We conducted a total of sixty-eight funerals which includes Masses, graveside ceremonies and services in the funeral home. We invited the families of the deceased to our 10:30 Mass today which is for their intention. At the Intercessions, Sister Mary Bernard and the Lector will read the names of the individuals by month. The reading of the names is a sobering moment as we reflect upon the departure of so many parishioners whom we have known and who have been a part of the fabric of this place. We remember and pray for them because that is the way of Christians. From the very beginning of the Church, the Christians recognized their obligation to pray for the dead and, more specifically, to offer the sacrifice of the Lord for the remission of their sins. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Looking ahead to next weekend, Veterans Day falls on Sunday. November 11 this year is the 100 th anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War. We will have a small commemoration before the beginning of each Mass with the dual purpose of thanking the men and women of this country for giving of themselves to defend liberty and freedom and to pray for peace so that wars may cease. We request that our parishioners who are veterans and are in attendance stand as part of our commemoration so that we might recognize you for your service to us and to all humanity. Next Sunday is our Men s Society s Fall Breakfast. The men prepare a really good breakfast, and I encourage you to come on down to the parish hall for conversation and fellowship. The proceeds from the breakfast support the Sister Marita Daniels Scholarship which is given to two deserving students at St. Peter School. Don t fall into the thinking that says because I don t really know anyone I am not going. We know each other s faces if not one another s names. The breakfast is a great way to be introduced to one another. I have the census numbers to share with you. We had over 2,000 people attend Mass each weekend in our parish. That is pretty impressive. 3 THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME As promised, Bishop Caggiano has released a report of the settlements our Diocese has made as a result of sexual abuse of minors. Please turn to the last page of this bulletin for directions on how to access the report. -Fr. Mecca Parish Memorial Mass 10:30 a.m. Music Notes: Jean Langlais The men from the choir will be chanting portions from the Requiem Mass from the gallery. The women, meanwhile, will sing a choral Mass composed by Jean Langlais ( ) from their regular place in the front of the church. Langlais, who was born blind, composed much music for the Catholic liturgy. His Messe d Escalquens was composed in 1935 for a parish choir in the small village of Escalquens (south of France), where Langlais used to spend the summer with his family. Rite of Invitation Mass -The Rite of Invitation Mass will be Sunday, Nov. 11 at 9:00 a.m. All Confirmation candidates and parents must attend. This is the Church s invitation to come and prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. God is inviting you to be confirmed in the Catholic faith, the faith that began at your baptism and nurtured by your parents and the faith community of St. Peter s Church. CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR St. Peter Parish Hall Community Concerns is conducting its annual Thanksgiving drive once again. We thank you for your past support and your anticipated continuing support this year. The brown paper bags are in the back of the church. Please no roasting pans are needed this year as we have enough left over from last year. There are two lists - one for Thanksgiving dinner items and one for families in need items. Take whichever you prefer and return to parish hall November 17 and 18. This year we will have cones sectioning off a drop off area on Center Street to make the drop off easier for everyone along with volunteers to help carry the bags. A blessed Thanksgiving to all. The website can be found here: and is also featured on our homepage under the tab: Protecting Our Children. The Diocese has also published its Diocesan Financial Accountability Report that outlines a full financial report of settlement amounts for past claims of clergy sexual abuse of minors from the establishment of the Diocese to date. The report includes the sources from where the money was obtained to settle those claims. The report can be found on the diocesan website, or the Pledge to Protect webpage.
