2 A LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF LITURGY, CLAIRE McLIAM Dear parishioners and friends, My name is Claire McLiam and for the past eighteen years it has been my privilege to serve our parish community as the Director of Ministry and Liturgy. Have you ever felt called to serve your parish, yet unsure of how to contribute? Below you ll find the beau ful tes monies penned by parishioners just like you who through their own individual gi s and talents contribute their me in service to our parishes. If you ve ever hungered for a deeper rela onship with God, I invite you now to read the words of your fellow parishioners and consider your own gi s. Our churches are God s gi to us when we allow ourselves to answer His call, there s nothing that we cannot do. If you ques on whether or not you re qualified, all I can say is this: all that is needed is an open heart and a willingness to serve. If you aren t sure of your gi s at this me, please come see me at the parish office. I would be happy to speak with you. Through Divine Mercy Ministry, God has given me the message of Complete Trust in Jesus. This Trust in Jesus, has deepened my faith and love for God; has developed a stronger prayer life for me; has encouraged me to go to confession more o en; and to always feel His presence in my heart. I no longer feel sad, weak or sick. I am a LIVING WITNESS of God s Love and Mercy. Emma Eday, Divine Mercy Ministry Coordinator One Sunday a er a request for Sacristan volunteers, I found myself walking to the Sacristy and wondering who is this person?, what is driving these feet forward? It was so out of character for me, but I was being called to serve; and, I said Yes! I serve once a month and on that Sunday I am more aware of the day, an cipa ng the service and coming Mass. Amazingly, there is always extra me providing me wonderful silent alone- me in front of the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle. Margaret Cooper, Sacristan 5:30pm Mass I have the pleasure of bringing Holy Communion to the home-bound parishioners who cannot come to Mass any more. This is truly a humbling and rewarding ministry. The joy in an EM s heart is real and an immense treasure. The Lord says: the harvest is rich, workers are few. Please join us in this awesome ministry and be surprised by the touch of the Holy Spirit. Anonymous, Ministry to the Sick I feel Honored and Privileged to serve as Sacristan and EM as well as this year s Grand Knight for our local council of the Knights of Columbus. Being involved with both HR/SJ and the KofC has improved my life in many ways and has made me feel more loved and welcomed than I have ever been before. I recommend all male parishioners join the KofC. John Bromberek, Sacristan, EM 8:30am Mass and KofC I feel blessed to be working with the HR/SJ Conference of St. Vincent de Paul. We work with people in need, people who are homeless, dealing with illness, or just need a li le help and someone to listen to them. John and I have developed a closeness as a couple while serving together and individually in a number of ministries. We help each other with the different ministries and also find me to a end Bible Study together. Please think about volunteering to serve our Church and parishioners in any way you can; we are sure you will also feel Honored and Privileged. Dolores Bromberek, EM 8:30am Mass and St. Vincent de Paul Being a parishioner at St. James-Holy Redeemer has taught me the importance of service. Throughout my years as a member of the HRSJ community, my family and I have go en involved with both the school and the parish communi es. From altar serving to making the flower arrangements for masses, we try our best to serve in any way we can. As an altar server, lector, Eucharis c minister, and life teen leader, I have been able to serve God and contribute to the parish community. Throughout these types of services, I've been able to find my faith and grow closer to God. I learned that in order to be more faithful, I have to turn that faith into ac on and "walk the walk". I've seen firsthand the affect that God has on his people, and the power that brings a community together to worship and serve Him. Through service, I've experienced the love God has for me, and the strength he has given me to go out of my comfort zone and serve. Anica Quizon, SJ-HR Student and Ministry Volunteer In Christ, Dame Claire McLiam

5 EVANGELIZATION WHY DO WE DO THAT? Why is there no Mass on Good Friday? There is no Consecra on on Good Friday because we solemnly watch as our Lord is crucified. The Apostles could not yet Consecrate the hosts themselves since Christ had not risen; His Body and Blood were s ll separated. Good Friday services consist of the Liturgy of the Word with venera on of the cross and a Communion service with hosts that were Consecrated on Holy Thursday. No Mass is celebrated between Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil as we wait anxiously for the glorious celebra on of Easter! Support Your School! Enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at New Moon Restaurant 2138 Verdugo Blvd Montrose Tuesday April 25, 2017 Lunch 11:00-3:30 and Dinner 5:00-9:00 Dine In or Take Out (not delivery) Bring this Flyer with you and mention you are from St. James Holy Redeemer School Place your receipt in the box provided New Moon will donate 15% of the proceeds to SJHR Are You Being Called To Become A Deacon?
