4 Page 4 Update Planning the Future of our Parish We are now forming the parish Pastoral Council, which will meet monthly to discern the future of our parish. At this time and based on the strongest areas of concern at the Listening Session, we will be focusing on Youth and on Sunday Mass. The parish Finance Committee has met twice in the past few weeks in order to look closely at our resources and set a direction for how we can pay our bills as well as consider new ways to expand parish ministries. The Website is being re-designed, especially so that it can be viewed easily on mobile devices. On September 12th, more than 160 parishioners talked together in small groups about our parish s strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities

Frank or a deacon as soon as possible, so that we can help you set your wedding date here in your parish of St. John the Baptist! In order to set the date, we need to have the "formal interview" required by the Catholic Church. When we meet, we can also talk about marriage preparation, your rehearsal, and all the details that go into your wedding. And please count on our prayers during this blessed time of your Engagement -- your wedding here will be a joyful, beautiful event! Have You Been Asked to Be a Sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation? Sponsor (godparent) is a sacramental ministry. The sponsor takes part in the ritual as a Catholic and provides example from her/his life through living and acting as a full member of the Catholic Church. Because of the seriousness of this ministry, the Church has the following requirements: 1. The sponsor must be a full member of the Catholic Church through Baptism and Confirmation and Eucharist and at least 16 years old (the responsibilities of this ministry are undertaken by an adult). 2. The sponsor must be a Catholic living an active life in the Church who provides good example. Someone married outside the Church is not able to receive Communion and is not able to be a sponsor. Also, a Catholic who has left the Church is not able to be a sponsor of a new member into the Church. 3. When there are two sponsors, they are spiritual parents and are godfather and godmother. 8 Page 8 Come and support the Good Works of the Knights of Columbus The annual Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Dinner and Chinese Auction will take place on the evening of Saturday, October 22, and the doors will open shortly after the Saturday evening Mass. Tickets are on sale after mass. The price of a ticket is $15 for adults. SAVE THE DATE Christmas Pageant, December 10th, 7:00 pm We will be registering children, grades 1 and up! We can really use substitute catechists (any grade level), assistants, or volunteers. Especially needed at this time are folks who can cover the front desk while classes are in session. We strive to help people stretch their budget and enjoy a meal out. We also strive to serve those who often eat alone. We hope dinner accompanied by conversation will provide a pleasant evening.
