He said to the Lord, If you can do anything, have compassion on him and cure him. The Lord replied, If you can? Everything is possible for one who believes. The man replied, I do believe. But help me over come my disbelief! - Mark 9: I am that man. On December 9, we announced the remarkable challenge of an anonymous donor: A matching fund offer of $100,000. We had one month -less, really - to try to raise that same sum. I have to confess that I doubted that it was possible. I thought, Maybe $30,000. Maybe $40,000. But $100,000? I feared that sum was out of our reach. When we collected $33,000 within the first week, as happy as I was, I thought, Well, that s probably our first and last best shot. Then, when we passed $50,000 in less than two weeks, I figured that was about as fur as we could go. You can see why I am that worried father from the gospel. I constantly prayed, Lord, if you can... As of this writing, we have collected over $135,000! In less than one month!! I cannot find the words to tell you how grateful I am to all of you. Your immense generosity has overwhelmed me and I am so thankful to all of you. You did far more than unlock the matching fund offer. You taught me a valuable lesson in what it means to put your faith in God. And for that too, I thank all of you. As I have said to you before, I consider myself the luckiest pastor in the archdiocese to have been given the privilege of being here at Visitation with such generous and dedicated people who love their parish such as yourselves. I know my New Year s Day will be a happy one. I pray that yours will be too. Happy New Year! Fr. 4 THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD SESSIONS OF FAITH PREP Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is for students in first grade through middle school and includes Sacrament preparation, and Baptism for unbaptized children. Classes for students of all abilities are held on Sundays from 9:15am 10:45am at Visitation School. Please visit the Parish Website to complete an application on-line or download an application. For more information, please contact or phone/ text 703/ BAPTISM The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 4th Saturday of most months at 1pm in the church. Parishioners are invited to call the office to get an appointment for an interview and place in our Baptism class which is held on the Sunday before the baptism in our Parish Center and includes attendance at the 11am Mass. There will be a special pew in the church reserved for these newest members of the parish. Call 310/ with questions. CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY CONFIRMATION and Youth Ministry programs have started. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) may be just for you. RCIA is for someone who: Is interested in becoming Catholic. Was never baptized. Was baptized in another Christian denomination. OneLife LA is an annual walk for life and event celebrating the beauty of every human life from conception to natural death. The Walk will be held on Saturday, January 19 from 12pm -2pm: Walk one mile from La Placita/ Olvera Street to LA State Historic Park 2-4pm: Speakers, live music, food trucks, works of mercy and 5pm Requiem Mass for the Unborn at the Cathedral of Our Lady Queen of Angels.
