People needing wheelchair access can enter St Paul s most conveniently by the door at the base of the belltower. Name badges help make St Paul s an inclusive community. If you need a new name badge, fill in the form inside the pew sheet, send it to the parish office, and one will be made and left in church for you. Please turn your mobile phone off or on to silent before the service starts. It ll save you much embarrassment later on. Toilets are available at the entrance to the parish hall, which is located behind the church. Ask a member of the clergy or anyone who s wearing a name badge. We re here to help. Children are welcome in church at any service. There is a selection of children s books and toys at the back of the church near the font and there are also kids activity sheets and pencils available at the back of the church where the pew sheets and prayer books are. Children s Church runs during Term Time. Meet at the back of the church at the beginning of the 9.30am Eucharist. Please feel free to bring your children to the altar rail to receive a blessing, or to receive Communion if they have been admitted to the sacrament. As you take your place in your pew, please make yourself aware of the route to the nearest emergency exit. Should there be a fire, leave quickly, turn right, and assemble by the roundabout on Burwood Road. Please do not take photos inside the church or during the services of worship without permission.

Today, we welcome Owynn James Wiltshire and Mihaela Mitrovic-Tuckey (Ella Tuckey) into the family of God, the Church, through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Please pray for Owynn, Mihaela, parents and their godparents that they may know God s presence in their lives and be enfolded with God s love. What a year it has been.. Last Monday 12th of June marked the First Anniversary of being back in the re-furbished church. Praise the Lord! But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. For while we live, we are always being given up to death for Jesus sake, so that the life of Jesus may be made visible in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you.

Dear Fr James, Nice greetings from Auckland. Hope you are doing fine and that St Paul s is kind to you! I just wanted to let you know that I kept you and the whole congregation in my prayers this whole week, as on Pentecost was 5 years since you made me proud Sydney Anglican! I have the certificate here in my office and many look at it with interest! Today I had a chat with one of the chaplains in one of the Anglican schools - Fr John Goodwin, who is sending you nice greetings. He had Hobart past too. Life in new place is settling down and I am having 14 hours workdays! On Monday we hosted 200 Shia Muslims for their Iftar in Ramadan. It was an overwhelming event and experience. The spirit of hospitality was moving for both sides! In October we are having Cathedral Consecration as you could imagine, a logistic nightmare for the Precentor! I wish you a lot of patience and blessings in your ministry! Many Blessings! Fr Ivica Biography of The Rev d Ivica Gregurec - Precentor Ivica was born and raised in Zagreb, capital of Croatia. He studied at University of Zagreb, obtaining Bachelor and Master degrees in Theology (Catholic Faculty of Theology). He was ordained Deacon in 2001 and Priest in 2002, in Roman Catholic Cathedral of Zagreb. His deaconate and curacy were spent in Malešnica Oranice Parish, one of many sub-urban Parishes of Zagreb. After volunteering for work in overseas missions in 2004, he was assigned for the ministry in the International Missions in the Solomon Islands. Ivica spent seven years in the Solomon Islands. His main roles were Formator and Lecturer (Theology and Cultural Anthropology) in the Holy Name of Mary Seminary, Tenaru, as well as pastoral work as a Parish Priest in Good Shepherd Parish, Red Beach, Guadalcanal.

On Pentecost 2012, Ivica was welcomed into the Anglican Communion in St Paul s Church, Burwood, Sydney. In December 2012, he joined the pastoral team of Dunedin North Parish, where he was appointed Priest Assistant, with special pastoral responsibility for St Martin s Church, North East Valley and St Thomas s Church, Pine Hill. Ivica was commissioned Cathedral Precentor at Holy Trinity Cathedral on 27 November Apart from his passion for liturgy and interreligious dialogue, Ivica enjoys reading, geocaching and genealogy. He is also an Associate of the Sisters of the Church, a religious order with strong presence in the Anglican Church of Melanesia. He still hasn t converted to rugby he is a strong supporter of the Croatian national football (soccer) team. Our warmest best wishes to Barbara Stone, Pauline Thomas, Val Fuller and June Cameron who are commemorating their birthdays at this time. We wish them every blessing and much happiness many happy returns. We are conscious of conflict in Syria, Egypt, and elsewhere in the Middle East and we pray for peace and goodwill amongst all people and that the persecution of Christians might cease. God of the nations, whose kingdom rules over all, have mercy on our broken and divided world. Shed abroad your peace in the hearts of all people and banish from them the spirit that makes for war; that all races and people may learn to live as members of one family and in obedience to your laws; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Over the years the parish has benefitted from the generosity of parishioners, not only when they have been active members of the parish, but also at the time of their death. Parishioners are invited to remember the parish in their wills by making a bequest as a thank offering to God and to ensure that generations to come will enjoy worship and fellowship in well maintained buildings. Those wishing to make a bequest are invited to do so using these or a similar form of words: "I bequeath the sum of $... to the Rector and Wardens of the Anglican Parish of St Paul, Burwood, to be used at their absolute discretion for the charitable purposes of the parish." If you would like to make a donation to the Parish for the upkeep and maintenance of the Heritage building it can be done through the National Trust. Cheques can be made out to: National Trust of Australia (NSW) St Paul s Anglican Church Burwood Or Direct Credit to the above name with bank account details: Westpac BSB: Account number: Branch: 275 George Street Sydney NSW

The Annual Bellringing Festival for ANZAB (Australian & New Zealand Association of Bellringers) was held in the Nepean Valley over the June long weekend. The towers involved at the Festival were Wesleyan Chapel Castlereagh, Bowral Uniting Church, St Paul s Camden and St James Menangle (all these towers have been visited on the Parish bus trips). The weekend involves lots of ringing, teaching sessions, AGM, dinner, interstate striking competition and quarter peals. There were ringers from all over Australia, New Zealand, England and Ireland. Ringers like to ring on new peals of bells and two of these were recent additions. Four St Paul s Burwood ringers attended all or part of the weekend.

