We hear estimates of almost 50 million innocent victims, but that s only one aspect of the harm that has unfolded in abortion s wake. The music throughout the Easter Triduum was spectacular thanks to Lloyd Thompkins and our dedicated choir as well as the Folk Group who provided lively, inspirational music for our Folk Mass. Thank you to our Lectors, our Extraordinary Ministers, our Ushers and our wonderful Altar Severs. Thank You to John and Lynn Evers and Ellen Capellan for decorating around the Repository not just in St. Clares s but also in St. Francis Xavier. Thank You to the Boys Scouts for their help with the beginning of the Easter Vigil Mass. A special Thank You to Father Reiman for the beautiful services on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, and all the time he has given to our Parish. Thank you to all the Rectory staff for their professionalism and dedication to our Parish. Last but not least, Thank You, the Parishioners of St. Clare s for your unyielding faith, devotion and generosity to our Beloved St. Clare of Assisi Parish. +May God continue to Bless you+ BIBLICAL INSPIRATION Biblical Inspiration is the doctrine in Christian theology that the writers and editors of the Bible were so influenced by God that these writings are the Word of God. The Canon of Sacred Scripture is composed of 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. The Christian doctrines of Inspiration and Inerrancy are key in understanding the Sacred Scriptures. Inspiration means that God is the sole author of the Bible. Inerrancy means that since God is the author of the Scriptures it cannot be in error since God is the author of truth. Since the Bible is written human language we need to understand that the words of the Bible are true only in the sense in which the human writers conveyed them. We need to understand the historical, literary and cultural context in which the writers composed them. The human writer was not necessarily infallible. Inerrancy means that the writers convictions or opinions expressed in common literary devices such as: poetry, figures of speech, paradox, historical or geographical approximations, compressed narratives or editorials, inexact quotations, folklore, legend, myths or song didn t affect the message which is God s Word. The Books of Scripture must be acknowledged as teaching firmly, faithfully and without error the truth which God wanted put in the Sacred Writings for the sake of our salvation (Vatican II, Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, n.11). The criterion for Sacred Scripture is Tradition in the sense of the whole process by which the Church hands on its faith to each new generation. This transmission occurs through the medium of preaching, catechesis, teaching, devotions, gestures (e.g. sign of the cross), doctrines, and indeed the Bible itself. Tradition in this wider sense includes but is not confined to time bound traditions such as disciplines or rules regulating Church order, ritual, or pious practices. Tradition in the wider sense comes before, during and not just after the writing of Sacred Scripture. A careful study of Scripture discloses several layers of tradition from which the individual books have taken final form. Those traditions may be oral (preaching), liturgical (prayer of formulae), narrative (recollection of important events) and sayings. Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition are not seen as two separate sources of Divine Revelation but since Vatican II seen as a single divine revelation expressed and available in different forms. Scripture is no longer seen as a product of Scared Tradition but intertwined with Tradition as revelation of God s truth. It is clear that sacred tradition and sacred Scripture and the teaching authority of the Church, in accord with God s most wise design, are so linked and joined together and each in its own way under the action of the Holy Spirit contribute effectively to the salvation of souls (Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation n. 10) Louis A. As I had said, there are currently 7 weekend masses at St. Clare s and 5 at St. Francis Xavier too many for a minimal staff of priests to handle. After meeting with the Parish Councils of both parishes, and after listening to many suggestions from parishioners, I have decided that the best way to proceed is to go from 12 Masses to 9, eliminating two from St. Clare s and one from SFX. If the 8 am and 10 am Masses are eliminated here, and the 11:30 Mass at SFX, it would allow the two parish priests, Fr. Reiman and myself, to celebrate more masses with less outside assistance. This will make it possible for us to be closer to the people of both parishes and to be as present to all of you as possible. In order to have a true parish family there is no substitute for having your own priests at Mass, I believe. In addition, there would never be two masses occurring at one time, so in case of an emergency, neither of us would ever have to be in two places at once. I know this involves cutting out the weekly Italian Mass, which was very special to some people. Going forward, the Italian Mass will be offered once a month. I promise you that this was not an easy decision for me. I prayed many hours and asked the advice of many parishioners. In the end, I have to make a decision in terms of what I believe to be the best thing for St. Clare s in the long term. It is never my intention to offend or hurt anyone at my beloved parish of St. Clare s, but I believe in my heart that now is the time to do this. Please take a close look at the schedule below. The changes would occur on Memorial Day weekend (May 26-27) of this year, giving us almost two months to prepare. I prayerfully ask for your support in this transition. The First Letter of Saint John Chap 2 Verses 1-5a The way we may be sure to know Jesus is to keep his commandments.
