The form can be found on the website ( Fly with Christ! Jennifer Henton Next Steps Coordinator MEN S WALK: October REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 13 WOMEN S WALK: November 6-9 REGISTRATION DEADLINE: October 11 REUNION: November 22 As this article is being sent to Barb for inclusion in the Rainbow Connection there are only 29 days until the September 13, men s registration deadline. Of course, there are still adequate days to send your registration forms to us. But as has been noted before, pilgrims names must reach the registrars by the deadline to be included in the Rainbow. This is the only way the names can reach the entire community. We do look forward to receiving your registrations. Please contact us if you have any questions. De Colores! Will and Carolyn Rickman 24 Butcher Road ` Hilton NY wcdric@frontiernet.net 9 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each of you has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:9-11 2

3 Girls Flight #16 Lay Director Report I had the privilege of being the Lay Director for this year s Girl s Chrysalis Flight. It was an amazing experience. God blesses us in so many ways. The caterpillars/butterflies were obviously put there by God s planning. They seemed to be instant friends. They were wonderful singers, worked hard together on their posters/skits/presentations, and we all had fun! It was my special blessing to meet these girls and spend time with them. I continue to pray for each of them, and hope to see them at future Chrysalis/Emmaus events! When we say yes to being on team, we hope we are responding to a call from God to be His hands and feet, and that we measure up to that responsibility. We want to be a part of bringing this special experience to others- to help them feel God s blessings in their lives. But as anyone who has been on team knows, we are also blessed in so many ways! The team was made up of many very special people who worked together to bring this Flight to the girls, beginning with prayer and ending with prayer. Everyone who was a part of the planning, organizing, preparing talks, praying, making food, learning leadership skills, making Agape, praying, giving of your time, lighting candles, praying, transporting, ringing bells, praying, writing notes, moving furniture, shopping for supplies, singing, stocking the snack table, praying, and so many other things- all these people are part of the team that made this weekend a success. I call it a success because I could see the smiles on the girl s faces! It was wonderful to see everyone again at Reunion last weekend! The butterflies are already first RUSH for September 5 th. planning their I want to thank everyone who had any part of this weekend- from the sponsors, to the parents, to the girls, to the team, their spouses, and Big House. See what prayerful teamwork does! Fly With Christ Kathie Woika Greetings to you all, A few words from the Community Lay Directors It s hard to believe that September is upon us, and that the fall walks will soon be here. We trust that you have been praying for men s & women s teams. Also that we are listening to God s call as who he wants us to sponsor on these walks. Let s share the gift of Walk to Emmaus with those around us. That gift can change the world. In October I will be traveling to Nashville for the International Advisory Committee for The Walk to Emmaus. The meeting will be running from October 17-19, plus a travel day. I am looking forward to gathering with Emmaus folks from our country and around the world. It is exciting to hear how the Walk to Emmaus ministry is reaching out to so many people throughout the world. When I return I will share with you what I have learned. I do ask for your prayers as I travel and share with all those gathered about our Western New York Walk to Emmaus Community. DeColores, Lora Keiper 3

