Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer Spontaneous prayers or A faith-based song Reflection Question for June 22 nd What do I fear? How might faith in Jesus help me to respond to my fears? THEOLOGY OF THE BODY Join our Theology of the Body Group, where we ll address many issues that deeply touch and effect our lives as married couples and as embodied human persons. This study group is open to ALL, and will meet from 7:00-8:30pm in the Pastoral Center on eight Wednesday evenings: June 25, July 2, July 9, July 15, Aug. 6, Aug. 13, Aug. 20, and Aug. 26. We especially invite Marriage Sponsor Couples, Pre-Cana Team couples, and couples preparing for marriage to participate. For further inquiry, please call Fr. Jim Sorra at the parish office or at jsorra@stlouisparish.org. What is the Theology of the Body? In his early pontificate, Pope John Paul II devoted nearly all of his Wednesday general audiences to expounding a theological vision of human life, relationships, marriage and sexuality known as the theology of the body. In these addresses he illuminates the meaning of human love in the divine plan, and exhorts all to enter into the joy and transformation that flows from Christ s redemption of human love and relationships. It is John Paul II s timely response to the confusion troubling our marriages, families, our culture, and our Church. Papal biographer, George Weigel, calls the theology of the body, one of the boldest reconfigurations of Catholic theology in centuries a kind of theological time bomb set to go off with dramatic consequences, sometime in the third millennium of the church. 6 YOUTH DIRECTOR S COMMENTS July 1 MS & HS Mystery Trip from 6-10pm; $10; Deadline June 24. July 6 World Youth Day Send-Off Mass at 9:30am. Please join us! July World Youth Day in Australia July 27 MS & HS Lunches to the Homeless; Deadline July 20 July 30 MS & HS Piney Run Fun (Hiking/ Canoeing/Cookout!) Since Flag Day is this weekend, I was reflecting about the times the flag has meant the most to me. While I do not believe that patriotism means blindly following government leaders or not being able to question injustices in the system, I do think there is a lot to be said for national pride. Seeing the flag in a parade or at a federal building is pretty awesome, but the most incredible display of the flag had to be at the World Youth Days. As we prepare for World Youth Day in Australia (July 12-22), I am prepared to again see flags from hundreds of countries proudly being carried as we gather and as the Pope comes. And yet, the one that really gets me is the American flag. We use it (and the beautiful Maryland flag) to show our patriotism but also to guide the way for those looking for us. As it is hoisted above, our group from Baltimore can see where the bearer is going. It is also a beacon for those from other states who we will meet in Australia. Awesome, huh? This Flag Day, pray for our country, for those serving in war-torn areas, and for all of those who sacrificed much so we can fly it. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU. MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY: June HS CYM Camping Retreat at Elkneck State Park! Deadline June 12 June 20 Workcamp Prayer and Info Night at 7pm June Workcamp Retreat. Please pray for all attending! June 28 CYM Dunking Booth at Clarksville Picnic! Call Pat at to help! NEW COLLEGE MINISTRY (Pass the word along!) Deadline: July 2 August 3 12:45pm College Send-Off Mass and Brunch NEWS FROM WORLD YOUTH DAY PILGRAMS We would like to thank Monsignor, and the entire St. Louis Parish for continuing to support World Youth Day through prayer and contributing to the success of our bake and fair trade coffee sales! The World Youth Day Pilgrims would be privileged to pray for any intentions parishioners would like to request. A special prayer book located in the church next to the statue of St. Louis is available for anyone to write their personal intention they would like to share. This book will be taken to Sydney and the World Youth Day Mass with the Pope where all the intentions will be offered. If you would prefer, you may your intentions to psprankle@stlouisparish.org and they will be scribed into the book. We are so grateful how you always make our youth feel they are a contributing and important part of this parish! SHRINE OF ST. Seat belt and child safety seat laws are strictly enforced across Maryland during this week; faith communities are pulling together to help their own, especially the highest risk groups: teenagers. It's a matter of caring. If you see a friend, loved one or young person forget to use their seatbelt, remind the person that you care and want them to buckle up.
