I can remember from many years back the sale of Tootsie Rolls but haven t seen it in quite some time. This is a real throw back to bygone days. Pick up some of the little chocolate caramels and help someone in the process. Several weeks ago I mentioned here that the Parish Council thought it a good idea to provide the parishioners with more detailed information about our income and expenses and to do it on a monthly basis. For all these years, we have reported the Offertory from the prior week and that elusive $10,000 weekly goal which Fr. Audette calculated was needed. The Parish Council thought it would be enlightening, and perhaps eye opening, for everyone to see what goes into operating our parish. Beginning this month, we will print for you the income and expense figures for the previous month. Members of the parish Council suggested that we run it more than one weekend as not everyone is present on any given Sunday. I think the report is valuable for showing us our entire income stream and not just the Offertory. We will see as we move through the year the fluctuations in income caused by the schedule of payments from our two trusts and when we happen to receive bequests and gifts. On the expense side, we obtain a better picture of where our money is going. If you should ever have a question or a comment that you would like to ask or share, please do so. You can ask me or Art Mannion (his number is on the cover of the bulletin as required). What we cannot answer, we will ask Mary Schlictig, our bookkeeper, to look up. In today s bulletin, you will find a flyer entitled Revisions of Liturgical Norms: Catechesis Article One. What s going on now, you ask? Responding to the 2015 Synod, Bishop Caggiano has begun a review and revision, if necessary, of the diocesan guidelines on the celebration of the Sacraments. The first phase is the norms guiding the roles of liturgical ministers. The norms will go into effect on the first Sunday of Advent, December 2, on a provisional basis. They will be evaluated and then become the standard next Advent. Right now, in all honesty, there have been too many things going on here for me to read the document from beginning to end, so the norms are not in my head. But, they have to get in there soon, for we have to communicate them to the liturgical ministers and prepare to implement them. To make the Faithful aware of this review, the Leadership Office has provided six informational flyers, one for each weekend from now until December 2. The first one which you have in front of you today is a general overview of what liturgy is. The following articles go into the specific liturgical roles. Again, none of the norms will affect anything you will do, so don t worry that you will have to learn new words again. They regulate what the Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, and musicians do. I have enlisted Terry Pepin to help me with the

3 distribution of information and training. Our liturgical ministers will hear from us this week. You can listen to the Bishop s explanation by going to and clicking the box that reads Discover Liturgical Norms. We hope to have the video up by the weekend. You can check our own website. Thursday is the Solemnity of All Saints. Don t forget to attend Mass on this Holy Day of Obligation. -Fr. Mecca Interested in becoming a Catholic? Are you a Catholic who has not received all your Sacraments? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the normative way in which non- Catholics those un-baptized as well as those baptized into other Christian denominations enter the Church. It is also the way baptized Catholics who never received any catechesis and didn t receive Eucharist and Confirmation complete their Sacraments of Initiation. The Inquiry Period is in progress now with weekly Thursday evening sessions at 7:00 p.m. for those who want to explore the process. For more information, call the office. THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME St. Peter s offers two programs for our middle school and high school teens. Both groups meet throughout the year in the Youth Group room across from the Religious Education office. All middle school and high school teens are welcome to join at any time and are encouraged to come to any of the events on the calendar! Health Concerns -Please notify the religious education office (by to: stpeterfuture@stpeterdanb.org) if your child has any medical concerns in particular allergies or the need for an epi-pen. We need to be made aware so we can ensure that proper care is given in the case of an emergency. Also please be sure that your child has breakfast before coming to class. We cannot allow food in the classrooms because of allergies. Advise your child that if they are feeling unwell during class time they should let their teacher know and they can come to the office for assistance. Mass Requirement -Mass attendance is an intregal part of the Religious Education Program. Parents and students please remember to place your cards in the collection basket of the mass you attend. This Thursday is the Solemnity of All Saints. It is a holy day of obligation. The vigil Mass is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Masses Thursday are at 7:30 a.m., 12:10 noon and 7:00 p.m. Friday is the First Friday in November. Adoration follows the 7:30 a.m. Mass and continues until noon. Come spend some quiet time with our Lord. Music Notes: Amazing Grace (John Newton) The story behind Amazing Grace is well known. John Newton, a captain of slave ships, had a spiritual conversion experience during a severe storm at sea in Amazing Grace, however, was not penned until much later in his life (1779). It has now becomeperhpas the most familiar hymn in the English language; it has been recorded by countless singers, including Elvis and Judy Collins; Arlo Gurthrie performed Amazing Grace at Woodstock; in popular culture, Amazing Grace has appeared on The Simpsons and Star Trek; more recently, the story of John Newton has become the basis of a movie and a Broadway play. Most people, including those who are not regular churchgoers, know first verse of Amazing Grace by heart. After the tragic events of 9-11, this was the one song that united a nation in grief and hope.
