3 DECEMBER 30, 2018 CHURCH OF THE VISITATION PAGE THREE PASTOR NOTES God winks at us PARISH EVENTS On Sunday, Dec 9, at the 11:00 mass, we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was a wonderful celebration. A Mariachi band came and sang along with our children s choir. In the opening procession, many children came forward to present flowers to the Virgin. Some were clothed in colorful traditional Mexican dress. There was a re-enactment of the story of the apparition of our Lady in Mexico. The picture of Mary was beautifully adorned with flowers. After the mass, we all went outside for tamales, champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate) sweet breads and more The children had fun breaking open a piñata and scrambling for the candy. In the midst of all this, someone looked up and pointed at the church tower. We were all amazed to see this image. One person said, God is winking at us. Indeed. Throughout our lives there are moments, divinely inspired coincidences, when our God breaks into our world simply to say, I am here. Those moments are such a consolation to me, knowing that His eye is ever upon me, His providence ever guiding me. What can one do in such a moment, when God says Hello, other than to greet Him back with a Hello and perhaps a Thank you. In the remaining days of the Christmas season, let s take a moment to search out those times when God breaks into our lives. I do believe that if I were vigilant this very day, I would see Him everywhere. Constantly winking. Fr. 4 THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH SESSIONS OF FAITH PREP Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is for students in first grade through middle school and includes Sacrament preparation, and Baptism for unbaptized children. Classes for students of all abilities are held on Sundays from 9:15am 10:45am at Visitation School. Please visit the Parish Website to complete an application on-line or download an application. For more information, please contact or phone/ text 703/ BAPTISM The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 4th Saturday of most months at 1pm in the church. Parishioners are invited to call the office to get an appointment for an interview and place in our Baptism class which is held on the Sunday before the baptism in our Parish Center and includes attendance at the 11am Mass. There will be a special pew in the church reserved for these newest members of the parish. Call 310/ with questions. CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY CONFIRMATION and Youth Ministry programs have started. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) may be just for you. RCIA is for someone who: Is interested in becoming Catholic. Was never baptized. Was baptized in another Christian denomination. Was baptized Catholic, but never celebrated the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. Is interested in catching up on or renewing their faith. OneLife LA is an annual walk for life and event celebrating the beauty of every human life from conception to natural death. The Walk will be held on Saturday, January 19 from 12pm -2pm: Walk one mile from La Placita/ Olvera Street to LA State Historic Park 2-4pm: Speakers, live music, food trucks, works of mercy and 5pm Requiem Mass for the Unborn at the Cathedral of Our Lady Queen of Angels.
