1 Volume 25 No. 12 Western New York Walk to Emmaus & Chrysalis December 2015 Community Christmas Party 2015 Hosted by Alexander Gathering at ATTICA UMC Please note location correction!!! Saturday December 5, PM Fourth Day Article December 2015 De Colores! And greetings to the Emmaus Community! As Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching, our thoughts turn to the Advent season and the anticipation of the celebration of our Savior s birth. In our Community that means it s time for our annual Christmas party. This year it will be hosted by the Alexander Gathering and held on December 5 th from 1-4 at the Attica UMC, not at the Alexander UMC as was reported last month. Come and join us for an afternoon of fun, food and fellowship. Bring a dish to pass, your name tag and cross, and don t forget our tradition of the individual Gatherings presenting the entertainment! As of this writing I haven t received any notification of any particular presentations, but I m sure to be getting them soon! See you there! 2 Ecclesiastes 3: To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven The votes are in our next Spiritual Director will Be Pastor Greg VanDussen. We thank Pastor Vonnie for stepping up to finish out Pastor Rick Koch s term. She will continue on the Board of Directors filling her original Clergy position. Please offer Pastor Greg a warm welcome and gratitude for saying yes to answering God s call. We have visited several Gatherings now and are happy to be able share time and fellowship with you. Thank you to those who have so graciously welcomed us. We are on a mission to visit every Gathering in the year to come. Exciting things are happening in our Community! See elsewhere in this edition of the Rainbow Connection for places, dates and times for our Christmas Party, Mens s and Women s Walk #50 and Reunion this spring. Plans are in the works for a workshop that will address many issues facing our Community. We are also planning a time of fasting and prayer that will be conducted in several areas of our Community simultaneously, much like was done a few years ago. We thank God for blessing us with the opportunity to serve His Emmaus Community. Our prayers are with each and every one of you during this time of Thanksgiving. Decolores, Lynn & Pat Blakeman Musicians As there was no Walk this fall, we did not have the opportunity to gather for a workshop. As the Christmas party is meant to be a time of fun and fellowship, it s probably not a good time to practice. It is however a great time to come out and play. I hope you can all make it. If you plan on attending and need a music book, please let me know and I ll bring an extra (or extras) along. Hope to see you all soon. Peace -Chris Lindsey and I have recently met a lot of great people and have made many new friends. During our travels both locally and internationally, we have seen a consistent message shared by those we have met. That message is hope. With so many challenges and turmoil in this world, it can sometimes be difficult to find. As Christians, we know the source of this hope and have been called to share this with others. As the months move quickly towards the next Chrysalis Flights, please pray for those potential caterpillars who need to know that there is hope. Pray for those who have lost hope. Pray for those who have hope and can share this with others. The Chrysalis weekend might only be 3 days but it represents hope for the youth who attend. It represents hope for the future of the church. It represents hope that our God of love is indeed in the land. Joe and Lindsey Peters Chrysalis Board- Librarians 2
3 CHRYSALIS Board of Directors We are still in need of a person or couple to take over the supplies position. Our term is up in December This could also be a job where several people did aspects of the job with one person coordinating. An example would be if you did not have a way to haul the trailer, but loved to shop and restock, and had a friend to do the trucking. Lots of ways to get the job done. The totes and shopping list are very organized with an Excel spreadsheet, which helps with restocking. The trailer can be stored outside. We would be very willing to train anyone for the job and provide support until they are comfortable with what needs to be done. Right now, because of the fall walks being cancelled the trailer is 95 percent ready for the spring walks. If you are interested in serving the Emmaus community in this board position, please contact us. DeColores!!!!!!!!!!!!! And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel of multitude of the heavenly host praising Goad and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased! When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us. Luke 2: 1-15 ESV May we, like the shepherds, seek to explore the truths of the Lord. 4
