1 Cokesbury United Methodist Church The Cokesbury Connection October 2012 Our next Sermon Series: FAITH UNDER FIRE Week 1 The Wager: God trusts in Job Week 2 That s not fair: Job questions God Week 3 You better recognize: God questions Job Week 4 Don t confuse the issue: Job worships God Then Job answered the Lord: I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Who is this that hidws counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Hear, and I will speak: I will question you, and you will declare to me. I had heard of you by the hearing of my ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despite myself and repent in dust and ashes. Job 42:1-6 PASTOR S PAGE It is that time of year when your Lay Leadership and Nominations Ministry Team is prayerfully considering the leadership of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. I am very thankful for all of you who have turned in Commitment Cards! This makes our work so much easier as we move towards finding the right people for each ministry at the church. If you haven t turned in a Commitment Card, it isn t too late. We hope that many of you will continue to pray, learn about your spiritual gifts, and listen for God to guide you to a place where you can serve here at Cokesbury. The faithful people who are serving on Lay Leadership and Nominations have been in prayer as they look at leadership positions on different committees and in different ministries. However, we are trying very hard to not think of it as filling positions. Instead, I am encouraging us to look at every opening on a committee or ministry as an opportunity. It is an opportunity for Cokesbury to allow someone to fulfill their God given calling to service in that area. It is an opportunity for someone to be included in the mission and ministry of Cokesbury in a more hands on way. And it is an opportunity for us together to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. So here are a few ways you can cooperate with us in this process: Be in prayer about how God is calling you to serve. Be open to the idea of serving if you are asked to serve. Don t say yes or no immediately. Pray about it. Think about whether it would be a good fit for you. Talk about it with your family and friends. Remember, we are not looking for people to fill positions. We are looking for people who want to advance the kingdom of Jesus Christ through the mission and ministry of Cokesbury UMC. And by all means, let us know if there is someplace specific that you feel God is calling you to serve. We don t want to leave anyone out! I am so excited about the great things that God has in store for us. Working together as the body of Christ we can be the light in the darkness that so many desperately need in their lives. Peace,

We will use the bread in our worship service that day. The proceeds from this event will be used to help with special missions of our church and community. This annual event was started years ago by a B.A.S.I.C class member, Jamey Holt. Although Jamey lost her life to cancer several years ago her memory lives on in this worthwhile event. Over the years our Make, Bake and Grow Auction has raised funds for Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army, Salkehatchie, Costa Rica mission trips, our own Food Pantry and many children in our area schools. Your donations of homemade baked goodies, plants and handmade crafts are what makes this event a big success. Contact Terri Keller or Vicki Keller to donate your items for the Make, Bake and Grow Auction this year.
