It's Time For A Clown Round-Up! It turns out they were right. They said it was impossible to herd kittens. I am here to say it's true. So, I've decided to round-up clowns instead. That's right. If you are interested in Clowning for Chrysalis, it's time to act. We will be putting together the clowns that will serve for the summer flights very soon and are looking for new noses to bump and new shoes to inflate. This is an opportunity to express God's love in a very powerful way. It's also a lot of fun at times. Now, if you have an idea to get involved, please contact me. We are hoping to have a clown alley at the next Rush (prior to Candlelight at the Men's Walk) or another convenient location. Anyone interested in volunteering for these important kitchen tasks, please give me a call or text message at or drublee@rochester.rr.com. OUT OF CONFERENCE ROOM TEAM Please contact either Jim or Donna Coleman at: jcoleman10@rochester.rr.com nanacoleman@rochester.rr.com SONGBOOK ALERT! Some of our songbooks have become stowaways! Please check your bags from your walk to see if any songbooks have hidden in among your agape, talk notes and letters. On each walk the conference room lends out songbooks to all the participants. Over the last few years, books have been stowing away a few at a time. So many are missing that there will not be enough when we have a full walk! The book police are knocking at our door, asking us where they are. HELP! If you find any songbooks, please give them to any board member, who will return them to us. Thanks so much. DeColores! Char & Jeff Smith Supplies Chairmen The Men s Walk #48 team walk is about two weeks away. The Women s team is almost complete. We need to pray for the teams as they prepare for the new Pilgrims. Who will you be sponsoring to go on this set of walks? Start working on agape for the walk. For those who supply agape for the walk please identify what individual or gathering supplies it. This will make it easier to return extras. Again, pray for the teams as they prepare to lead their pilgrims on their three day journey. Pray without ceasing! 72 Hour Prayer Vigil The prayer vigil is on line. There is still over 50% of the time slots open. Now is the time to commit to praying during the walks. RNPRESTON@HOTMAIL.COM OR De Colores Rich and Nancy Preston, Agape Chairs Face to Face A Ministry for Older Adults I d like to share with you a new ministry for people age 60 and older called Face to Face. It is an opportunity based on the Emmaus Tradition to meet the needs of older adults. The program invites older men and women to experience Jesus through an 8-session journey, covering subjects such as discipleship, mission, grief and end of life issues. A flexible schedule allows participants the freedom to engage in structured Bible study and prayer. Led by clergy and lay leaders, Face to Face is intended to strengthen and renew followers of Christ, while also increasing the spiritual life of people wherever they are. Face to Face is open to members of any Christian denomination who want to strengthen their spiritual lives, discover answers to questions about faith and understand the responsibility of living a Christian lifestyle. Our Board of Directors has affirmed a desire to consider beginning a Face to Face ministry here in Western New York. I ask you to pray about this opportunity and visit the Upper Room website to learn more. Please go to: Facetoface.upperroom.org If you want to join in this exploration for ministry in our area, please contact Pastor Vonnie Vredenburg at vonvred@gmail.com or at Peace in Christ, Jim Moody 3

4 I can see the beauty of the snow sparkling in the rare moment when the sun is actually out. I have reminisced about when I was a kid, all bundled up and just laying face up in the snow and the feel of the giant snowflakes falling on my bare face, tickling me; not a sound to be heard and not a care in the world. I am also exhausted from trying to keep a path shoveled to my front door, with muscles screaming at me to stop. I have prayed a lot this winter about the snow, thanking God for it, but asking Him to make it stop. I find that now that I am living alone, I pray a lot more; sometimes I even find myself praying out loud. It kind of freaked me out the first couple of times, like - am I that old crazy lady talking out loud to myself?! But now I recognize that prayer, whether silently spoken in my head or verbally offered up, has always been a comfort to me; it gives me courage and strength. It also calms me down and helps me remember that there are people besides myself that need prayer. When I can't sleep at night, I pray to God and ask Him who it is I should be praying for. He always places a name in my head and so I pray until He gives me another name or I drift back to sleep. I look at the times when God places someone in my head and heart to pray for as incredible opportunities to be used by God. I am honored that He trusts me to work for Him to affect someone's life in a positive way. This is why I am so honored to be heading up the Emmaus Prayer Chain. So many people have big and little reasons for needing prayer - happy, sad, scary, hopeful, wishful, and on and on are the emotions associated with why we may need prayer. Being on the receiving end of prayer, I know prayer works because I have felt people praying for me and been strengthened by them. Would you like to be a link on our prayer chain? Would you like to receive an list of people in our Emmaus community that need prayer for themselves or request prayer for others? It is easy to become a link. Send me an at ngrierson@brightonfd.org and I