2 Fall is usually the time we start hearing about the many different fund drives. You will hear it on any radio station that has to operate its budget based on the generosity of its listeners. There will be challenge after challenge to meet a certain giving goal. This also happens on the PBS channels. You will see those who sit by the phone and wait for your donation. The Church is also an organization that operates based on the generosity of its members. But, the church is the one organization that is responding not because someone is asking the listeners or viewers to give so it can continue broadcasting. The Church gives as a celebration of God s blessings. In the book, Giving, it shares how as children we learned to eat a balanced diet- and it rarely included dessert first. We were taught to be sensible- to eat our spinach and liver and brussels sprouts first and save the sweets for last. But, celebrating God s blessings invites us instead to give first to God. To give generously from our hearts- hearts filled with gratitude for all we have received from God. It calls us to exercise faith that God will take care of all of our needs. Celebrating God s blessings reminds us that giving to God is a cause for celebration- it is as delightful as eating dessert first. In Christ our Lord, Pastor Brenda
3 IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO CONGREGATION To call a Special Congregational Meeting to be held on Sunday, November 8, 2015, following the worship service at 11:15 a.m., for the specific & only purpose of approving or disapproving the Council s recommendation to replace the basement wall of the rental property for $10,000, will occur. Living Each Day as a Steward! As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of god s varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10 As Christian stewards, we seek God s wisdom and strength for the purpose of doing his will. By God s grace, we acknowledge that God is the source of all things, and we live with the awareness that all things are owned by him. When we understand that what we have is on loan to us from God, we live our lives with a different perspective. As we live each day as stewards, we understand that stewardship is more than a part-time activity. It consists of much more than just isolated deeds of stewardship. We are God s stewards each and every day, throughout the day. Our stewardship is incorporated into a lifestyle. It is what we are. It is our vocation, involving our total devotion. Through our Christian stewardship, we express who we are both in character and conduct. The Holy Spirit, through Word and Sacrament, transforms us through his work of sanctification so that we become like our Chief Steward, Jesus. Through his gift of faith, we live to honor the Lord and seek to follow his ways so we can live each day as stewards. This year, as every year, the church will be inviting you to make a financial commitment to God s work through All Saints Lutheran Church, for the coming year. On Sunday, November 1st, you ll be given a letter with what we like to call a Faith Promise Card to guide you in making a faithful, thoughtful response to God s invitation to Live Each Day As A Steward. Please begin now to give prayerful consideration to your commitment for next year. Once you ve completed the Faith Promise Card, please return the Church s side by no later than November 29. Thank you and God Bless!