There were recorded striking competitions, which were rung in your home tower and forwarded to Perth to be judged independently along with other towers, two weeks before the weekend. One of these was the 6 bell, novice competition where three of the ringers have to either have been ringing for three years or less, or never been in a band that has won a striking competition. Burwood qualified for this competition and rang it as one of the touches at normal Sunday service ringing. There were five bands competing and we won with only 6 faults. The band was Christian Sullivan, Will Ryan, Emma Carnuccio, Jenny Davies, Andrew Davies and Pam Brock. The last time we rang in this competition was 2014 when we came second. We didn t qualify in the years in between.

The other recorded competition was on ten bells and rung at Christchurch St Laurence. The rules for this were different to the six bell competition. There were three St Paul s Burwood ringers participating (Andrew, Will & Pam). This band came third. Most of the ringers involved did not normally ring together or ring ten bells regularly. A total of eight-quarter peals were rung over the weekend and all were successful. Andrew, Will and Pam rang in one each. The ANZAB interstate striking competition was held at Menangle on six bells. The NSW team won this despite one of the bell ropes slipping wheel during the performance. Will Ryan one of our ringers was in the winning band. This ANZAB weekend is held in a different area each year. This year is the first time this group of towers have hosted this event and they certainly excelled. It is a time of much ringing, socializing and catching up with ringers you often only see on these occasions. The 2018 festival will be held in Melbourne on the same weekend. Pam Brock Whenever we think of Christ, we should recall the love that led Him to bestow on us so many graces and favors, and also the great love God showed in giving us in Christ a pledge of His love; for love calls for love in return. Let us strive to keep this always before our eyes and to rouse ourselves to love Him. Saint Teresa of Avila (28 March October 1582)

It is time to turn our attention to those without adequate shelter. We will be doing a Life Jacket run at the end of the month so if you have any warm blankets or men s jackets they would be much appreciated. These can be left at the back of the church. We have already had 150 torches donated. Various colours available with God s light shine on you is engraved on each one. St Paul s Burwood and May These are available at the Trading table after the 9.30am service on Sundays. Cost: $3 each or 2 for $5 The money raised will be used to buy the next batch of torches to be distributed to the homeless with the next Life Jacket run. Thank you for caring for our friends. If you have any used stamps then please bring them to Church. You can leave them in the box at the back of the Church. These earn money for the work of the Anglican Board of Mission Australia. Please leave at least a 2cm border around the stamps.

"Music nourishes our soul and is the glue which binds communities together. Many of our young people from fractured homes and refugees are denied community support. Symphony for Life is an organisation that wants to create community and social cohesion through music.. Teaching children music in an orchestral program will create a sense of achievement and community. This program wants to achieve equal opportunity for young people and we are passionate that our music program can help fill this gap. "

Awakening the Sacred through Literature and the Arts Conference Friday 7 July - Saturday 8 July 2017 at the Australian Catholic University situated at 25A Barker Road, Strathfield NSW 2135 Awakening the Sacred is the fifth in a series of conferences presented by The Sacred in Literature and the Arts (SLA), a community of interest that brings Australian and international writers, artists, musicians, academics, religious and members of the general public together to explore the interplay between the arts and the sacred. The 2017 conference asks how literature and the arts can help to awaken an experience of the sacred: do the arts provide a common ground for people of different faiths and no faith to open themselves to the ineffable? There will be a special focus on the meditative traditions and practices of East and West and the ways in which they are often nurtured and supported by literature and the arts. The conference is held in conjunction with The World Community of Christian Meditation. The conference features a wide range of speakers, including Laurence Freeman OSB, Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr, Sasha Grishin, Rachael Kohn, Maeve Heaney, David Tacey,Imam Afroz Ali, artists Michael Galovic and Chelsea Adkins, and the ACU Choir. Registrations for the Meditation event and the SLA conference are open from pm on Friday 7 July. Sessions begin at 3.15 and run till 9.15pm on Friday and from pm on Saturday 8 July.

In James 5: we read: 14 Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord 15 The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. (NRSV) If you would like to be anointed and to be prayed for then please ask one of the Priests in the Parish so that you can be anointed during any of our Services. 20 Genesis ; Psalm , 16-17; Romans ; Matthew Jesus shows us that God s mission is to claim the priority in our lives, even above family loyalty: I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, he says. He then goes on to say that our lives can only find their ultimate meaning in him because those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. May we never be afraid of dying to self so that we may be born anew, taking our part in the mystery of God s mission to the world. Pray that nothing will deter us from making God our first priority. Give thanks for those who engage in the mystery of God s mission both here and overseas.
