Emmaus aims to inspire, challenge and equip local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches and place of work. It provides a means by which we can grow together in love, grace & servanthood as members of the Body of Christ. Chrysalis has its roots deeply planted in its parent movement, the Walk to Emmaus. The focus of Chrysalis is a commitment to Jesus Christ through the local church. The objective of Chrysalis is to inspire, challenge and equip local church youth for a close friendship with Christ & for Christian action in their homes, churches, schools & community. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 A Note from the Community Lay Directors Well the long cold grip of winter is finally starting to loosen up, yippee. Soon we will start to see the signs of lawns, then green grass, flowers & leaves on the trees. All signs of new birth & growth with in nature, a beautiful time of the year. Likewise we in our lives may have times of being dormant. Is that what God is calling us to be??? As we approach the blooming of spring, be praying how God might be calling you to further grow and bloom. Then act in the ways that you are called to witness and be a beacon to God. Several weeks ago, nine members of WNY Walk to Emmaus had the joy of sharing with some of the leaders of the Toronto Chinese Methodist Church, TCMC. It was a long day, and a wonderful day. We got to their church in Toronto at about 12:30PM, just as the last service was ending. We then shared a Chinese meal together; it is Emmaus so we must eat. After the meal we spent the next 2 hours sharing what Walk to Emmaus is, what it has done in our lives and our churches, and answering any questions they may have. It was a great opportunity for each of us to reflect, share, and realize the importance of Walk to Emmaus for each of us. We were all blessed by the opportunity to witness. There currently is no Walk to Emmaus communities in Canada. At this time we have four men and five ladies from TCMC who are planning on attending the spring walks in Akron. We are looking forward to seeing and working with you during men s walk #46 at the Akron UMC. There are many opportunities to step up & help to serve on the walk. Within this Rainbow Connection you will find contact information to sign up for the prayer vigil, Work with the out of conference room team, work with the kitchen and attending the special weekend events, send-off, candlelight & closing. One very special upcoming event we wish to announce is a Regional Walk to Emmaus Leadership training event on June 7 th. This will be a regional Walk to Emmaus event being led by our regional & The Upper Room leaders. This will be held at the Hamburg United Methodist Church. More information will be coming out in the future. We ask that you mark the date on your calendar so you can participate. 6 We are excited to announce that George and Mo Poteat of the Second Sunday at Six Gathering have agreed to act as Out of Conference Room or Outside Team Coordinators. We are going to be conducting Walks #46 at Akron First United Methodist Church for the first time so we are uncertain as to what challenges and rewards this group is going to face. Extra help is always welcome, but more so on Thursday afternoon as supplies for the Kitchen, Conference Room and general housekeeping are unloaded from the trailers and positioned where needed. Also on Thursday afternoon we have to get the sleeping rooms ready for the Pilgrims, set up the conference room, and organized the Chapel and Agape rooms. The team also needs help getting their sleeping quarters ready. Sunday is another time where extra help is greatly appreciated as per our contract with the host church any sleeping area must be returned to the original condition by 8:30 a.m. Sunday. This involves moving furniture, cleaning and replacing items moved to accommodate the cots, air mattresses, etc. used by both the team and pilgrims. Then following lunch and closing all supplies must be packed and stored. During the remainder of the weekend the Out of Conference Room or Outside Team perform various housekeeping tasks such as cleaning bathrooms, making sure the toiletry supplies are restocked and other tasks which contribute to the Pilgrims comfort. DeColores, If you can help please contact Steve and Pat Morse: Bob & Trudie Slocum, Facilities Coordinators AGAPE Teams have started both Men s and Women s teamings. The Men s Walks #46 is a go. The walk is less than a month. Now is the time to be working on the Agape for the walk. The deadline for the Women s walk will be closing soon. Get those registrations in early. We need to continue praying for the team the team and the pilgrims going on the walks. We should be able to fill all the pilgrims openings; there are a lot of good Christians out there who would grow in God s Love. We have agape placemats and napkins. We will have them at various events for you to take and decorate. Each set of walks takes approximately seven hundred decorated napkins and placemats. Again, pray for the team selection and the future pilgrims. Pray without ceasing. Both prayer vigils are only about 50% full. Don t forget you can sign up for more than one time slot. How many napkins & placemats are needed for a set of weekends? 7 BRRRRR. Is it Spring yet?!? Well no but it s getting closer! Just a few more weeks until the Spring Walk, and then a couple days after that Spring arrives. Please plan on turning out for Send-Off, Candlelight and Closing for both Men s and Women s Walks, and don t forget to come out to Reunion on April 26, to welcome our new members to the Community. All the events are at Akron UMC, in beautiful, downtown Akron. This is a new location for us so we are excited to see how the dynamics work out. And now for some news that will really warm you up! Plans are underway for the Annual Summer Picnic. Just think hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, water balloon tosses, sunscreen and bug repellent WOW! I can t wait! Details to follow! Pick the task you feel called to serve, and contact me if you can help. -Thursday night need one person to coordinate Send-off, and two people for team dinner -Friday & Saturday need volunteers for food preparation, servers, and clean-up for all meals. -Sunday need help with meals and packing trailer. 8 CHRYSALIS Board of Directors Dear Emmaus Friends, The Second Sunday at Six Gathering has been asked to fulfill the duties of the Support Team for the Spring 2014 Emmaus Walks, # 46. The Walks will be held, for the first time, at Akron United Methodist Church. The dates of the weekends are: Men s - March Women s - April 3 6 Prayerfully consider how, where (what area), when, and if you will be able to help. After prayerfully considering your participation, please respond to Steve and Pat Morse at pamorse1@rochester.rr.com, specifying the days, times, and activities of your participation. If you cannot participate, we need to know that, as well. Being mindful you are being asked to prayerfully consider, having your response as soon as possible will be appreciated. We will then write your name on the schedule in the appropriate area, and you will all receive a copy of the schedule. If you know of others who may want to help, please forward this to them, as well. We are encouraged in the knowledge that God knows our need, and He will provide abundantly. 11 Job VS Ministry I read something about Job vs Ministry and I think it may be nice to share with others Some people have a JOB in the church;others involve themselves in a MINISTRY. What is the difference? If you are doing it just because no one else will, it's a JOB If you are doing it to serve the Lord, it's a MINISTRY. If you quit because somebody critized you, it was a JOB. If you keep on serving, it's a MINISTRY. If you'll do it only as it does not interfere with your other activities, it's a JOB. If you are committed to staying with it even when it means letting go of ther things, it's a MINISTRY. If you quit because no one praised you or thanked you, it was a JOB. If you stay with it even though nobody recognizes your efforts, it is a MINISTRY. It's hard to get excited about a JOB. It's almost impossible not to be excited about a MINISTRY. If our concern is success, it's a JOB. if our concern is faithfulness, it's a MINISTRY. An average church is filled with people doing JOBs. A great and growing church is filled with people involved in MINISTRY. Where do we fit in? What about us? If God calls you to a MINISTRY, don't treat it like a JOB. if you have a JOB, give it up and find a MINISTRY. God does not want us feeling stuck with a JOB, but excited and faithful to HIM in MINISTRY. Are you in ministry through Emmaus and Chrysalis? Please help us to get the message out! Prayerfully consider inviting us to your church or youth group to do a presentation on Chrysalis or Emmaus that the Kingdom may be enlarged on earth and in heaven!
