One way to respond is by contributing to The Gift, this is a fundraising initiative led by the International Emmaus Office of The Upper Room. The Gift ensures that Christians throughout the world can enjoy the fruits of these transformative experiences. The Gift assists emerging communities with start-up needs such as leadership training, program resources, and much more. In April 2014, 15 pilgrims from Chili & Peru experienced a walk in Mexico, with hopes of launching communities in their home countries. In some Latin American countries they cannot afford a wooden or pewter cross. So they use 2 sticks and a strip of a leaf to tie it together. The Gift is supporting new communities emerging in Belize, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chili, DR Congo, Peru, the Philippines & Poland. Last year WNY Walk to Emmaus, as a Community donated over $700 towards The Gift. This year during Candlelight of the Men s walk in October WNY will take an offering to support The Gift. Donations can also be sent directly to the WNY treasurers, just make a note that it is for The Gift. The WNY donation will be presented at the International Advisory Committee meetings after the men s walk in October. Last year over $10, was raised at this gathering. How is God calling you?? If you have any questions, or wish to learn more about The Gift, please let us know. DeColores, Jim & Lora Keiper From Paul s first letter to Timothy I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his services, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14 and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen 18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that be them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and good conscience. Italics inserted by editor 1 Timothy 1:12 19a From Paul s first letter to the church of Corinth 26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31; 2:1-5 ESV 6