4 Boys Flight #16 Lay Director Report De Colores! I am still on a high even this long after Boy s Flight #16. It was amazing to see the hand of God in control and moving throughout the weekend. We were blessed with 12 Caterpillars, (now Butterflies), who made the Flight, so we went with three Tables and four Caterpillars at a Table. This worked out well for sharing, bonding and interaction. The Caterpillars were amazing. I believe our Lord called a group of young men who know and love Him and are seeking to grow in their faith, knowledge and commitment to Him. It was a joy to observe their enthusiasm in all aspects of the weekend, especially singing, I think we sang most, if not all, the songs in the songbook. They were cooperative, responded to the Bell, and actively took part in all activities; taking notes during the Talks, doing the discussions and posters, and sharing summaries, posters or songs at the poster party. I also believe we have some potential musicians for future Flights or Walks. Some of the Caterpillars played guitar for songs at the poster party or on breaks. I truly felt the Spirit of our Lord at work as I observed the Caterpillars listening to the Talks and during their discussions. His presence was abundant as He touched and moved hearts in the special moments and services; and finally, at Closing while hearing the statements of the new Butterflies in answer to the questions: What has the weekend meant to me? And, what do I intend to do about it? I heard our Lord saying to me: See I am in control, I make all things new only trust in me! Sometimes I lose sight of that, but He provides. And He generously provided and blessed all on Boy s Flight #16. I was especially blessed by the Team our Lord called to serve Him on Boy s Flight #16. They were there with one mind, to serve our Lord, and to witness and model His love to these young men. Their interaction, sharing, talking and laughing, with these young men was a joy to watch. Their helpfulness and attentiveness to their responsibilities made my job easy and the weekend flow smoothly, Even when questions or circumstances arose, they sprang into action. I am eternally grateful for their love and devotion to our Lord, and to the Caterpillars. I also want to thank Big House for all their contributions and help behind the scenes in making the Weekend such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. It was wonderful to have such a large turnout to support us in so many ways. Finally I would be remiss if I didn t mention the facility Camp Asbury. It is a great location for a Flight or Walk; the only drawback being the distances between some buildings. This was easily overcome by having transportation available when needed for some of us older individuals or those with physical impairments. We also had a third log who slept in Wilmott Lodge which housed the Caterpillars, Table Leaders and Youth Table Leaders, and acted as an assistant Bell Ringer. The Logs, Bell Ringers, Kitchen Coordinator and Big House Coordinator all kept in touch via cell phones and texting when necessary for coordinating events. All in all, the Facility, the meals and the spirit of cooperation were great. We were blessed to be there and I believe the Caterpillars enjoyed being there. Fly With Christ! Respectively submitted In His Name, Gary Caldwell, Lay Director Boy s Flight #16 News from Facilities: The Fall Walks will be held October 16-19, 2014 and November 6-9, 2014 at Christ UMC in Olean, NY. Have you helped your pilgrim to fill out the forms? Christ UMC has a youth group meeting in the Fellowship Hall at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays so to comply with the Safe Sanctuary plan of Christ UMC all pilgrim and team belongings will be needed to be loaded in cars before closing as we must vacate that area of the church. We are so happy to have Bill and Geniece Perkins and the Napoli Gathering doing Outside team. See you in Olean. DeColores! Bob & Trudie Slocum Facilities Coordinators 4

5 CHRYSALIS Board of Directors Planning for the Fall Walks #47 is in progress. The teamings are starting. We need to be praying for the teams and about who YOU will be sponsoring. Time is starting to run out for the submission of applications for the Walks. With the number of members we have, we should be able to have full Walks every time. Start thinking about agape for the upcoming walks! For those who supply agape for the walks please identify what individual or gathering supplies it. This will make it easier to return extras. Again, pray for the teams as they develop and throughout the coming months. Pray without ceasing! 72 Hour Prayer Vigil Remember your walk and seeing the posted prayer vigil. There were so many people praying for you and your fellow pilgrims and the team. Just 30 minutes to devote to the new pilgrims and the team members over their weekend will show that you truly care. The prayer lists are less than a quarter full look and see if you have at least ½ hour you can give to the pilgrims and team. MEN WOMEN This is our third year as Agape Chairs so we must step down. If you might be interested in being Agape as Agape Chairs please contact us. Or if you have any questions please feel free to contact us also. If you are willing to take on the task of Agape Chair/s Nancy and I will be willing to show you the ropes on this set of walks and work with you on the first set of walks in RNPRESTON@HOTMAIL.COM OR De Colores Rich and Nancy Preston, Agape Chairs Term Position Name Phone Lay Director Cherie Trabert (585) cheriet@rochester.rr.com 2014 Agape Suzanne Perry (585) wnyagape@gmail.com 2014 Spiritual Director Dave Wickins (716) revwick@gmail.com 2013 Clergy Sue Russell (585) asjrussell@hughes.net 2015 Community Bob & Deanna Laurie (716) lauriedbb@verizon.net 2015 Evangelism Laurie Manzer (585) lmanzer@rochester.rr.com Asst Evangelism Sonia/Karen Ingle (585) * karenlingle8488@yahoo.com 2016 Library Joe & Lindsey Peters (716) josephmpeters@yahoo.com 2015 Newsletter Barbara Swanson (585) bms4him@rochester.rr.com 2014 Supplies Marty Goodenbery (585) mzgoodenbery@yahoo.com 2015 Registration Erich/Vickie Jones (585) EVJones4u@yahoo.com 2014 Kitchen Zina Goodenbery (585) mzgoodenbery@yahoo.com 2013 Next Steps Jen Henton (716) jenniferhenton@gmail.com 2014 Treasurer Chris Collins (585) ccollin9@rochester.rr.com 2015 Team Selection Alethia Keiper (585) akeiper@rochester.rr.com 2014 Secretary Jessica White (716) jdgirl25@yahoo.com 2013 Facilities Cathy Garrett (585) cgarrett@frontiernet.net 2015 Music John Trowbridge (585) jtmtst@rochester.rr.com 2014 Emmaus LD Jim & Lora Keiper (585) wnyemmaus@wildblue.net 2015 Clergy Mary Rublee (585) rev.maryrublee@gmail.com 5

Proverbs 1:7 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? James 2:14 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10 6
