Today we celebrate Christ the King Sunday. This is a celebration instituted by the church so that we will remember that Christ is the highest priority in our lives. In a world where worldly leaders vie for our attention, we are called to remember Christ who is our Lord and Savior. Re-affirming that commitment is an amazing thing to prepare ourselves as we move into the Advent season. We are grateful that you have chosen to worship with us today and hope you find our faith community welcoming. FYI: Should you have a Pastoral Care Emergency on the weekend, our Care Line Phone Number is Safety Measures at Epworth From now on, all the doors leading into the church building will be locked on Sunday mornings, 15 minutes after worship begins. So, at 8:00, 9:30 & 11:30 a.m.. The outside entrance doors, both front and back, will be locked. If you should arrive after that time, please stand and knock and someone will let you in. This decision was made because of our desire to protect our church, our staff and those who come to worship on Sunday morning. You may also see our Safety Team patrolling the halls and lobby during worship again, other measures to keep us safe and able to worship God in peace. We appreciate your patience and support of these changes. Epworth Gift Card Sales We are helping to make Christmas gift shopping easier by offering gift cards again this year! Gift card order forms will be on the Git card table in the Narthex. Orders will be taken now through December 10. The gift cards will be ready for pick-up Sunday, December 16 at the Gift Card table or in the church office from December during regular business hours. Payment is due when the cards are ordered. All proceeds benefit our Christmas Joy365 program. WINGS Open to all women who consider service to be one of their spiritual gifts. Help us help others. We will be sorting the gifts that members have brought in on 12/7 to see what is still needed. 12/8 will be our BIG wrapping day in FH. Lots and lots of helpers needed. Last year, we could have used more helpers! Grab a friend to bring with you! On 12/10, shopping lists will be given out in Scotts Chapel at 9:00 a.m. If you love to shop we ll see you there! 12/11 & 12/12, will be last minute wrapping in Scotts Chapel at 9:00 a.m. 12/1212 we will be delivering gifts to Cape Henlopen School. We meet in FH at 9:00 a.m. We need strong men and boys. Last year we only had 3 people. 4 Southern Delaware Chorale Concert The Southern Delaware Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Colin Armstrong, will present a concert performance of G. F. Handel s Messiah, with the Mid Atlantic Symphony and 4 professional soloists, on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cape Henlopen High School, 1250 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE F o r t i c k e t s, p l e a s e g o t o Puzzles in Lewes, Browseabout Books in Rehoboth, or any Chorale Member. Fair Trade Products Fair Trade products make excellent Christmas gifts for friends, families and co-workers. The Equal Exchange coffees, teas, chocolates and other products sold by Epworth s Social Justice Committee are high quality, contain farm products grown using sustainable practices (most are organic), and show your gift recipient that you care about the small farmer families behind these items. There are two things you can do in early December to get ready for holiday giving: Place an order for gift baskets at the Fair Trade sales table on December 2 (first Sunday of the month). You can pick the items or give the team a price range and let Committee members choose products for you. Select individual items for gifts at the Fair Trade sales table and do the wrapping or other presentation yourself. Celebrate the Season with Capital Ringers! Capital Ringers, a community handbell ensemble, is getting ready for their 2018 Celebrate the Season! holiday tour. There are concert locations for everyone Milford, Lewes, Salisbury, Easton, Selbyville, Berlin, Dover and Milton. Peace Week Advocate The Social Justice Committee is looking for someone to lead a sub-committee to help organize EUMC s participation in Sussex County s annual (September) Peace Week Delaware celebration. Area local churches meet to plan activities in conjunction with a statewide organization. Ideas are shared through PeaceWorks, a weekly service. Revolution (the name of our youth group) is inviting any and all kids, grades 6-12, to come and check it out. The group meets every Wednesday night from p.m. for a time of sharing, learning, snacks and fun. The group also has a number of fun activities planned for the fall and winter. Volunteer for as little as 3 hours per month to help those in need. Miriam s Table Dining Out Miriam s Table Dining Out will be hosted by 208 Social located in downtown Rehoboth Beach at 208 2nd Street on Thursday, December 6. They will be serving from 5:00 9:00 p.m. with 15% of your bill going to feed our children. Such a fun place to eat with a staff that feels like family. So enjoy your day and treat yourself to dinner out with us! 6 Like to Pray? Epworth s Pastoral Care Team needs Volunteers! Life is good here at Epworth Church! But what if you are sick, in the hospital, homebound, receiving hospice care; what happens to your spiritual life then? Who will pray with you and your loved ones, how will you receive communion? Your church family feels a commitment to each individual s spiritual and emotional well-being. Our Pastoral Care volunteers play an essential role in enriching the spiritual lives of members of our congregation when they are sick, homebound or unable to attend church, and in need of spiritual prayers and healing. You could make a difference in someone's day by providing prayerful companionship. Volunteers in this area have a strong interest in prayer, are very caring with heartfelt sincerity, have patience and are able to offer a respectful, sympathetic and comforting attitude with members of our church and their family members who are in need of prayerful companionship! We are looking for folks who like to help others and have an interest in finances or investments. We meet for one hour four times a year to plan our Marketing, Financial seminar, Legacy Luncheon, and Investments Strategy. We focus on projects such as last year when we had a team of members paint the education wing. Gather at the Skate Park Beginning October 17, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., we are having a cookout and fire pit at the skate park. This is our chance to meet and engage the young people who visit our skate park. Our goal is to encourage them to continue using the park and know they are welcome here at Epworth. We encourage our youth to come out and meet these young people and get to know them. The cookout and fire pit evenings will include: hot dogs, chips, drinks and s mores! If you are interested in helping, you can sign-up at the WINGS Table. Or, just come out and join us for a fun Fall evening! We will have the cookouts every Wednesday October 17 through November 14.
