The Men's Walk is scheduled for September 28 - October 1, 2017 with application deadline of August 28, The Women's Walk is scheduled for November 2-5, 2017 with application deadline of October 2, If everyone who reads this article asks one person, we will have full walks this fall! Hopefully, you have been praying and God has been nudging you to sponsor someone for the Fall Walks. If not, start praying or keep praying. Pray for potential pilgrims! 2 Where are you? Where have you been? Greetings Emmaus and Chrysalis Friends! Mike Ooten, Walk 53, Table of Matthew, here. I am reaching out to you as a friend and fellow member of both communities. I have been missing you, all of you. Since we have had to cancel walks and flights due to low numbers of Sponsored Pilgrims and Caterpillars we have not gotten together as often as in the past. We do have monthly gatherings however, they have been very lightly attended. I LOVE this community and ministry, you all have supported me and my family with prayer and support when we were having hard times and struggling in our faith. I don t want to see this go away, I want us to REVIVE and REVITALIZE these communities. I want to share this with you: ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT SPONSORSHIP? The gift of sponsoring someone on their EMMAUS or CHRYSALIS journey is an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ to a fellow disciple. It is never too early to begin prayerfully seeking who God might be calling you to sponsor. In Luke 24, the resurrected Jesus appears to the disciples. Christ walks with them, listens to their pain, shares scripture, and breaks bread with them. Christ s identity was finally made known to the disciples and they were transformed, eager to tell others about the experience. Are you eager to share the Emmaus or Chrysalis experience with someone? 1. Pray about your role as a sponsor 2. Check with your local community about upcoming sponsorship training 3. Begin sharing about your transformation through the Emmaus family of ministries 4. Pray about the right time to extend an invitation 5. Set a time to meet with the potential pilgrim or caterpillar 6. Keep praying I received this in a newsletter from the International Emmaus Spiritual Director at the Upper Room. I am not claiming this as my own, but wanted to share it with you. 3 Team Selection Hey Community! We are currently recruiting men to serve on Walk 106 in September and women to serve on Walk 107 in November. It takes about 40 community member volunteers for each Walk to staff the Conference Room, Music Team, Prayer Chapel, and Agape Team. Jack Gastenveld and Tom Abbott will be leading the men on Walk 106. Mary Abbott and Suzy Ooten will be leading the women on Walk 107. There have been some folk step forward and volunteer to serve on these teams already but, we could use a few more to make the recruiting job easier. If you would like to serve on either of these two Walks, don t wait for someone to call you. Please call, text, or Lee Carleston at (865) or carlestonl@aol.com without delay to indicate your interest and availability. In putting together a Team, the goal of the Team Selection committee is to recruit Team members using a 1/3 1/3 1/3 guideline. This means 1/3 of the Team should be new community members who have not previously served on a Team or have served on one Team. It also means 1/3 of the Team should be folk who have previously served on 2-3 Teams. And finally, it means 1/3 of the Team should have four or more Walks experience (these are normally the persons who serve in the leadership positions). And, we try to spread the Team members from geographical areas across the GSMEC region and try to get a representation from the various churches and church denominations. If you were blessed on your Walk as a Pilgrim, I know you will be even more blessed in serving on a Team and being a part of the experience of the new Pilgrims. For first time Team members, the jobs are normally fairly simple and the training you need will be provided at Team meetings prior to the Walk. Think about it this way. If there had not been 40 men or women who volunteered to serve on the Walk you attended as a Pilgrim, you may not have been able to attend that Walk and receive the blessings you received. Right now, there are men and women who have already signed up and there are those who are currently being invited to attend the upcoming Fall Walks. Without volunteers to serve on these Teams, that might affect the experience of those planning to attend. God will use you in a mighty way in the lives of these Pilgrims.
