Based on that statement, I believe we have had a ball this year at St. Paul UMC. One of the ways that I am aware of the passing of time is through the progress we have made on Forward Focus next steps. It was only nine months ago that we completed the Forward Focus process and adopted several next steps as a congregation. One of those steps was to create a vision statement for our congregation that would lead us in our planning and decision-making moving forward. With the help of our congregational specialist, Rev. Jim Arant, a task group worked over the summer and created a vision statement and a purpose paragraph that further explains our vision. We will measure all our future plans against this statement so that we intentionally bring this vision into reality in our community. St. Paul UMC Vision Statement: Love the Lord, Serve All Purpose paragraph---further defines our vision statement Because to whom much is given, much is expected, and because the most costly gift of all our salvation was freely given to us, we accept the privilege and responsibility of being disciples of Christ. At St. Paul UMC we will love and glorify the Lord through the following: *Worship *Prayer *Bible study *Christian fellowship *Faithful stewardship Love compels us to mirror Jesus by reflecting the good news of His life, teachings, and resurrection to our neighbors. We strive to see the divinity within all people and to recognize all as neighbors worthy of our care. The vision of St. Paul UMC is to provide tools to grow our spiritual gifts so that we might serve as Christ s hands and feet in sharing His love in our homes, church, community, and world. Let us work together in the days ahead to faithfully follow where God is leading us, individually and corporately. We can proceed with confidence, because God is faithful! Nominating Committee The Nominating Committee will meet on Wednesday, October 10, at 3:00 in the Social Hall. Homecoming On Sunday, October 14, we will celebrate Homecoming 2018 with Rev. Tom Norrell. We will gather for a meal following our worship service. You are encouraged to bring food to go along with the meat and drink that will be provided by the church. Please join us for this special day. All are welcome. Finance Meeting The Finance Committee will meet on Wednesday, October 17, at 6:00 in the Social Hall. Church Council Church Council will meet on Wednesday, October 17, at 7:00 in the Social Hall. Asbury Hills Fall Festival Pledge Card Dedication Please complete and return your pledge cards by October 21. On that Sunday we will dedicate our pledges to the Lord at the altar. All Saints Day On Sunday, October 28, we will remember the loved ones from our church that have departed and are now experiencing eternal life as Saints of God. Today, we celebrate the promise of Jesus who gives all who believe eternal life. Let us be thankful that one day, we all will be gathered with God as a communion of Saints. Let us especially remember those who have passed away since last November. Helen Murray January 31, 2018 Angell Adams April 11, 2018 Ruby Herlong August 10, 2018 Charge Conference St. Paul s Charge Conference will be held on Monday, October 29, at 7:00 in the FLC, and will be in the form of a worship service led by our District Superintendent. All members of the Church Council are expected to attend. All members of the congregation are encouraged to attend. Flood Relief In response to the recent flooding in our state due to Hurricane Florence, we are collecting monetary donations on Sunday, September 30 and Sunday, October 7. The monies will be given to UMCOR, the S.C. Conference Disaster Relief, and to Trinity UMC in Conway who hosts our Salkehatchie team. Join us for our Annual Fall Festival in October 20 from 10am-5pm! With plenty of activities open to try, an apple cider press and lunch available, Fall Festival is the perfect opportunity to show off Asbury Hills to your family and friends and see camp dressed in beautiful fall colors. If interested in going to this event, contact the church office or Maurica Easler (803) or msalleneasler@gmail.com. Operation Christmas Child Now is a great time to collect some items for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Please pick up a flyer in the vestibule for suggestions of items to fill your shoebox.
