United Methodist Women The Trinity United Methodist Women 's October meeting was hosted by Beth and Mildred Townsend. One of the missions that UMW gave to was the Healthy Families, Healthy Planet project which provides Birthing Kits to women in Third World countries. Our Gateway District UMW gave $2,048 for 256 kits. The Candleburning honoring Edna Whittle and in memory of Joyce Hendrix and Helon Boyette took place at the NCCUMW Annual meeting On Saturday, October 12 at Methodist University. Our annual Thank Offering will be taken at the November meeting. Also at the General UMW Conference on October 26, Trinity-Red Springs was awarded the Mission Today Certificate For Turning Faith, Hope And Love, Into Action. Jackie Rentz gave an inspiring program about her recent trip to South Dakota, where she enjoyed the beautiful artwork of a local Christian artist, who paints murals in his town for charities and churches. She also shared with the group the needs in Nicaragua for clay pots to filter water for drinking. Each pot cost $26. All donations from the congregation will be accepted. Mark your offering "Clay Pots" and enclose $26. These Clay Pots will purify their drinking water and will last the families 6 years. Todd and Jackie will take the money when they go on the mission trip in February. Jackie also has a personal fundraiser of crocheted "Prayer Bears" which she sells and uses the money for needs in Nicaragua. The Senior Citizens meeting was held at Trinity on October 11 with Beth, Beverly, Carol, and Grethe planning and serving. Refreshments and Bingo games were enjoyed by the guests, who received fun prizes We welcome any one who would like to join us. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 pm. SPECIAL THANKS The new equipment was given by a person who would like to remain anonymous. Danny, Kade and Tanner McPhaul, Howard Batton, Marshall McDonald, Billy Ray and Rebecca Jackson all worked hard to get it ready by Homecoming. Billy Duncan had a load of sand delivered for leveling out the area. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP SPREAD THE SAND!

2 Page 2 Samaritarian s Purse The collection week is Nov When creating your box you should determine if you re going to do a box for a girl or boy. Things to include are SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc. TOYS: Small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky, etc. HYGIENE ITEMS: Toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc. OTHER: T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries). You may also include a personal note including your name and address so they child may respond. Attached is the website for more info: e.org/operationchristmas-child/pack -a-shoe-box/ GIRLS SCOUTS Girl Scout Troop 1623 has had an awesome start to this 2013/2014 Girl Scout year. The first fundraiser of the year with our local McDonald s was very successful. Over half of our Girl Scouts turned out to volunteer at this event. Here s a BIG Thank You to those Trinity United Methodist Church members that came out to support our troop as well. We are currently wrapping up our second fundraiser of the year, the Girl Scouts Special Thanks. CUB & BOY SCOUTS The Boy Scouts went to Princess Ann Park of Orrum, NC. The Scouts collected 800 lbs. of trash allowing 3 Scouts to receive the Conservation Badge. The Scouts also enjoyed an outing at Camp McNeill a few weeks ago. Within the next few weeks the Scouts will be distributing door North Carolina Coastal Pines Fall Product Sale. Pastor John so graciously performed the Invocation and Benediction during our Girl Scout Pinning Ceremony on Monday, October 21. Our Girl Scout troop is somewhat smaller this year consisting of only 54 members. Even though we were low in number for attendance during our Pinning Ceremony our Girl Scout Troop is hoping to make a big impact on the area with our activities. hangers for Scouting for Food for the needy families. Ms. Kammala Brayboy the Robeson County Girl Scout Membership Director, Ms. Anika, a few of our Senior Girl Scouts, and I attended the Palmer Prevention Red Ribbon Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 24. During the luncheon Girl Scout Troop 1623 was awarded a beautiful plaque for their part in promoting awareness of underage drinking. This plaque is proudly displayed upstairs on our Trinity Scout Wall. I wish to thank my brothers and sisters in Christ for the prayers and love for my mother Delarena and my mother-in-law Toie. Our prayers are the richest and dearest gift we can give to one another and you give so abundantly. 3 Page 3 A Letter From the Pastor Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ Our Lord! We come to you with the news of a very successful Homecoming for 2013! On Behalf of the Leadership Team here at Trinity U.M.C., we would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU for all the laity did in Food Preparation, Clean-up, and general attention to the details to make this years Homecoming a Complete Success!!! To God be the Glory! We had 126 in Worship, and Sunday s giving exceeded $ ! I am very excited about what the future holds for Trinity UMC, and our entire church family!!! Thank you for your understanding of my absence the week of October 19th, as we were away at Triad UMC in Greensboro, NC, preaching their 2013 Fall Revival. Robeson County native Joel G. Locklear, Jr. is the Pastor of a two -point charge there. We were blessed to travel there to share the Gospel, and your prayerful support was greatly appreciated. Your church continues to grow, and become more financially secure. Giving has increased, because you have returned to the tithing principle, and increased your faith giving based on the needs of the Church! I am very proud of you all! Some of you still need to make that first monumental step toward becoming a tithing member of Trinity. Here is my challenge to you pay 10% of you gross income for 4 months see what new doors God opens for you in business, family, and social and civic order. JUST TRY IT!!! I promise you that God will bless you in abundance!!! In other areas, we still have a heavy workload before us with creation of a New Church Roll Book, and a filing system that is readily available and accessible to everyone. We continue to look for new face to minister to, and hope you are inviting your unchurched friends and family to join us here at Trinity. GOD IS AT WORK HERE..Lets help him!!!
