1 May 22, 2016 The Most Holy Trinity Our Mission: Sharing Faith, Celebrating Traditions, and Serving Each Other to the Praise and Glory of God. Boy Scouts awarded the Ad Altare Dei Religious Emblem At a Presentation Mass held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Sunday, May 15, 2016, Boy Scouts Sean Metz (Troop 303), Allister Quizon (Troop 317) and Colin Carr (Troop 303), each received the prestigious Ad Altare Dei Religious Emblem from The Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles. After completing an intensive program of many months, these Catholic Scouts distinguished themselves with this award. The Ad Altare Dei (to the altar of God) program's purpose is to help the Catholic Scout develop a fully Christian way of life in the faith community. It is based on the seven sacraments as a primary means toward spiritual growth. Congratulations to Allister, Sean, and Colin! 2 More about Msgr. Marc Trudeau from an interview conducted by by Zachery Hipolito, SJHR 5th grader: I was born in California and attended St. Finbar Grade School, Luther Burbank Jr. High and John Burroughs High School. CSUN and graduated from USC. I entered St. John s Seminary and was ordained in I had always been active in my parish, even as a young adult. Prayer was always an important part of my life and I felt a special connection to Christ in the Eucharist. I ve been a priest for 25 years. My favorite part is connecting with people, especially in the key moments of their lives. I love celebrating the Sacraments and meeting many different people on Sundays. I haven t been bored since 1986 and that s a lot to say about the priesthood! I started at St. James the Less in 1991, moved to St. Philip the Apostle in Pasadena in 1995 and then on to St. Pius X in Santa Fe Springs in 2001 where I was pastor for 3 years. I served as Cardinal Mahony s priest secretary from In 2010, I was named pastor of St. Margaret Mary in Lomita and in 2013 was asked to come back to St. John's Seminary to serve in the Pastoral Formation Office for a year and then as Rector in As a priest, it is a particular privilege to be able to celebrate the Eucharist and to share it with our community, becoming what we receive and then sharing it with the world around us. Things I enjoy are college football, (Go Trojans!) and baseball (Go Dodgers!). I am a Middle-earth nerd and have read The Lord of the Rings about 40 times along with scholarly works about J.R.R. Tolkien s writings. I am a NCIS and NCIS New Orleans fan and enjoy sci-fi. The beaches we visited while growing up were Paradise Cove in Malibu or Zuma. In high school and college it was Will Rogers. When I lived in Lomita, I liked Hermosa Beach. I like Hawaii and have been there a number of times. This year, I am going to Ireland with 3 classmates. I ve been there before but my friends haven t so it will be fun. I read a lot and paint. I like the beach and mountains and spending time with my family. I enjoy my work and have never thought of it as a drudgery from which I needed to escape. Today s Readings First Reading Before anything was created, the wisdom of God was brought forth (Proverbs 8:22-31). Psalm O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8). Second Reading God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us (Romans 5:1-5). Gospel Everything that the Father has is mine; the Spirit will take from what is mine and declare it to you (John 16:12-15). Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys is the novel we read next. Ms. Rhys wrote a prequel to Ms. Bronte s novel. She imagines the life of the crazy woman hidden away in the earlier novel. In Wuthering Heights, by CharloƩe s sister, Emily, the narrator goes to the wind blasted heath country and hears of Catherine and Heathcliff and how they were bound together in a sort of mysɵcal union, defying death itself. We will see whether Ms. Rhys has wriʃen a prequel as splendid or fearsome. Come to the rectory at Holy Redeemer on the first Friday of the month, June 3, 2016, for our meeɵng at 7 o clock. There is NO requirement that you have read Jane Eyre by CharloƩe Bronte. And if you haven t read either book, come anyway for ChrisƟan fellowship.
