3 Page 3 Next Weekend: Palm Sunday, April 9th Palms are distributed at all the masses, and blessed at the beginning of mass after the reading of Matthew s gospel of the Entrance into Jerusalem. This year the Passion of St. Matthew will be read as we enter into this Holy Week and the Dying and Rising of Jesus. Please join us at the 11:15 mass for the Solemn Procession: We will be joined by the Children s Choir and the Adult Choir, and we hope that as many families as possible will be part of this Palm Sunday Liturgy. The 11:15 mass will begin in the Downstairs Hall, and all are invited to be part of the Solemn Procession with palms into church. Rehearsal for all those who are assisting with the Easter Vigil liturgy (Holy Saturday, 8:00 p.m.) Wednesday, April 5th at 7:00 p.m. in church Lenten Ecumenical Services : 12:00 Noon April 5 th W.R. 4 Page 4 Monday of Holy Week: Celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation Confessions will be heard 4:00 5:00 p.m. (confessional room) Parish Holy Week Penance Service with individual confessions at 7:30 pm Sacred Triduum Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 9:00 a.m. Morning Prayer Holy Thursday, April 13, The Mass of the Lord s Supper, 8:00 p.m. is our joyful annual celebration of the gift of the Holy Eucharist. The very heart of our parish family is the Eucharist, and all are invited to be part of this liturgy. Twelve members of our parish have been selected to be part of the Mandatum, the Washing of the Feet. Our pastor, Father Frank, after the homily, will approach each of these persons and wash the feet. Go and do likewise! commands Jesus! Good Friday (April 14), Service of the Lord s Passion 3:00 p.m. is the ancient liturgy that includes St. John s Passion, Veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion. April 15th Solemn Easter Vigil, Holy Saturday, 8:00 p.m. is the highpoint of the Church Year. We welcome the Light of Christ into our darkened church, listen to the vigil of readings, and renew our Baptism Promises in the light of the Paschal Candle. Bring your family to this powerful experience of our faith!

6 Page 6 Please come and be part of Morning Prayer during the Sacred Triduum During the Triduum it is not permitted to celebrate Mass. Our focus is on the three liturgies of the Mass of the Lord s Supper (Holy Thursday at 8pm), Service of the Lord s Passion (Good Friday, 3pm) and the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday night, 8 pm). We will gather for Morning Prayer at 9:00 a.m. on the three mornings of the Triduum, (Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 13, 14 and 15). Morning Prayer is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, also called the Divine Office (and found in the breviary ). The psalms are prayed antiphonally (each side of the church alternating), and includes Scripture, intercessions, Our Father and a blessing. Morning Prayer on Holy Saturday will also include the blessing of Easter food. Please consider being part of these Triduum Morning Prayers! L.I.F.T. Ladies, please feel free to join our L.I.F.T. gathering on Tuesday, April 4, at 7 P.M. Liz and Laura will preside over a special prayer service. Laura then will discuss a favorite author, Joan Anderson, and her book, The Year by the Sea. 12 Page 12 Lent is a favorable season for opening the doors to all those in need and recognizing in them the face of Christ. Each of us meets people like this every day Pope Francis Dear Friends: During the special Lenten season, please allow me to share a special request with you. If you have never contributed to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, or if you haven t contributed in a number of years, please consider making this the year that you join with me and other members of this Parish family and make a donation to the 2017 Appeal. As you may already be aware, 100% of all the money raised by this fund helps support more than 60 programs and services that the people of our church as well as all of the people on Long Island have come to rely on. These programs include services to people in need; affordable housing for senior citizens; people with disabilities and our veterans, as well as formation of our priests, deacons, lay leaders, and young people. These are just a few of the programs that help make our church and this Island a vibrant and wonderful place to live. But to help ensure that we can always serve those who come to us for aid, support and spiritual guidance, we need help from you!