will add you to the list. I do not share your with anyone and it is only used to send you the prayer list. If you would like to place a prayer request on the list, you may do so by sending an or by calling me on the phone (if I don't answer, please leave a message) home or cell. Team Selection Update This article is an update to the great Team Selection Uncovered! article that Rose Caldwell wrote in October 2013 Rainbow Connection issue. To review the article, go to the Emmaus/Chrysalis website at select the Rainbow Connection tab and choose the October 2013 edition. The article is located on page 9. We continue to encourage you to serve Emmaus in many ways. This includes participating in your local reunion groups, helping during the teamings by serving meals or during the walks in many capacities that includes helping in the kitchen or assisting the conference room support team that helps during the weekends! You can help make agape, participate in the prayer vigil or writing letters of encouragement. Another blessing is being chosen to serve on a team. Rose did an excellent job with describing the team selection process that starts with and continues with prayer. During this process with the Lay Director and Spiritual Director, at least 69 names are selected for the 23 slots that need to be filled. And recently additional names are needed by these directors for a team to be completed. If you would like to have additional information about being on team, bring this up during one of your gatherings or talk to your gathering leader. If you have a desire to serve on team, your gathering leader will forward your name to team selection. For 2015, the team selection members include Bill Barber, Lynn Blakeman, Gary Caldwell, Gary Clarcq, Carol Goodwin, Jim Keiper, John Trowbridge, Nancy Vrendenberg and Norb Fuest. If you have a question, contact any of these members or myself. Continue to pray for the Lay Directors, Spiritual Directors, team members and pilgrims for the up-coming walks and for the Chrysalis Lay and Spiritual Directors as their teams are formed. To God be the Glory! Norb Fuest, 2015 Team Selection Chair Chrysalis Updates Hi everyone just wanted to let you know we have been busy on the Chrysalis Board. We have selected lay directors and spiritual directors for both flights this summer. We will be announcing them and praying over them at the Men s Closing in Clarence. We have gone to team selection and the teams are being assembled as we speak so we covet your prayers as these directors reach out for GOD s team members. I am delighted to announce that we have filled the vacancies on the board for this year. Please see our new roster in this newsletter. I would like to share with all of you my vision for Chrysalis this year. First and foremost I believe we need to actively seek God s wisdom for our direction as we move through the year. Secondly we need to build on our base of butterflies and follow up the openings for outreach that have been given us one being strengthening our alliance with the District Youth. Thirdly, we need to seek to enmesh ourselves with Emmaus more closely and Emmaus with us. We will be returning to Camp Asbury this year for our flights and are very excited about that. Its not too soon to pray about which youth you might sponsor. We in Chrysalis are praying about who we can sponsor for Emmaus and Chrysalis. Fly with Christ and DeColores, Cherie Lay Director 4

5 CHRYSALIS Board of Directors A Vision for the Future At our January Board of Directors meeting, Pastor Rick Koch encouraged members to ponder how our Western New York Emmaus Community should grow. In essence, he challenged each of us to create a personal vision. And so, after prayer I have answer the questions below. I encourage you to do the same and share your answers with an individual on your Board of Directors. What does my involvement with Emmaus mean to me? The time I devote to sharing the love of Jesus with my friends in the Emmaus Community is extremely important. It helps me to realize how valuable personal relationships are and it helps me to see the Holy Spirit at work! I feel quite energized and happy to spend time with all of you. How does participation help me to grow as a person? Each moment spent devoting my time, whether it be through prayer, attending an activity or discussing needs of the community is time well spent. I feel like I make a difference. I enjoy traveling to different areas re-connecting with people I have grown to love and care for. I particularly grow as I experience the Holy Spirit through the face of others. What do I personally want to invest my time, my talents and my gifts? I want to invest time in prayer for our community, for people who are hurting and for God s direction. I also want to help facilitate the active involvement of our Board and other events. Thankfully, because I live quite a distance from some areas of our community, many activities can be done through and phone conversations. I want to be transparent to all of you, sharing what I feel and who I am all the time. Most of all, I want to share my love of Jesus. What is my vision for our Community? My vision is that every member of this community, past and present, look to God for ALL answers, ALL the time. Without our reliance on God on each other, we will not grow. I want us to grow. I want more people to experience a Walk, both as pilgrims and team members. I want to see more people attend events throughout the year. I want to see more people help our community when there is a need. I want to see our community be passionate about whatever activity is in front of us.
