Scott Krejci Dear Parishioners of Ware Church, I first of all have the distinct pleasure of introducing Martha Alice Caroline Ambrose who is called ALICE. She is the reason I was asked by your rector to assist at Ware Church for the Sunday services and all pastoral care needs in his leave of absence. I thank Grant Ambrose for this opportunity to once again come out of retirement and to be helpful to him. I thank God that I still have the strength and stamina to do it. Most of all I commend the Diocese of Virginia, the wardens, the vestry, the staff and all of you for so generously providing this leave to Grant so that he could be there every day with his family without having to deal with the constant demands of parish ministry. You have given him a wonderful gift which is the opportunity to bond with his wife and new baby without the interruptions and cares facing all clergy. I am not at all surprised by your gift to him because the Ware Church I know overflows with caring and loving people who look after one another. I suspect that you just decided to extend your generosity to the person who looks after all of you. Apparently you decided to look after your rector for a change. All rectors need to know that they are appreciated and that people care and respect their needs. You have shown that you do. What you have made possible is just one of many demonstrations of your love and outreach to one another. I am so thankful to have been with you once again and to observe the exciting things you are doing in your various ministries in the parish and in the community. Grant Ambrose s excellent leadership is more than evident! I know you welcome his return with much rejoicing. I will be worshipping again as a retired priest at Christ Church, Middlesex, where like Peter and Jane Worthington, I slip quietly into a back pew relatively unnoticed and glad for the opportunity to praise God for all the wonderful things he is doing in the church and in the world. I am discovering that I love to hear the rector chant the service, the sung responses of the people, and the ringing of sanctus bells is elevating. I will be missing all of you, but I look forward to seeing you sometime in the future. You now welcome home Grant Ambrose, Martha, and baby Alice! 2 WARE INFORMED Summer Coffee Hours start on the Church Grounds Sunday, June 3rd. Please visit the sign up sheet in the weekly newsletters to volunteer for any open Sunday. Ware s Youth are heading to Shrine Mont June 8-10th! Calling all Middle School and High School youth! It s time to plan to head to Shrine Mont for our Third Youth Pilgrimage. Our Picnic Pavilion is nearing completion and will be available for the Tri-Parish Mass on the Grass service on Sunday, July 1st. Boy Scout Troop 111 is working to provide us with four picnic tables for the Pavilion. The Vestry approved purchase of three Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices to rapidly address any situations involving sudden cardiac arrest. One will be installed in the Church narthex area, one in the main Parish Hall, and one in the lobby on the Office side of the Parish Hall building. Our Heading to Galilee team has begun its journey and is meeting regularly. The group will build on the results of our Gathering at the Well process from last year, looking to fulfill the opportunities and overcome challenges that were identified. Improved accessibility for the Parish Hall and Church building will be early priorities. The Gloucester Historical Society would like to announce the publication of two new books: The Register of Abingdon and Ware Parishes, Gloucester, VA, and Births, Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths, and Burials from the Register of Abingdon and Ware Parishes, Gloucester, VA , transcribed by Mary P. Liddell and William L. Lawrence. Mary was the 2017 recipient of the Historical Society s annual scholarship. The register book is a scanned reproduction of the orginal which is housed in the parish house of Ware Church. The second is a transcribed version listing the births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, and burial records of the church from 1830 to The register contains the records of the Rev. Mr. John Cole, ; the Rev. Mr. Charles Mann, ; and the Rev. Mr. William Byrd Lee, The book was filled by Two entries, a death record in 1918 and the 1924 baptism of the Rev. Mr. Lee s grandson were added later, The confirmations and listing of communicants were not transcribed. The transcribed book is the fourth printed as part of the Historical Society s historical projects initiative. Each volume can be purchased for $20 at the Church Office, Abingdon Church Office, Museum of History in the old Botetourt Building and the Visitor s Center located in the court circle. Mark your calendars for May 12-23, 2019 for a most extraordinary opportunity. Kingston parish will be offering a 12 Day Celtic Pilgrimage to Scotland and Northern England including time spent on the Isle of Iona, in Durham and on the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne. In each place we will learn about Celtic history and tradition and its influence on our own Christian heritage.

3 Hammer & Nail Guild- Join us on Saturday, June 9th at 8am for breakfast followed by projects around the Church ground and Parish Hall. Youth Pilgrimage Join Ware Youth on their annual pilgrimage to Shrine Mont the weekend of June 8th. Vacation Bible School Abingdon will be hosting VBS from June 18th to 20th 9-noon for all pre-school through rising 6th graders. Join to fun of the Rolling River Rampage. Summer Retreat Join Wabingston for their summer retreat to Shrine Mont, July 27-29th for a weekend getaway.. Our Theme this year is based on Ephesians 3:17-.and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. Chancel Guild We are always looking for new members to help prepare the altar and flowers for services. If you would like to help or need more information call the Church Office. Vestry Meetings The Vestry will continue to meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm. We hope to see all our Vestry members there on June 19th. Holy Days Mary Magdalene on Monday, July 23rd at 6pm in the Chapel. St James the Apostle on Wednesday, July 25th at 10am in the Chapel. Mass on The Grass We will be celebrating our country and freedom with a special service on the Church grounds near the Picnic Pavilion alongside Abingdon and Kingston parishes on Sunday, July 1st at 11a.m. Please join us after the service for a special picnic. Bring a side dish to share. Independence Day Join us on Wednesday, July 4th at 10 for a special Chapel service. Would you like to have something published in the next monthly newsletter?!?! 4 MUSIC NOTES - As the summer starts to evolve, the music continues. I am excited to have started planning some interesting and inclusive musical opportunities for our Sunday services, featuring some known faces as well as some guests. There will also be some music theory lessons that I am offering. Ever wondered how music works or what those strange marks are in the Hymnal? Come and find out. Open to everyone on the dates set out below. Starting right from a beginners level, all are welcome and over 5 weeks we will discover and explore the workings and theory of music. Please let me know if you are interested via e mail at music@warechurch.org so I can assess numbers as well as gather the correct number of worksheets! In the Parish Hall, the dates and times are: Wednesday evenings 7pm-830pm June 20 th, 27 th July 11 th, 18 th, 25th Just as a note this will be a continual class and therefore we will carry on where we left off from week to week. If there is a date that you cannot do then perhaps rather than excusing yourself of the whole 5 sessions we could get together on another occasion and catch up? I don t want to put anyone off who would like to take this opportunity. Waiting for your registration!!
