We offer our condolences to the families of Anna Rao who passed away last week. DANBURY, CT We enter into a new liturgical year today with the beginning of Advent. Once again in the cycle of the year, we begin by reflecting on the promise and the expectation of the fulfillment of that divine promise to bring about the salvation of humanity. Humanity is lost in the darkness of ignorance and sin. God will lead us out of that darkness into His wonderful light. God will be the instrument of our salvation. The dawn of our salvation is the birth of the Son of God, Jesus, the Messiah, literally, the One who saves. Again, we trace the steps of God s work to redeem His children, the objects of His love, from the promise of a savior to the Lord s Resurrection and the bestowal of the Holy Spirit. We are introducing the revised norms for the ministries of Reader and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion today. The norms are officially promulgated today and must go into effect on January 1, but I had decided that December is no month for trying to get parishioners to meetings. We conducted our meetings already and rather than wait for January, we are putting the new practices into place today. As I wrote to you before, the norms only apply to those ministering at Mass and not to the congregation. Some of our Readers and EMHCs are a bit worried that they won t do everything correctly. No worry. After several weeks the new practices will seem old hat. Our office staff wants to apologize for the mess up with the envelopes which some of our parishioners experienced last week, causing no little confusion for the envelope holders and the countesses alike. Not everyone, but a good number of parishioners received their offertory envelopes with several errors. The Christmas Day envelope was dated November 25. The upcoming Immaculate Conception envelope reads Christmas Flowers, and the December 25 envelope reads Immaculate Conception. The envelope company, Our Sunday Visitor, is going to give us a credit for the printing mix up, thank you, but that doesn t clear up the confusion. We ask you to disregard the dates on these envelopes and go by what is on the face of the envelope. Use the Immaculate Conception envelope on Saturday, the Christmas Flower envelope if you wish to contribute toward flowers. Our office will record your contribution based on the envelope and not the date. During our meetings with the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, several of them asked me if I would remind the parishioners about the proper way to receive Our Lord. I am happy to do so both in print and from the pulpit. Perhaps what the EMHCs notice most often is that recipients of Holy Communion forget to say Amen. Please remember that your Amen is your affirmation to the statements The Body of Christ and The Blood of Christ. That Amen is shorthand for I believe. Central to Catholicism, of course, is our belief in the Real Presence, that is to say, that the bread and wine consecrated is the

3 body and blood of Jesus. Not a symbol but the real thing under the appearance of bread and wine. With full consciousness, gratitude, and love make your personal acclamation, Yes, I believe! Mecca Music Notes: Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols Sunday, December 9 3 PM The Festival of Lessons and Carols tells the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books, and the Gospels. Christmas Carols, sung by the choir, are interspersed between the readings. The congregation is also invited to join in singing some of the more familiar Carols.This is the second year St. Peter is celebrating the Festival of Lessons and Carols. This year, our Adult Parish Choir will be joined by our Children s Choir and our newly established Nelly Goletti Choristers. There will be almost 50 choir members of all ages praising God for the gift of the incarnation and our redemption in Jesus Christ! Please be sure to invite your family and friends to this festive liturgy. The Gospel Value for the month of December is Peace. As December unfolds, we will share the many examples of peace our St Peter students will share with each other and the school community. Thank you to everyone who contributed clothing for the SPS Clothing Drive. Over 2,100 pounds of "clothes" were collected which yielded about $438.00! Thank you to all the parishioners who clip and share box tops with St Peter School! We are in the middle of a contest to see how much money we can raise for our school. 4 DECEMBER 2, 2018 Baptism Classes -A Baptism class will be offered Sunday December 9, 2018 from 9 10 a.m. Any unbaptized child 6 years old and up must attend this class before a baptism date can be scheduled. This class is specifically for the child, however we require that at least one parent attend with their child. Class will be in Room B05 at St. Peter School. Please register at the Religious Ed office. Calling all Angels and Shepherds -Children interested in participating in the Christmas pageant during the Christmas Eve children s mass please sign up in the Religious Ed office. Costumes will be provided if you do not have one. Dress rehearsal will be December 19. Mass Requirement -Mass attendance is an intregal part of the Religious Education Program. Parents and students please remember to place your cards in the collection basket of the mass you attend.
