1 a United Methodist Church 11:15 a.m. Worship Service Sunday, March 20, 2016 Palm/Passion Sunday (Year C) Welcome to Epworth and our celebration of Palm Passion Sunday. Today we enter into the journey of Christ s final days on earth. We begin our celebration with His triumphant entry into Jerusalem, marked by waving palms, an ancient custom for greeting royalty, and shouts of joy. But soon the journey changes and the road to Golgotha is accompanied by the cries to crucify Him. We are encouraged to experience the depth of Christ s great love for us and to listen to the call to follow Him. Today, we also join in celebrating a baptism and the welcoming of new members. The journey doesn t end here, our celebration proclaims, but continues on through Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the glory of Easter. Thank you so much for joining us today. May your Holy Week journey be blessed! The Practice of Radical Hospitality... "Hospitality means we pray, plan, prepare, and work toward the purpose of helping others receive what we have received in Christ. Hospitality is a quality of spiritual initiative, the practice of an active and genuine love, a graciousness unaffected by self-interest, an opening of ourselves and our faith community to receive others. Radical hospitality offers a surprising and unexpected quality of depth and authenticity in caring for one another and guests...and surprises newcomers with a glimpse of the unmerited gracious love of God that they see in Christ." While these costs are now covered, additional donations earmarked Keep Our Children Warm will go toward meeting future repair and replacement expenses of this nature. In a church of our size, this need tends to be nearly ongoing. FILMS ON WOMEN S STORIES SHOWN DURING MARCH During Women's History Month Epworth s Social Justice Pathway is pleased to support the Women's Film Series presented by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society. We bring to your attention the film "Radical Grace", showing on Thursday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cinema Art Theater (behind Wawa), Dartmouth Drive, #2 Dartmouth Plaza, Lewes. 2+12=1 REALLY?! Musicians Karen Hirshon and Linda Littleton play a wide variety of ethnic folk music. Throughout their performance, Simple Gifts puts their own distinctive stamp on traditional tunes, creating some of the finest arrangements in folk music today. LISTENING POSTS PREPARE DELEGATES FOR GENERAL CONFERENCE Just three months from now, the General Conference of the United Methodist Church will take place in Portland, Oregon. The General Conference is our denomination's top legislative body for all matters affecting the United Methodist connection. Between 600 and 1,000 delegates from all over the world, half of them lay persons and half of them clergy, will meet to make important decisions about Methodism, its policies and its practices. The Peninsula-Delaware Conference (of which Epworth is a part) sends several lay and clergy delegates to this important meeting. Our local delegates want to hear what you think on the important issues facing the May General Conference. They invite you to come to one of the two Listening Posts to get a brief overview of the issues. You then will have time to ask questions or make a short statement on what concerns you most. The Listening Posts, both from 10:00 a.m.-noon, are on April 2 (Bethesda UMC in Middletown) and April 16 (Union Bridge UMC in Bridgeville). If you prefer to send comments, mail Delegation Chair, Kevin Goodwin, 440 Haystack Dr, Newark DE EPWORTH LOCKS DOORS FOR SAFETY Other than on Sundays, the only outside doors open are the Bayside doors (facing Rt. 1).
