CARDINAL S APPEAL UPDATE As of April 4th, we have reached 56% of our goal: $32, Our goal is $58, Overall participation is 3% of our 4,000 registered Parishioners. SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND After the fall of Communism in Central and Eastern Europe in the 1980 s, Catholics-who suffered years of persecution from atheistic governments-have emerged. The task of building Churches and Schools, the training of men for the Priesthood, the formation of women for Religious Life and the instruction of the laity, is vital. 3 THE PSALMS ISREAL S ANCIENT TREASURE AND THE CHURCH S SONG OF PRAISE This 8 week course in Scriptural studies is being offered to understand the historical, political and social context which gave birth to the writings of the Psalms in the Old Testament. The seminar will examine how the Psalms were formulated as songs of Faith derived from the experience of the people of Israel. This Faith journey concludes with a look at how we can appreciate the value and make use of the Psalms today in Christian Prayer. Classes are usually after school on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 3:30pm - 5:00pm. (The class day depends on the grade level). There is a possibility that Confirmation year I (grade 6 & above) may be moved to another time depending on availability of the teacher. Classes are offered for students entering Grades 1 through Grade 7. Please phone Sr. Linda at for a Registration Form or pick one up at the Rectory. Catechists (teachers) & assistants are needed for all grades. Please contact Sister if you are interested. Our Religious Education Program needs the cooperation and support of the Parish in order to continue to offer classes to the children. HOLY WATER Water blessed at the April 15th Easter Vigil is available for you to take home. Bring a receptacle and take the Holy Water in the Silver Metal Container in the Baptistery. Vincent Taglienti Deacon Joseph Weckbach OUR SCRIPTURE READINGS AT MASS THIS WEEKEND Acts of the apostles Chap 2, Verses Notice the quality that characterized the first Christians: all who believed were together. First Letter of Saint Peter Chap 1, Verses 3-9 God the Father has given us a new hope in Christ Jesus Gospel of John Chap 20, Verses St. Thomas meets the Risen Lord and has his doubt taken away Dearly beloved Parishioners, Continued Easter greetings to you and your families today, the Second Sunday of Easter. This Sunday is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. It was 17 years ago that St. John Paul II established this Feast, based on the visions of Our Lord given to St. Faustina Kowalska in In His apparitions to this Polish Sister, Jesus spoke of Himself as wishing to open His Heart to those who have strayed from God and showering upon them the very depths of My Tender Mercy. In 2000, St. John Paul II wrote the following: Jesus said to St. Faustina Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to Divine Mercy...this is the Easter Gift that the Church receives from the Risen Christ and offers to Humanity. We display by the Tabernacle in the Sanctuary an image of Jesus as the Divine Mercy. Please take the opportunity to visit the portrait. Our Lord is wearing a white garment with red and pale rays emanating from His Heart, symbols of the Love that He wishes to bestow upon us. All He asks is that we open our lives to Him and say, Jesus, I trust in You. Perhaps there are those among us who have never mentioned in Confession a serious sin. Now is our opportunity to do so. We each know of a family member who rarely, if ever, attends Mass and may be involved in a sinful relationship or burdened by a spiritually unhealthy lifestyle. Do gently share with them the message of this Sunday. Take home a Prayer Card by the image of Christ, the Divine Mercy and maybe take an extra Prayer Card and give it to someone who has strayed from the Sacraments. Remind yourself and share with someone the theme of today: turn to Jesus and trust in His Merciful Forgiveness. Christ is waiting for us. All that we need to do is speak to Him with honesty and humility! Faithfully in the Mercy of god,
