1 W Welcome to Binkley! Every Member A Minister! e extend a warm welcome to anyone who desires to unite with this church and share in its ministry and mission. We seek to honor the presence of God and follow the teachings of Christ as an inclusive Christian Community of Faith. Membership in Binkley is not dependent upon race, age, ability, gender, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, spiritual tradition, political affiliation or economic circumstance. Persons may join this church through profession of faith in Jesus Christ and the meaningful experience of baptism by immersion, by transfer from another Christian congregation respecting the mode of baptism by which one has symbolized faith, by reaffirmation of Christian faith, or by request for a watchcare relationship to this congregation while retaining one s full membership elsewhere. Those who wish to join the church are invited to walk forward during the Hymn of Invitation at the end of morning worship. In a spirit of Christian love, we welcome you. Each poinsettia is $6.50, and the deadline for ordering is 12/6. CHURCH COUNCIL UPDATES: * Our new weekly e-newsletter began publication, with the first edition sent out on November 20. Thanks to Priscilla Bratcher and the Communications Task Force for making this recommendation and to Maureen Rosen for implementing it. * C.L. Morton, Chair of the Building Maintenance Committee, has convened a short-term task group to consider options for reducing the sunlight glare entering through our sanctuary skylight. The sunlight at certain times of the year has long been a challenge for choir members as they read their music and we look forward to hearing the recommendations from the committee soon. * Building Use Chair, Jim Wilde, reports that 40+ children now attend the Operation New Life Child Development Center which opened in July at Binkley. Mark your calendars for the center's open house on Saturday, December 12 from 11 am to 2 pm. * The Long-Range Planning Commitee has two main tasks this year. Led by Kay Maltbie, the committee will examine the 2007 Discernment Report, to identify the practical next steps emerging from the report. This will be followed by the drafting of an updated goals and mission statement for Binkley for consideration by the Council and the full congregation in spring * The Finance Committee, chaired by Don Willhoit, continues to develop the 2010 Program of Ministry budget. The Council has called a Church-in Conference to consider the budget for January 24, * Stay tuned for news on the planned Binkley Yard Sale scheduled for August In January, we hope to announce the Yard Sale Co-Chairs and set the date. Be sure to find a spot in your garage, basement or attic now for those donations! CARE TEAM FOR NANCY AND WARREN: A Care Team has been organized for Nancy and Warren. Nancy and Warren have said how thankful they are for the support of Binkley friends. The Care Team wants to coordinate helpful actions in ways that will be supportive to the family and not add additional stress, so please share your concerns with us and we will let you know what the family needs and wants right now. Your support will be very appreciated. Contact Sheryl Scrimsher , or slscrims@mindspring.com

3 GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER! 150 cheerful givers have now pledged 84% of our proposed 2010 Budget. Now is up to those who have not pledged to help raise the other 16%. Our stewardship campaign this year concentrated on what we do with our money to support the work and missions so important to us. People responded in a joyous manner and their contributions are deeply appreciated. Nonetheless, we will have to cut our budget in January if the budget goal is not met. Instead of thinking about what to cut, we urge you to think of what we can do to raise the needed 16%. Binkley is so blessed not only to have those who financially support our missions but who also do the necessary work to make it happen. If you have not pledged, please consider making your pledge this month. Cards are available in the sanctuary and on the narthex credenza, and may be placed in the offering plate or mailed in. Pledge whatever your heart and your own financial situation tells you. All gifts are needed and will be put to good use. - Billie Cox and Karen Long, co-chairs, Stewardship Committee CLOSE THE DOORS! In our ongoing effort to make Binkley Church more "green", we are asking, pleading, begging you to close doors on which you see "CLOSE THIS DOOR" signs. These doors include, but are not limited to, the library door, most of the doors in and around the choir room area, and the doors to the sanctuary. Closing these doors behind you helps keep the church more appropriately warm or cool as the season dictates. So... when in doubt, close any door that you use, but especially the ones that are posted with signs. Many thanks! PRIMETIMERS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON featuring fabulous holiday music by Jan Clark and Janice Pope will be held at Carol Woods this year on Tuesday, December 8th, at noon. The cost will be $9.00 per person. There is space for only forty-five persons, so sign up soon! The sign-up sheet will be on the bulletin board just outside of Beth Honeycutt's office. Hope you can join us for good food, good sounds and good fellowship.
