1 ALL SOULS EPISCOPAL CHURCH TRADITIONAL WORSHIP PROGRESSIVE THINKING GUIDEBOOK September November 2018
2 From the Rector Every year as summer turns to fall we begin the first of three new years that give shape to our life together. A new program year is upon us, which will be followed by the beginning of a new church year when Advent begins in early December, which is followed by the new calendar year, which we celebrate in the midst of our twelve day Christmas celebration. Each new year offers possibilities for renewal, refocusing, and growth. In this fall guidebook you will find myriad opportunities for worship, spiritual growth, and service to our church, our neighbors, and the world. As Christians we are called to follow the all encompassing way that Jesus taught, which means engaging our life of faith seven whole days, not one in seven, as one of my favorite hymns (#382) puts it. How can we together grow more deeply with Jesus Christ at the center of our lives, so we can bear witness to his way of love in and for the world? This is the question Presiding Bishop Michael Curry asked upon launching an effort called The Way of Love, inviting the whole church to take up the practices of a Jesus-centered rule of life. Our Adult Forums in October and November will explore each of the seven practices that Bishop Curry is calling us to tend with intentionality (see right). May his question guide us throughout this season... Faithfully, 2
3 The Way of Love I pray we will grow as communities following the loving, liberating, life-giving way of Jesus. His way has the power to change each of our lives and to change this world. The Most Reverend Michael B. Curry Primate and Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church 3
