Today is the final Sunday in a series on prayer entitled, God Listens! We have explored different ways we communicate with God using stories from the Bible. Today, we examine a person, Zacheus, who finds himself up a tree trying to get a better view of Jesus. He feels isolated from others and alone in a crowd while he is out on a limb. Yet his life changes as does his understanding of himself when Jesus invites him down for a one-on-one conversation. Prayer may be a Interested in Becoming a Member of the Epworth Church Family? We are a nonprofit organization, relying on annual tuition and supply fees to cover our operating expenses. Epworth Preschool offers scholarship assistance to families, based on financial need and scholarship fund availability. Monthly fundraisers are held to help offset the difference in tuition costs and scholarships, and we also rely on the generosity of private donations from preschool families and friends. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation towards our scholarship fund, checks can be made to Epworth Preschool/Memo- Scholarship Fund and we will provide you with our tax I.D. number. Thank you! Care Line Phone Number To contact Epworth s Pastoral Care Team, call the Epworth CARE LINE number, Reaching Out, Celebrating and Living the Love of Christ in God s World.

7 New Approach to Cookie Drive for SCI It is time for the Gooch Family annual Cookie Drive for Prison Ministries, a SCI Project. As many of you know, this project was near and dear to the heart of our mother, Betty Gooch. We remember our mother tirelessly baking cookies for many hours for the prison population. Her family wishes to continue honoring our mother s legacy with your help. Changes regarding the cookie drive have been due to our local Correctional Institution s ACA accreditation. Cookies offered in SCI can no longer be baked in outside kitchens. It has been suggested that we purchase the cookies through the prison vendor. The cost per box is $1.00 and SCI currently has approximately 1200 inmates. As a correctional officer, I know how much the inmates look forward to the cookies. It truly lifts their spirits. Your monetary donation in any amount will be greatly appreciated. Checks should be made payable to: L.R.C.A. Prison Ministry and sent to P.O. Box 467, Milton, DE Deadline for donations is Tuesday, November 15. Thank you! For more information contact Katina (302) or Tiffany (302) We can also be reached at (302) New Opportunity to Serve! Administrative Assistant Needed The New Life Thrift Shop (NLTS) has just created a new twenty hour per week volunteer position. The person filling this position will: Enjoy warm interactions with NLTS volunteers and customers; Provide significant, on-going support to busy NLTS operations; Have scope for creativity, initiative and increasing responsibility; Be committed to supporting the local charities that rely on NLTS. Abilities in MS Office, and/or Spanish are pluses. Start date is January Duties will include, but are not limited to, answering phones, maintaining files, and scheduling pick up of donations and delivery of furniture. Please call Peg Green at to discuss further. Fair Trade Items Available Next Week The Social Justice Pathway, in support of the Coffee Project of UMCOR (UM Committee on Relief) will have Fair Trade Items in Fellowship Hall Sunday, November 6, 8:45-11:30 a.m. Immanuel Shelter provides shelter for homeless adult men and women, offering protection from the harsh, sometimes life-threatening winter elements. Children accompanied by one or both parents who are experiencing homelessness in the Sussex County area are sheltered in local hotels as Immanuel Shelter funds permit. Immanuel Shelter Code Purple services include offering shelter, food, clothing, basic human necessities, and friendly companionship. Compassionate, trained and skilled staff and volunteer services demonstrate a respect and dignity for all Immanuel homeless guests. It is only with support and donations that the shelter can remain open to provide for as many as 40 persons a night. Many opportunities exist to provide help: financial donations, providing the evening meal for one night, volunteering to assist for one evening, etc. You may learn more and sign up at our table in the Narthex on Sunday mornings, November 13 and 20.
