We are grateful for her safe passage here and for her message that she will share with us today. Transition Team Cottage Meetings: As we move toward calling our new minister, now is the time to imagine, in a prayerful and thoughtful way, the gifts, graces, and abilities of the person we wish to join us in our faith journey. From April 17-April 30, the Transition team will facilitate small group cottage prayer meetings to allow an opportunity to share with others your vision of who you want our new minister to be. Please prayerfully review this opportunity. Sign up for any meeting by contacting the host directly (A listing of meetings can be found at this link: or by going by the sign up table in the narthex this Sunday before or after the worship service.

This is the opening day for this year s short session of the General Assembly. It is unlikely the General Assembly will call a special session before then. An ad hoc group has begun ten-minute Wednesday evening air horn orchestra performances at 6:30 pm around the Governor s Mansion, using air horns, trumpets, and any other instrument someone wants to play to protest HB2. The young people in Youth Sunday Sunday School range in age from They are bright, inquisitive and compassionate young people. Teaching them has always made my life richer. Contact Dale or Suzy if this opportunity is calling you. dale@binkleychurch.org or suzyosborne@bellsouth.net Urgent need for help with grass mowing. Please consider helping just 1-2 hours every couple of months. Contact Janet O Neal: joneal23@nc.rr.com. The Fine Arts Committee is pleased to announce that there are still note cards available. There is a set of the 12 Lenten crosses for $20 and a set of 2 of the statue of Saint Francis in our courtyard for $3. These make wonderful gifts for friends or for yourself. You may purchase these note cards from the office with a check or the correct cash amount. All expenses for these note cards have been met so any purchases now are contributed to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund.

10 GROUNDS COMMITTEE INSTALLS CELTIC CROSS The Grounds Committee is happy to inform you of a new project that is almost completed at the south entrance to the church. In keeping with our goal of invigorating the south entrance landscape so that it represents the vitality and spirit of Binkley to all who use the building and worship here, we are adding a Celtic cross to the new bed between the fellowship hall and rose garden. This cross, created with pavers carefully installed primarily through the work of Chon Shoaf, is given in memory of Hilda Moffitt by those who generously contributed to her memorial through the Landscape Discretionary fund. The cross will be accented later by a central installation of a sculpture given by another generous anonymous donor. It is the hope of the Grounds Committee that this new installation honors both the memory of charter member Hilda Moffitt and the generosity of the anonymous donor and reminds our church and all who come to our door of the deep love of Christ and the Oneness that unites us all. MORE ABOUT THE CELTIC CROSS John Phillip Newell writes in The Rebirthing of God (a recent study topic at Binkley's Wednesday night series) that the community of John the Beloved adopted a cross with equidistant vertical and horizontal lines touching a center circle. He adds that the Celtic tradition later did the same thing superimposing a circle over the center of the cross. Newell says "There is the cross symbol pointing to the way of Christ, to the love that can bear all things and there is the circle symbol pointing to the oneness or interrelatedness of all things. One of the significant features of the Celtic cross is that the cross symbol and the circle symbol share the same center. They emerge from the same point. So the Celtic cross celebrates that Christ and creation spring forth from the same Source. They both emerge from the heart of God. The deeper we move in the Christ mystery, the closer we come to the One who is the origin of creation. The deeper we move in the origin of Creation, the closer we come to the Presence that Christ embodies." In this cross, we see the seeming opposites of left and right, heaven and earth, the Divine and the human, the life of one and the life of all intersecting at the heart of the cross.
