Welcome and opening words Jesus Christ is the light of the world; Jesus is our Way. With Jesus even dark places are light; Jesus is the Truth. In Jesus we shall live for ever; Jesus is our Life. Grace, mercy and peace be with you; and also with you. Hymn: O Worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness (SOF 457) Lighting the Baptism Candle God our creator, we thank you for the wonder of new life and for the mystery of human love. We give thanks for all whose support and skill surround and sustain the beginning of life. As Jesus knew love and discipline within a human family, may Elizabeth grow in strength and wisdom. Give Justin and Carrie your sustaining grace and love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Talk, prayer and song with the children: We re going on a journey We say sorry to God: God our Father, long-suffering, full of grace and truth, you create us from nothing and give us life. You do not turn your face from us, nor cast us aside. We confess that we have sinned against you and our neighbour. We have wounded your love and marred your image in us. Restore us for the sake of your Son, and bring us to heavenly joy, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Absolution Praise song: Hosanna, Hosanna! (SOF 189) Collect for baptism: Heavenly Father, by the power of your Holy Spirit you give to your faithful people new life in the water of baptism. Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we who are born again may serve you in faith and love, and grow into the full stature of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. The New Testament Reading: Matthew 4:18-22 Talk
Song: I want to walk with Jesus Christ (SOF 261) The Baptism Testimony, and the Presentation: Faith is the gift of God to his people. In baptism the Lord is adding to our number those whom he is calling. People of God, will you welcome Elizabeth and uphold her in her new life in Christ? With the help of God, we will. Parents and godparents, the Church receives Elizabeth with joy. Today we are trusting God for her growth in faith. Will you pray for her, draw her by your example into the community of faith and walk with her in the way of Christ? With the help of God, we will. Parents and godparents, in baptism Elizabeth begins her journey in faith. You speak for her today. Will you care for her, and help her to take her place within the life and worship of Christ s Church? With the help of God, we will. The Decision: Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God? We reject them. Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil? We renounce them. Do you repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour? We repent of them. Do you turn to Christ as Saviour? We turn to Christ. Do you submit to Christ as Lord? We submit to Christ. Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life? We come to Christ. Signing with the Cross: Elizabeth, Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of his cross. Do not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified. Fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ against sin, the world and the devil, and remain faithful to Christ to the end of your life.
Prayer over the water: Praise God who made heaven and earth, who keeps his promise for ever. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. Father, for your gift of water in creation, we give you thanks and praise. For your Spirit, sweeping over the waters, bringing light and life, we give you thanks and praise. For your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, baptized in the river Jordan, we give you thanks and praise. For your new creation, brought to birth by water and the Spirit, we give you thanks and praise. Father, accept our praise; may your holy and life-giving Spirit move upon these waters. Lord, receive our prayer. Through them bring Elizabeth to new birth in the family of your Church. Lord, receive our prayer. Drown sin in the waters of judgement and anoint your children with power. Amen. Profession of Faith: Brothers and sisters, I ask you to profess together with Elizabeth the faith of the Church. Do you believe and trust in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, Amen. This is the faith of the Church. This is our faith. We believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Baptism: Song: As water to the thirsty (SOF 659)
The tasks of parents and godparents: Faithful and loving God, bless those who care for Elizabeth and grant them your gifts of love, wisdom and faith. Pour upon them your healing and reconciling love, and protect their home from all evil. Fill them with the light of your presence and establish them in the joy of your kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Prayers of intercession: Ending with: Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. The welcome and Peace: There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism: by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body. Elizabeth, we welcome you into the fellowship of faith; we are children of the same heavenly Father; we welcome you. The peace of the Lord be always with you: And also with you. Offertory hymn: Lord of the Dance (SOF 1310) Notices The Sending Out: Giving of a Lighted Candle: Elizabeth, receive the light of Christ God has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and has given us a place with the saints in light. Elizabeth, you have received the light of Christ; walk in this light all the days of your life. Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father. Closing Hymn: You shall go out with joy (SOF 640) The Blessing: Go in the light and peace of Christ. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER The World The situations in Syria, Mali, Yemen and DR Congo Those in Niger facing a malnutrition crisis South Sudan where thousands of people have been fleeing fighting. Afghanistan where more than 2.5 million people face hunger. The humanitarian crises in West Africa and East Africa. Those areas of the world affected severely with flooding and landslides leading to deaths, disease and malnutrition All those who face lack of clean water, starvation and homelessness. The many troubled areas of the world including Somalia, Afghanistan, Egypt, Haiti, Japan, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Malawi, North and South Korea, Southern Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Iraq, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Palestine, and Israel. National and Local Our Queen and those who govern our lands. Those deployed in Afghanistan and around the world. Our own pastoral needs All those who mourn, those undergoing hospital tests, recovering from surgery or who are unwell Elizabeth as she is baptised today Praying for the Olympics This month we are asked to pray for: Participants Pray for those participating in the 2012 Games, that they will compete honourably, and encounter the living God in a powerful way. For those from nations closed to the Gospel to hear the good news of Jesus while they re here For the Athlete Family Homestay Programme: church families providing hospitality for families of athletes who are unable to afford to come and watch their loved-ones compete For Great Britain s own team - Team GB - and their families For the Games to be fair and free from corruption For the many international mission teams who will come to work with churches and witness for Jesus on our streets Fairtrade The 2012 Games will bring the world together. But, when it comes to trade, not everyone competes on a level playing field - poorest and weakest producers are often discriminated against. They get squeezed and end up producing in unsafe working conditions, for long hours and with little in return. The Fairtrade movement is committed to Creating opportunities for poor producers Making sure the way trade works is fair, both in terms of how much a producer receives and how swiftly it reaches them Making sure children are not being exploited Making sure there is no discrimination Making sure working conditions are safe
