationship to this congregation while retaining one s full membership elsewhere. TODAY 3 PM HABITAT HOUSE DEDICATION: Celebrate the completion of our partnership house. The family is fully moved in and loving their home. Please pick up a flyer in the narthex for complete information. THIS WEDNESDAY: INTERESTED IN SMALL GROUPS? Have you been thinking about joining or leading a small group? Join the Christian Formation Committee on Wednesday, November 9, 6-7 pm in the Fellowship Hall to gather ideas and plan for small, intentional groups beginning in January for a specified period of time (6 weeks, month-long, monthly until summer). Small groups are a wonderful way to get to know others, to deepen one's own faith, and simply to have fun! Perhaps you have an interest in a supper group, a group exploring other faiths or learning spiritual practices, a hiking group, a cooking club, or a movie reflection group. All ideas welcomed! Bring your interests and willingness to engage possibilities. Childcare provided. For those interested in eating supper, join the children's choir families at 5:30 p.m. Please bring take-out or home cooked food for you and your family. Dessert and beverages will be provided. ART EXHIBIT the Fellowship Hall includes a number of items that would make wonderful gifts for Christmas or otherwise (paintings, photographs, shawls, etc.) Please give yourself time to check out the exhibit with that in mind. If you are so inclined, you will need to visit the Fellowship Hall no later than Friday, November 18, the last day the exhibit will be up. The next day, Saturday, November 19, the Fine Arts Committee takes down the exhibit. Then on Sunday, November 20, the alternative gift fair is in the Fellowship Hall. MULCHING EXTRAVAGANZA: The fun returns on Saturday November 12, 8:30-12:00ish. If you have been looking for a way to connect with people, get involved, feel more a part of the church-then this is just the day for you! We guarantee you will go home knowing someone just a bit better and definitely wearing a smile. There will be food and great door prizes. Bring gloves and a rake if you have it-if not, come anyway. SERMON SHAPING meets Tuesdays at 1 pm in the Binkley library. Join us for this free-wheeling study of the coming Sunday's scripture readings. DAYTIME BOOK GROUP meets on Tuesday, November 29th at 10:30 in the library. Bill Bodkin will lead us in a discussion of Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.

3 FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE: TIME and TALENT partners with TREASURE. It's simple. November 20th is "Walk of Faith" Sunday. It's the day we declare our support for another meaningful Binkley year. My wish is that each of us takes a few moments midst our busy lives to meditate what we love and gain from our moments at Binkley. In the next few weeks the 2012 "Asking Budget for Ministry" will be shared with you. Copies will be available in the narthex and in the church office. The budget request for 2012 will be rather straight forward - we need to fully fund the Minister of Christian Education position, as passed earlier this year, and manage increases in health insurance, benefits, and utilities, to name a few. I am grateful to our planning committee of Leandra Merea Strope (staff liaison), Velma Ferrell, and Denise Hsuing, as well as our session leaders Stephanie Ford and Janet O'Neal, and our musicians Janice Pope and Jan Clark. Thanks, too, to Mo who handled our registrations. I'm also grateful for our participants who were willing to spend an autumn weekend together exploring spiritual practices. Thank you! -- J. Dana Trent CHRISTMAS MAY SEEM A LONG WAY OFF... but since we are in the midst of Creation Season at Binkley, it's also time to begin thinking about Advent. Join us at 3 pm on December 4 for Christmas Crafts, a Binkley family tradition of crafts and fun, followed by vespers, a chili supper, and caroling. CHILDREN'S FALL SERVICE PROJECT: Calling kids of all ages, and especially those from K-5th grade: help us to make Binkley more beautiful! Please join us on Sunday afternoon, November 13, from 2-4 pm to plant flowers and to clean up the Binkley grounds. It will be a fun way to get involved and a great opportunity to make new friends. ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR NOV 20: Following worship on Sunday, Nov 20, come to the Fellowship Hall to experience the joy of gift-giving that gives hope to many people. The AGF brings dozens of non-profit agencies to our church to inform you about their life-giving work and give you a chance to purchase gifts to their efforts. Heifer International, Habitat for Humanity and Church World Services will join us along with many other agencies. 4 PRESCHOOL HOLIDAY WREATH SALE: As part of our fundraising campaign this year, Binkley Preschool is selling holiday wreaths, garland and bows; proceeds benefit the preschool. Our supplier, Cranberry Tree Farms, offers a selection of sizes and types of greenery. All greenery is treated to ensure freshness until after the holidays. They are custom made with Fraser Fir and/or White Pine. The garland is a continuous 30-foot length of white pine tips.. Delivery is Friday, December 2nd. Please pick-up your order after dropping off your child at 9:00 am. Church members and T/Th parents may pick up their orders between 9:00-12:00 that day. We do not have storage space, so orders must be picked up on that day. If you have any questions, please call Dora Cavallo at or cavallo.dora@gmail.com. Orders must be paid in advance by check made payable to Binkley Preschool. Attach your check to your order form and return it to the glass case outside the 2's classroom by Nov 23. 6 The Invitation to the Lord s Table Holy Communion is a sacred and central part of Christian worship. It is a holy act, in which we, individually and corporately, commune with the Loving God. We welcome all who desire a deepened relationship with Christ to the Communion table. From time to time, questions arise concerning the participation of young children in this congregation s service of Holy Communion. The Diaconate recognizes that two historic Baptist principles inform this decision. Baptists are set apart from many other Christian traditions by our practice of Believer s Baptism, which signifies full membership in the church. Traditionally, many Baptist churches encourage persons to receive the Communion bread and cup for the first time after they have been baptized. At the same time, our historic insistence on Soul Liberty reminds us that Baptists value and respect each believer s unique and personal relationship with God. The Diaconate thus recommends that all members of Binkley continue to deepen their understanding of the meaning of Holy Communion, and that families enter into a time of discernment concerning when their children are able to appreciate the sacred nature of Communion. We affirm the responsibility of all believers to determine whether and when they and their children will partake of the Communion elements as we all participate in the service of Communion. The Discretionary Fund On Communion Sundays you are invited to make a special offering to the Discretionary Fund, used to respond to emergency personal situations in the community.
