4 SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SESSIONS OF FAITH PREP Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is for students in first grade through middle school and includes Sacrament preparation, and Baptism for unbaptized children. Classes for students of all abilities are held on Sundays from 9:15am 10:45am at Visitation School. Please visit the Parish Website to complete an application on-line or download an application. For more information, please contact or phone/ text 703/ BAPTISM The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 4th Saturday of most months at 1pm in the church. Parishioners are invited to call the office to get an appointment for an interview and place in our Baptism class which is held on the Sunday before the baptism in our Parish Center and includes attendance at the 11am Mass. There will be a special pew in the church reserved for these newest members of the parish for the Mass. Please call 310/ with questions. CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY CONFIRMATION and Youth Ministry programs have started. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) may be just for you. RCIA is for someone who: Is interested in becoming Catholic. Was never baptized. Was baptized in another Christian denomination. Please bring a plastic baggie containing a razor, shaving cream, comb, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, hand lotion, chapstick, Kleenex, sunscreen and anything else you think a person needs on a daily basis. We thank you for your generosity to this and the Canned food drive. All your efforts are greatly appreciated. 5 FEBRUARY 24, 2019 SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PAGE 5 PASTOR NOTES (Letter put into the time capsule that is to be opened in fifty years) To all of my future brothers and sisters of the Church of the Visitation, It seems so strange to be writing a letter to you, a future (now present) generation whom I do not know, realizing that few of you will have known me except perhaps as a historical footnote in the life of the parish. If all goes according to plan, you will have opened this time capsule 50 years after it was entombed in our courtyard. Having seen the lightning changes that have happened in our world over my 65 years of life, I strain to imagine what your life must be like 50 years into the future. As it is impossible for me to imagine your future, allow me to tell you about your past. In 2019, Visitation is one, great, vibrant family. Our school and church are one parish. It is composed of families with deep roots going back three generations. The grandparents of school children that attend Visitation graduated from Visitation themselves. The school is near capacity, our masses are vibrant, the music is excellent. Even though we are a relatively small parish, we are blessed with many priests. With myself are Msgr. Charles Hill (retired but active), Fr. Timothy McGowan and Fr. James Anguiano, both in residence and both beloved by the parishioners. Fr. James O Grady, who served our parish for more than 40 years, lives now at an assisted living facility named Nazareth House, but is never far from the heart and life of the Parish. f there is one quality that distinguishes Visitation it is that of a welcoming spirit. As the airport is so close, we have many visitors on Sundays. We expect ourselves to greet all newcomers and help them feel a part of our community. And not just the outsiders! We try to extend openness and acceptance to all. I pray that what makes us be what we are still beats in your hearts. Our parish is fun! We have carnivals, and Food Truck Nights, and Mardi Gras dances, golf tournaments, and parish picnics where we just gather to enjoy. We love being with each other. God s spirit has been upon us. In just a few short years our religious education programs have more than tripled in size. We have Weekly bible studies, adult education, nights of meditation and prayer during Lent and Advent, retreats offered to our church minister s as well as yearly retreats offered to our women and men. The people are not just generous with time, but also with their treasure. We are currently in the second year of a three year financial campaign we call Renew Visitation. There had been so many years of deferred maintenance that we decided to gather enough funds to rebuild most of our parish. You can see in the time capsule some of the before and after pictures. Our people have been unbelievably generous; in less than two years, we have already collected $2.8 million dollars. I hope that what we are doing today will still be serving you, just as a previous generation that built our parish served us. I hope that Visitation Parish is still strong. I hope that your spirit is still a welcoming one. I hope that you are thriving. Above all, I hope that the spirit of our Lord still continues to draw you into the unity of the family that Visitation is for us. I await you in the Kingdom, Msgr. Jim Forsen, Pastor
