Call Janet Taylor-Smith at From Out Pastors on The Way Forward It is hard to find the words that speak to the deep hole in my heart over the actions of the United Methodist Church yesterday. The actions of the General Conference to draw harder boundaries instead of opening wider doors to the LGBTQI+ community is nothing my Jesus would ever do. Jesus was all about making a place at the table, welcoming the outcast and preaching against judgment. The General Conference chose a different path. Though the US delegates voted 2-1 in favor of the One Church Plan, the Traditional Plan won the day we will have to see what that means in the coming weeks and months, even as its constitutionality is challenged. What I do know is that a very broken religious institution inflicted tremendous harm in this decision. This is NOT of God. I believe God will do a new thing, and Epworth can be part of the new expression of Methodists who do all we can to resist evil and injustice of every kind. Rev. Todd and I want to stand on these words Epworth is Epworth. We will not change except to be even bolder and more sure that God has placed us in the Rehoboth- Lewes area as a beacon of hope to ALL and All means All! When Epworth was located on Baltimore Avenue in downtown Rehoboth, the faithful people of God took a stand, opened our doors to all and became the only Reconciling U.M. Church in Delaware. We build on that legacy every day. We are the community of faith that is sure of the welcoming love of Jesus and whether or not the United Methodist Church agrees with that, doesn t matter. Hold each other friends, show love and don t lose hope. God will deliver us. Vases are now overflowing Due to your generosity, we no longer need vases. Thanks to all. Fair Trade Products Fair Trade products will not be for sale today, but will be available on Sunday, March 17 and then again, as usual, on the first Sunday in April. March 18 SPRC Meeting The March SPRC meeting will be on March 18 at 5:00 p.m. instead of 4:00 p.m. Good Sam s Fundraiser Today Today there is an art exhibit/sale. Local artist, Lynette Larsen, plans to donate 80% of all sales to our Good Sam s outreach. Her artwork will be on display (and available for immediate sale) in Scott s Chapel from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Please support this worthwhile project! Miracles Happen Every Day We toss around the word miracle in countless expressions these days, but do we really expect miracles, do we actually believe they can happen? And how do we Inviting All, Finding Your Place, Connecting to God, Demonstrating Care
4 even know? The Pastors are planning a short sermon series for summer on modern, everyday miracles. If you have experienced a miracle no matter how grand or how small and would like to share this, please compose a short narrative about the experience, the miracle, the details. Either this to Deb Hunt at dhunt@eumcrb.org or drop it by the church office, to the attention of Deb Hunt by no later than April 1. We would love your submissions, even though we can t guarantee they will be used as illustrations in our sermons. All the miracles shared will go into the research for our sermon writing and planning. Please include your contact information in case someone needs to contact you. Earth Day at Epworth Mark your calendars for the Earth Day at Epworth weekend, April 27 and 28. The weekend will include outdoor activities on Saturday, 4/27, and indoor displays, exhibitors and a guest speaker on Sunday, 4/28. This year, our focus will be Weaning Ourselves off of Plastics. There will be much to see and learn. Look for more details in the weeks to come. See you there! In connection with Earth Day at Epworth weekend on April 27/28, there will be a judged display of submitted photos depicting plastic trash that litters our grounds, waters and even our trees and plant life. We are calling this display Blowing in the Wind: A Plastic Catastrophe. The rules are simple: 1. Take pictures of plastic waste in our local environment, whether it be in your neighborhood, a park, the ocean, a lake, side of the road, etc. 2. All pictures cannot be posed, but rather show plastics as found around us. 3. Sizes of submissions can range from 5 x 7 to poster size. Photos need not be framed or matted, and even plain paper copies will be accepted. Drop them off on Sunday at the WINGS table in the Narthex through April 21. Include your name & phone No. on the back so they can be returned and for judging. All ages are invited to participate. The Green Team at Epworth is focusing on Weaning Ourselves off of Plastic this year and has a request of all church members and attendees. If you have a stash of reusable bags that aren t being used, please bring them to church and drop them off at the WINGS table on any Sunday. We will use these bags instead of single use grocery and other plastic bags for our Good Sam, ISOP, and Food & Love kitchen programs. Thanks for your support! Like to Sew? We are making reusable grocery bags for the Food Pantry, Good Sam and Food Rescue to eliminate the use of plastic grocery bags. These bags will be made from rescued 50 lb. polypropylene animal food bags (horses, chicken, dog, cats). We also need sources for these bags. We are looking for help in sewing a very simply constructed bag with strap handles. The bags were designed by Kelly Klein, Gail Gingrich s daughter. We can sew as individuals or get together for a day of sewing and socializing. If you are interested, please contact Gail Gingrich at gvgingrich@gmail.com or There will be a sample bag at the WINGS table today. It s time to get your GREEN on at...epworth Writers Fellowship On March 10, Epworth Writers will briefly examine Celtic spirituality before and after Saint Patrick and the important role of writing in Celtic culture. A leprechaun may even bring a few fun limericks. Our group is open to all. Each month, Epworth Writers will focus upon a different aspect of writing. We will also give attendees an opportunity to share their current writing project for gentle feedback from the group. If you wish to present your writing in March, just bring at least eight copies to pass out. Come meet with others in a warm, encouraging fellowship, where we can share what sets our hearts on fire, our faith and our writing! Please join us on March 10, 2019, at 10:45 a.m. 12:15 p.m. in Scott s Chapel, immediately following the 9:15 a.m. worship service.
