1 9:15 a.m. This Week at Epworth 9:00 a.m. Christmas Joy Auction 10:45 a.m. Deaf Bible Study 2:00 p.m. Soup Kitchen Welcome to Epworth! Welcome to Epworth! During the next three Sundays, we will be looking at prayer in our sermon series entitled God Listens. Often we think of prayer as a one way experience between God and us, with God doing the listening and us doing the talking. Sometimes we think of prayer as a to-do list between God and us - but prayer is so much more than just that. During these 3 weeks, we ll be exploring prayer and the many different ways we can communicate with and hear from God. We ll be using several different stories in the Bible to help us learn about prayer. Today s lesson about the persistent widow will help to show us what we learn as we keep praying in spite of obstacles and troubles. We are glad you are worshipping with us today! 3:00 p.m. Jesus in the Gospels 4:15 p.m. Trustees 6:30 p.m. Disciple II 6:30 p.m. Disciple I 9:00 a.m. Women s Bible Study 6:30 p.m. Disciple III 5:30 p.m. Kiva@Epworth 7:00 p.m. Choir 4:30 p.m. Disciple IV 5:30 p.m. Memorial Bells 6:30 p.m. Epworth Pickleball 7:00 p.m. Praise Team Interested in Becoming a Member of the Epworth Church Family? 5 October is Pastor Appreciation Month! Anytime is a good time to express appreciation for pastors, but that is especially true during Pastor Appreciation Month in October. Every October churches across North America give focused attention to appreciating their pastors in tangible ways. We will be celebrating Rev. Vicky and Rev. Glenn in a special way today. However, The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) encourages you to show your appreciation to our pastors throughout the entire month. Why not write them a note of encouragement? Or pray for them in a special way one day and let them know you are praying by sending them a quick e- mail message? Let s help them FEEL THE LOVE! UMW at Creekside October 22 The United Methodist Women welcome all the women of the church to our annual unit meeting. It will be on Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Creekside Cafe (at the golf course ) on Old Landing Road. It will be good to see all of you there. 6 Campus Ministry Epworth s Campus Ministry program is seeking to update our list of Epworth college students as the school year begins. The goals of Campus Ministries are to let our students know they continue to be in our thoughts and prayers throughout the school year, and to send them a 'Care' package filled with goodies as they prepare for finals each semester. Please contact Kathy Shook by phone , or kshook@mchsi.com with the name of your student, the college he/she is attending, along with current mailing and addresses. We are a nonprofit organization, relying on annual tuition and supply fees to cover our operating expenses. Epworth Preschool offers scholarship assistance to families, based on financial need and scholarship fund availability. Monthly fundraisers are held to help offset the difference in tuition costs and scholarships, and we also rely on the generosity of private donations from preschool families and friends. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation towards our scholarship fund, checks can be made to Epworth Preschool/Memo- Scholarship Fund and we will provide you with our tax I.D. number. Thank you! Sacred Drumming and Lectio Divina Meditation Sacred Drumming and Lectio Divina Meditation will be canceled for the time being until there is some clarity as to what day and time will suit the majority of attendees. Please contact Nettie Green for more information, nettiegreen@comcast.net or Reconciling Ministries Bible Study Beginning on Monday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m., Epworth will be offering a 15-week Bible study based on the book God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality, by Jay Michaelson. In his book, the author argues that God versus Gay is a myth that is untrue, unsupported by Scripture, and contradicted every day by the lives of religious gay people and that instead, the Bible and centuries of religious teaching in Christian and Jewish traditions argue strongly for a policy of equality, inclusion and dignity for sexual minorities. The class will be presented in two segments, October 31-December 19 (excluding November 21), and from January 23-March 6, The Fall class will examine the affirmative biblical case that supports a policy of inclusion of LGBTQ people. The January- March focus will be on the seven biblical Reaching Out, Celebrating and Living the Love of Christ in God s World.

7 clobbering passages that have been used as justification for the adoption of discriminatory and exclusionary policies. The class is sponsored by Epworth s FIRE* team (*Forever Inviting and Reconciling Everyone). The co-facilitators are Scott Strickler, Judy Moore, and Rev. Bob Paulen. The class is open to everyone regardless of membership in or attendance at Epworth. Flyers and a sign-up sheet are available at the Faith Development Table in the narthex. Questions? Contact Scott Strickler at scotthstrickler@gmail.com. Epworth UMC Financial Seminar Monday, November 14 th, at 5:30 in the Epworth Music Room The Epworth Planned Giving & Endowment Committee is sponsoring an educational session on subjects everybody needs to talk about: Estate planning and wills, the importance of an endowment fund, end of year tax planning and stock market investment advice. We simplify complicated subjects! We have lined up three knowledgeable speakers on these important topics. The speakers are attorney Cindy Szabo Esq., accountant Matt Dickens, CPA and Karen West, former VP at Vanguard Securities. Each will give a presentation on their specialties including how best to structure your will to avoid probate, how to minimize taxes and your best investment choices. Bring your appetite for pizza and thirst for knowledge. Question and answer period to follow. RSVP dennis.germain11@gmail.com Missions Sale Autumn is here. Shorter, cooler days... leaves that turn to crimson, yellow and orange... and hearty, aromatic soup simmering on the stove. Soup, you say? Members of the Missions Pathway will be selling an assortment of tasty homemade soups in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, October 30, from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. A variety of meat -based and vegetarian soups will be available for $8 per quart. Proceeds will go toward Missions projects. Celebrate this wonderful season with a quart (or two) of soup bursting with flavor and help the Missions Pathway carry out its important work of serving others! Immanuel Shelter Immanuel Shelter provides shelter for homeless adult men and women, offering protection for the harsh, sometimes lifethreatening winter elements. Children accompanied by one or both parents who are experiencing homelessness in the Sussex County area are sheltered in local hotels as Immanuel Shelter funds permit. Immanuel Shelter code purple services include offering shelter, food, clothing, basic human necessities, and friendly companionship. Compassionate, trained and skilled staff and volunteer services demonstrate a respect and dignity for all Immanuel homeless guests. It is only with the support and donations that the shelter can remain open to provide for as many as 40 persons a night. Many opportunities exist to provide help: financial donations, provide the evening meal for one night, volunteer to assist for one evening, etc. You may learn more and sign up at our table in the Narthex on Sunday mornings November 13 and 20.
