Today we light the pink candle in our Advent wreath and we run smack dab into John the Baptist! He is fired up and ready to tell us a thing or two that we may not expect to hear. In today s lesson, everyone responds to John s preaching by saying: What should we do? As we mark the days until Christmas, God beckons us to ask the same about our lives what should we do to live faithful lives and be ready for Christ s coming? Today we will hear John s good news and welcome new members to Epworth! We also will baptize a child of God reminding us all of the promises made in baptism and membership in Christ s holy church. FYI: Should you have a Pastoral Care Emergency on the weekend, our Care Line Phone Number is Safety Measures at Epworth From now on, all the doors leading into the church building will be locked on Sunday mornings, 15 minutes after worship begins. So, at 8:00, 9:30 & 11:30 a.m.. The outside entrance doors, both front and back, will be locked. If you should arrive after that time, please stand and knock and someone will let you in. This decision was made because of our desire to protect our church, our staff and those who come to worship on Sunday morning. You may also see our Safety Team patrolling the halls and lobby during worship again, other measures to keep us safe and able to worship God in peace. We appreciate your patience and support of these changes. Epworth Gift Card Sales If you have ordered Gift Cards for Christmas, the gift cards will be ready for pick-up today, 12/16 at the Gift Card table or in the church office from 12/17 21, 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Payment is due when the cards are ordered. All proceeds benefit our Christmas Joy365 program. Revolution Youth Group Update Revolution Youth have been busy with serving cocoa at Yule Love It and collecting for the Food Pantry. Please return all Reverse Advent boxes to Epworth by December 20. We are building a tree of them in the Narthex. We appreciate your support for this and other activities, including the Youth Rallin in Ocean City, MD, January 4-6. Keep us in your prayers as we prepare for this event! Reverse Advent Follow-up A big THANK YOU to everyone who is taking part in the Reverse Advent project sponsored by the Revolution youth group, benefiting the Epworth Food Pantry. There is another way folks can help with this important project. Volunteers are needed the last week of the month to help unpack, sort and re-pack the contents of the Reverse Advent cartons. This will take place in the Narthex on the afternoon of Thursday, December 27, starting at 1:30 p.m. and on the morning of Friday, December 28, starting at 9:00 a.m. If you are able to help (for any length of time), please sign up at the WINGS table on Sundays or call or text David Habelin at Many hands make light work, plus it s fun! 4 Like to Pray? Epworth s Pastoral Care Team needs Volunteers! Life is good here at Epworth Church! But what if you are sick, in the hospital, homebound, receiving hospice care; what happens to your spiritual life then? Who will pray with you and your loved ones, how will you receive communion? Your church family feels a commitment to each individual s spiritual and emotional well-being. Our Pastoral Care volunteers play an essential role in enriching the spiritual lives of members of our congregation when they are sick, homebound or unable to attend church, and in need of spiritual prayers and healing. You could make a difference in someone's day by providing prayerful companionship. Volunteers in this area have a strong interest in prayer, are very caring with heartfelt sincerity, have patience and are able to offer a respectful, sympathetic and comforting attitude with members of our church and their family members who are in need of prayerful companionship!
