Welcome to Advent at Epworth. This year we will read and study and experience together how God comes down at Christmas. Each week, we ll study one of the characters from the birth story of Jesus, using the book entitled, When God Comes Down, by James Harnish. Today s character is Joseph the man who God chose to be the father of Jesus. Joseph wrestled with doubt and confusion about his role in this story, yet ended up displaying obedient faith, when God called him to move in Interested in Becoming a Member of the Epworth Church Family? Our next Belongings Luncheon will be on a Sunday in either February or March at 12:30 p.m. in Scott s Chapel. Over a light meal you will have the opportunity to get to know our pastors in a small group setting. You will be welcomed into membership as a part of our worship services. In between the 9:15 & 11:15 services we will offer a tour of your new church and share some of the outreach our ministries do in the local community. We would love to have you join us! 5 Special Charge Conference to be held Epworth will hold a special Charge Conference at the opening of its Church Council meeting on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this Charge Conference will be to vote in the nominations for its new leadership structure and Governing Board. Rev. Dave Humphrey from Mariners-Bethel UMC will be leading this Charge Conference on behalf of our District Superintendent, Dr. Sa. All members of the church are welcome to attend. All Church Council members are allowed to vote. Revolution Youth Group News Just a reminder about our youth project, Reverse Advent, a collection of food for the Pantry. Add just one item for each day in Advent (up to 25 items in a box) and bring in to the church the week of December All donations will help replenish our Food Pantry this Winter for those in need. Help will be available on Sunday, December 18, to collect and add boxes to our box tree. Our youth group is preparing to attend the 2017 Youth Rally in Ocean City, January 6-8. This is an annual event sponsored by our Peninsula/Delaware Conference for youth to gather and learn and share faith in a supportive and fun environment. We have 11 students going this year and would appreciate some help to defray the cost of rooms and food. Our leaders, Mike Tyler, David Garrett and Stephanie Manos, would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Please consider sponsoring our youth as they grow their faith at the Rally! Music Department hosts Yule Love It an evening of music on Saturday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. During the first half of the concert the Epworth Chancel Choir, under the direction of Doug Yetter, will perform the Christmas Cantata by Joseph Martin, Ceremony of Candles. The second half of the evening s musical entertainment will be the Sussex Tech Women s Choir, the Rehoboth Concert Band joined by the CAMP Chorus Singers from CAMP Rehoboth and the Epworth Praise Team. The second part of the evening will also include a good ole fashion sing-along with your favorite Christmas carols. Please plan to join us and kick start your Christmas Season. Doug tells us that a little elf told him that a big man in red and white will be there, so bring your camera and grab a picture with him that is if the elf is correct. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served at intermission. Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door. You may purchase tickets at the church office or online at The Christmas Season is upon us! As you go about your busy schedule please remember we can help you with your shopping. Stop by the gift card table in the Narthex and special-order gift cards for those special folks on your list or purchase a great looking Epworth sweatshirt, hoodie or 1/4 zip for that someone special. Also available will be Epworth caps and polo shirts for the snowbirds heading to the warmer weather. We have you covered Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones from the Epworth Fundraising Committee. Fair Trade Baskets for Christmas Christmas baskets that feature only Fair Trade products are available for ordering at the Fair Trade table in Fellowship Hall TODAY. You can choose the products you wish to have included and the baskets will be ready for pick-up by next Sunday. Why Fair Trade products? Simpson Men's Group for our monthly meeting on December 10 at Sammy's Kitchen in downtown Rehoboth Beach at 7:30 a.m. This group is very active in the Church. In addition to our mission of raising and distributing funds for homeless concerns through our successful golf outings, we are called to service to help serve meals during Lenten suppers, various pancake meals, and almost any other job that can use our help. We will gladly welcome anyone who desires to contribute to our efforts and wants to associate themselves with a collection of fine men. Come and be a part of this fantastic, dedicated group. 6 Celebrates Two Year Anniversary We are a group of Epworth members who meet every other month to make small loans which help people around the world create opportunity for themselves, their families and their communities. In our two years, we have made 88 loans worth $4,400 in 35 countries to vetted and deserving individuals and groups. Our next meeting is Wednesday, December 14, 5:30 p.m. in Scott's Chapel. Campus Ministry Epworth s Campus Ministry program is seeking to update our list of Epworth college students as the school year begins. The goals of Campus Ministries are to let our students know they continue to be in our thoughts and prayers throughout the school year, and to send them a 'Care' package filled with goodies as they prepare for finals each semester.
