Thank you for your sacrificial offerings of gratitude!, BENEFITS OF ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Spending time before the Blessed Sacrament regularly will bring you closer to God. Our Church is open for prayer on Saturdays and you are welcome to stop in to spend some quiet reflective time with our Lord. From the Eucharist comes strength to live the Christian life and zeal to share that life with others. This is the wonderful truth, my dear friends: the Word, which became flesh two thousand years ago, is present today in the Eucharist. - St. Pope John Paul II AIR CONDITIONING UPDATE At the time of the printing of this bulletin, the work on the air conditioning has been moving along. As you will probably see, there is evidence of construction of the new air ducts in the back of the Church. Electrical updates are taking place as well, to ensure the safe operation of the new units. Thank you for your patience and it won t be long before the work is complete and we are cooled off. RELIGION CLASSES FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS Registration for September 2018 is continuing. Classes are usually after school on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00pm. (The class day depends on the grade level). Classes are offered for students entering grade 1 through grade 7. Please pick up a registration form at the Rectory. Catechists (teachers) & assistants are needed for grade 5 and other grades. Please contact sister if you are interested (You can leave a message by dialing her number found on the front of the bulletin). Our Religious Education Program needs the cooperation and support of the Parish in order to continue to offer classes to the children. DiFalco Room) Sun, June 24, Second Collection for Parish Loan Reduction 2:15pm Baptisms (Church) A REMINDER THAT IN CHURCH Out of respect for God s house and the Blessed Sacrament, and in order to keep the one hour Eucharistic fast required before receiving Holy Communion, we should not chew gum or eat anything in Church. Thanks for observing this detail of Catholic life. Let s also keep a respectful silence in Church before and after Mass, and speak only if truly necessary, and in a low tone of voice. PARISH REGISTRATION Often we get requests to sign sponsor certificates for people who have been invited to be a godparent or a Confirmation Sponsor. This certificate states that the person requesting it is a member in good standing in the parish. In part that means they are living in accord with our Catholic values. For the parish to comply, the person asking to be a sponsor must be a registered member of our parish and one who worships here with us on a regular basis. Otherwise, we cannot sign such a certificate. If they are an adult child and do not attend, or have moved outside the parish, we can t certify that they are members. They need to go get that certification in whatever local parish they are currently living. If you would like to become a fully registered member, please take a yellow registration form from the vestibule of the church and either give it to the priest after Mass or drop it off at the Rectory. You may also obtain a form at the Rectory. Remember the Archdiocese of New York or Saint Clare of Assisi Parish in your will. Vincent Taglienti Deacon Joseph Weckbach OUR SCRIPTURE READING AT MASS THIS WEEKEND The Book of THE Prophet Ezekiel Chap 17 Verses I have lifted high the lowly tree. Dear Brothers and Sisters, It s true in life that sometimes we don t appreciate what we have until it s gone. That s especially true of people. Growing up, I can t say that my family made a big deal out of Father s Day. We never went out for dinner or gave flowers, like we did for mom on Mother s Day. Part of this was because my father didn t like being the center of attention, and also because he never knew his own father. Now that he s gone, I regret not making that day really special for him because he deserved the attention, as all fathers do on this day. In fact, now more than ever, our world needs strong families led by strong fathers. The statistics back this up. Let me share some with you: 71% of high school dropouts come from families without fathers (9 times the average). 85% of youths in prison are from fatherless homes (20 times the average). 63% of suicides among youths are from homes without a father (5 times the average). There are many more stats like this I could share with you, but the point is that a young man or woman needs their dad. I have no children of my own, of course, but I see so many wonderful examples of fatherhood in our parish, which is a major reason why our kids are so good. I don t believe good fathers are given enough credit for the sacrifices they make for their families, and it s time we did so. In fact, when was the last time you saw a father figure portrayed in a strong, realistic and positive light on television or in the movies? Hardly ever! Usually Hollywood and the television networks portray fathers as weak and unmanly at best, or at worst as unimportant or even unnecessary. This is nonsense, and I d say it s even diabolical. Satan loves to attack the family unit. What better way to get to our children than by attacking fathers and fatherhood. We need good fathers, and we need to recognize and celebrate their incredible sacrifices. A good father is a hero. There s one more statistic that is near to my heart. Children that have fathers who attend Mass regularly are 70% more likely to make it a lifelong habit themselves. The devil hates that statistic, and I m sure he wants as many fathers to stay away from Mass as possible. On this Fathers Day of 2018, let s celebrate our dads for the great men that they are. May God bless you always for protecting and defending your families the families that God has entrusted to your care. And may St. Joseph guide you in your mission to be great fathers. God bless you!
