THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November 4, 2018 You shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. ~ Deuteronomy 6:5 Today's readings try to answer the question, "What must I do to be successful?" The readings begin with just one commandment: Love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your strength. The psalm extolls God's strength and protection, giving us lots of reasons to love God. The Letter to the Hebrews once again contrasts the perfection of Christ as priest with the weakness of the other priests. Mark reminds us of the first commandment and adds a second element to it. We must not only love God but we must love our neighbor as ourselves. Mark does not provide a lot of details, just the simple understanding that to love God with your whole self and your neighbor as yourself is worth more than any other sacrifice. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. THE ST JOHN VIANNEY YOUTH CHOIR The choir will sing at the 5 pm Mass on Saturday, November 17 th. Rehearsals continue on Wednesdays. The choir is open to children in grades 4 8. Contact Rene Whalen at jwhalen2@cox.net if your child is interested and you would like more information. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS St. John Vianney Council #12312 support the Knights of Columbus effort to provide relief to the families and individuals affected by the devastation left by Hurricanes Florence and Michael. If you, too, would like to contribute to these efforts, please contribute online at Our Council s next meeting on November 8. All men in the parish are welcome to join. Please contact us at knightsofcolumbus12312@gmail.com for more information. COFFEE HOURS ARE BACK!!! Given the popularity of Sunday Morning Coffee, we are planning to continue hosting them even during the winter months downstairs in the Church Hall! Our next coffee hour will happen on Sunday, November 11th. Volunteers are needed to donate time and/or baked goods. Consider giving just 30 minutes of your time before or after your Mass to help. It's a great way to get involved and meet other people you see every week but don't get to talk to! Other coffee hours are scheduled for December 16, January 20 and February 17. Contact Dot at or dottcomm50@aol.com to be added to the volunteer list.
