As construction begins this week, weekday masses will be held in the O Sullivan Hall at the regularly scheduled time of 8 o clock.

For those who wish to have a loved one, your family or an event commemorated, we are selling brick pavers which will be installed in the new courtyard.

On the weekend of October 19-21, we will once again be having our every-other-year-carnival with rides, games, food booths, (Goldfish, too!). Mark your calendars and join the parish.

There are so many things that are happening these days around Visitation that it is hard to keep up. So here are the headlines. PARISH EVENTS Fr. O Grady. As was announced on Sunday at mass, due to a fall that Father had two weeks ago, and his need for more medical attention than the parish could provide, he is currently recuperating at Nazareth House, a medical/retirement facility for priests. We hope that he will regain his health and return to us. Please keep him in your prayers. Weekday Masses. As construction begins this week, weekday masses will be held in the O Sullivan Hall at the regularly scheduled time of 8 o clock. School assembly is at 7:50am, close to the beginning of mass, so please be open to some personal adjustments. Pavers. For those who wish to have a loved one, your family or an event commemorated, we are selling brick pavers which will be installed in the new courtyard. The Parish website has registration forms and information. The Parish Carnival. It s coming soon! On the weekend of October 19-21, we will once again be having our every-other-year-carnival with rides, games, food booths, (Goldfish, too!). Mark your calendars and join the parish. Buy your ride tickets and food tickets early at a discount. Blessing of the Animals. We are renewing an old tradition of Visitation Parish of the blessing any animals or pets you might have. It will be on Sunday, October 7, after the 11am Mass. (The feast of St. Francis of Assisi is October 4), so we chose the Sunday closest to this patron saint of all animals to honor him and bless our pets. Classes for students of all abilities are held on Sundays from 9:15am 10:45am at Visitation School. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. Parishioners are invited to call the office to get an appointment for an interview and place in our Baptism class which is held on the Sunday before the baptism in our Parish Center and includes attendance at the 11am Mass. There will be a special pew in the church reserved for these newest members of the parish. Call 310/ with questions. We invite everyone to get their children baptized. CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY CONFIRMATION and Youth Ministry programs have started. American Heritage Girls is a scouting organization for girls ages The Westchester AHG troop is sponsored by the local Knights of Columbus council and includes families from Visitation. 5 OCTOBER 7, 2018 PAGE FIVE THE UPCOMING SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. As we have discussed over the last month, construction was scheduled to begin October 1. This is a very exciting time of growth for our parish community, and by its conclusion will have a much more secure and beautiful parish and school. The construction will involve temporary fencing which will be installed in stages, beginning with the area involving the church, Parish Center and play structure, and, after the Carnival, the fences along Liberator and Emerson. CONCERNING THE CHURCH BUILDING 1) Starting soon, weekday masses will be held in O Sullivan Hall. Access to the hall for weekday mass will be through the Hall s main doors on 86 th Place, or through the gate on Liberator, or through the church parking lot / playground. Do not park in the church parking lot for weekday masses as the gates may be locked before the end of mass. It is best to park on Emerson, 86 th Place, or Liberator, or on any of the side streets. It is best to exit through the hall s main doors at the end of mass. 2) The church will be open on the weekends. Access to the parking lot will continue to be through the Emerson gate and as well as the Liberator gates. 3) There will be temporary signs in place near the north entrance of the church, indicating handicapped parking. 4) Sunday masses will be conducted in the church, however, access to the church will be through the side door on 88 th street or through the north doors in the parking lot. There will be a secure ramp for entrance through the north doors as well as wheelchair access. There will be no access through the Emerson doors. 5) Arrangements for weddings, funerals or other uses of the church throughout construction will be handled on a case by case basis. CONCERNING SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK UP 1) The school drop off and pick up will not change. The gates entrances on Liberator for drop off or pick up will be open at the appropriate times, as will be the gate on Emerson. There will be parking for cars in the parking lot during the morning drop off and afternoon pickup, however the spaces will be limited due to construction. Please give yourself extra time in the morning so the children can be dropped off safely. CONCERNING USE OF THE PARISH CENTER 1) The Parish Center will remain open for parish use throughout construction, however the front doors will be closed due to construction. Access to the Parish Center will be through the back doors and back staircase. An illuminated walkway will be along the backside of the play structure. CONCERNING THE PLAYSTRUCTURE 1) The play structure will remain open for use. Physical and visual access will be on the north corner. CONCERNING THE JUNIOR HIGH PLAYGROUND AREA 1) No construction is planned for that area at this time, as the Junior High is to be included in a future project. Morning assembly will continue as usual. If there are any questions or uncertainties, please contact Fr. Jim Forsen, the pastor or, Mr. Christopher Watson, the principal. We realize that this will cause some inconvenience for many of us, but it will be only for a short time and we ask you for your patient understanding. Let us also be respectful and kind to all of our surrounding neighbors during this period. Our God has been good to us to bring us to this point. Please continue to pray for the success of Renew visitation.
