STEWARDSHIP APPEAL UPDATE As of May 25th, 174 individuals and families have pledged $30, for our poor, for our needy Parishes, for our Retired Priest, Sisters and Brothers. Please read over our weekly inserts and learn more about the value of making Lenten Pledge. Brochures and Offering Envelopes are on the table by the Church Entrance. SAINT ANTHONY MASS AND PROCESSION Please join us on Sunday, June 10th at the 1:00pm Mass, followed by a Procession with the Statue of St. Anthony through the streets of the Parish. The San Silverio Committee, is so gracious in facilitating the Procession. We welcome individuals and families to march with the Statue of St. Anthony. The Cardinal s delegate for parish planning will explain the proposed merger and answer any questions you may have. All are invited to attend and ask questions. We look forward to seeing you there. DOMINICAN COLLEGE INFO SESSION Wednesday, June 6, :30pm-7:30pm Prusmack Center 3 Campus Drive, Blauvelt, NY An information session for those interested in Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees. This event will provide an opportunity to learn about the programs offered and to meet the faculty and admission counselors. To learn more, visit dc.edu/adult-programs Or adult.programs@dc.edu HISTORY OF CORPUS CHRISTI In some ways every Sunday is a feast of the Eucharist, because by participating in the Mass, and in receiving Communion, we are honoring and celebrating the Eucharist. Nonetheless, a desire to specifically celebrate the Eucharist developed. In AD 1264 Pope Urban IV commanded universal the observance of the Feast of Corpus Christi. Nonetheless, Urban's death impeded the spread of the feast. However, by the 14th century, the feast became universally celebrated in the West. The Feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated throughout the Catholic Church. Although the feast is not officially observed in most Protestant churches, some Anglican churches, especially Anglo-Catholics, observe the feast.

Pope Urban IV, to commemorate a Eucharistic miracle in Bolsena, Italy, instituted the feast in the year The miracle was this: a priest who is known only as Fr. Peter of Prague, was celebrating Mass when, at the words of consecration, blood flowed out of the host. It was during this time period that theologians, for the first time in Church history, began to introduce doubts about the Body and Blood of Christ being present in the consecrated bread and wine. Eight centuries later those theologians have been forgotten-the Mass is still being celebrated every day all over the world. People still doubt, of course. But faith in the Eucharist remains very strong among Catholics, and always will be. Since the first time Mass was celebrated at the Last Supper until now, Jesus has drawn people closer to him through faith-faith that He is always present to them in the Eucharist. And he wants those who understand this to pray for the many people who have separated themselves from him. Pope Saint Pius X once said that, Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to heaven. At Mass this weekend please pray for the thousands and thousands of Catholics who are away from the fold. Jesus wants them back and our prayers will help to open their minds and hearts to the truth, love and hope of Christ. Chap 9 Verses Christ is the mediator of a new covenant. Gospel of Mark Chap 14, Verses 12-16, This is my body. This is my blood of the covenant.
