3 APRIL 1, 2018 CHURCH OF THE VISITATION PAGE THREE PASTOR NOTES - HOLY WEEK AND EASTER The celebration of Holy Week is central to the entire Liturgical Year. We celebrate our central belief in the Resurrection. At the heart and center of our faith is the belief that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became man to show God s Love for us; to show us the way to His Father and to show us a way of life. Sin can blind us to the truth. Christ s life, death and resurrection show us the true path. On Palm Sunday, we recognize who Christ was, with the procession of palms, and we echo the disciple s chant: Hosanna to the Son of David! And yet, a few moments later, with the crowd outside the palace of Pilate, cry out, Give us Barabbas. On Holy Thursday, the beginning of the Triduum, we celebrate the establishment of the Eucharist and Priesthood, which is central to the spiritual life of the Church. Good Friday commemorates our Lord s Passion, His choice to die for us, rather than condemn us. Holy Saturday celebrates the Sacrament of Baptism, a reminder that our faith begins with death to our old way of life and a resurrection to the new life that Jesus has won for us. On behalf of the parish staff and myself, we pray that this Holy Week and Easter will be one of spiritual growth for all of you. May this Easter bring you true joy and new life. Msgr. EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD SESSIONS OF FAITH Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is for students in first grade through middle school and includes Sacrament preparation, and

4 EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD SESSIONS OF FAITH Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is for students in first grade through middle school and includes Sacrament preparation, and Baptism for unbaptized children. Classes are held on Sundays from 9:15 am 10:45 am. For more information, please contact Father Tim McGowan at 310/ or Debra Evans at BAPTISM The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 4th Saturday of every month at 1pm in the church. Parishioners are invited to call the office to get an appointment for an interview and place in our Baptism class which is held on the 3rd Sunday of every month in our Parish Center after attendance at the 11am Mass. There will be a special pew in the church reserved for these newest members of the parish. Call 310/ with questions. This is an important step in your relationship with your parish. RCIA OUR RCIA GROUP will continue next fall to meet on Mondays from 7-9pm. Call 310/ , if you are interested in joining to catch up on your faith, receive a sacrament you may have missed, or just want to have your faith renewed. You may sign up with the office for our fall sessions. All are welcome. The Confirmation and Youth Ministry programs are currently in progress. COMMUNITY INFORMATION MEN S CORNERSTONE RETREAT Visitation Church s Annual Men s Cornerstone Retreat will be Fri. April 27 th 6pm to Saturday evening April 28 th here on our parish campus. It is presented BY the men or our parish who have experienced it, FOR the men of our parish. If you speak to a Cornerstone Brother, he'll tell you the experience has enhanced his life in many ways he is a better husband and father to his family, he is a better friend, he is more grounded in his work, and, most importantly, he has discovered new dimensions in his relationship with God. WOMENS CORNERSTONE RETREAT Registration continues for Visitation's First Annual Cornerstone Retreat for women commencing Friday April 20th at 6pm and concluding on Saturday April 21st at 8pm. The Visitation Retreat team is very excited to share this unique 26 hour experience with you. Adult women from their 20's through retirement years are encouraged to join in the fellowship, to relax, reflect, renew, and deepen their faith and relationship with God and others. Separated & Divorced Ministry Leadership Training The Office of Family Life is proud to sponsor a free, one day Separated and Divorced Support Group Leadership Training. This training is for parish leaders who want to learn how to start a new support group and for facilitators, as well as, current S/D Ministry Leaders who want to refresh their skills. The training includes: 1) Current trends and special needs of today s divorce community; 2) Tools to support families in transition; 3) An introduction to current Catholic S/D Support Group Programs; as well as, easy to use resources.
