Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song Reflection Question for April 26th How might Jesus be present to me in my life, might be walking beside me, without me recognizing? 2 Dear Parishioners: What a glorious celebration of Easter! Though the crowds were large and the parking challenging, I hope you agree with me that our Holy Week and Easter celebrations were most meaningful and beautiful! I extend my deepest thanks to Father Jim who oversaw all the details of these liturgies and to everyone who participated in making them so powerful: our Sacristans, Church decorating committee, our Choir, Folk Group, Musicians, Altar Servers, Hospitality Ministers/ Ushers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Cantors, Children s Liturgy Committee, Information Table Committee, Tableau Stations participants, Parking Lot attendants, the Cub Scouts who prepared the Easter fire, Seminarians, Deacons and Priests. We are so blest to have such an incredible array of individuals who care so deeply about our parish and offer their time and talents in service to St. Louis. Each of you made Holy Week and Easter a most wonderful celebration of our Catholic Faith and I thank you sincerely. I also wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to those who so generously contributed to the Easter collection and to the special Poor Box appeal for the victims of the earthquake in Italy. Your response amounted to $ which is being sent to Archbishop Molinari of L Aquila to be used as can be of most help to the people of his devastated town. May God bless you one and all! Msgr. Luca P.S. Don t forget next Sunday s (April 26 th ) Spring Concert in the church at 4pm! Our concerts are not to be missed! THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK If God would grant me but one thing, I d choose again another spring. The flowers for the Altar are given this weekend in loving memory of Paul Tribles. 3 SECOND COLLECTIONS April 26 Building Fund STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE When the risen Christ encounters his disciples in the locked room, he adds a new Beatitude to the ones we ve heard proclaimed before Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. Stewards of the mysteries of God s love do not need proof of the risen Christ. They know it because their lives have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who has breathed new life into them. As stewards of this great gift, it is appropriate to reflect on how we, in turn, add new life into our parish communities. A GIFT THAT IS MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL Your planned gift to Saint Louis Parish will provide financial support forever. You have received the gift of faith. 5 YOUTH DIRECTOR S COMMENTS YOUTH DIRECTOR S COMMENTS: APRIL When my kids were much younger (ages 1-5), I would whistle as I came home, especially after a weekend away. It was always the same whistle sound with always the same response. My kids would come running from wherever they were and jump in my arms, hugging my neck and yelling, Daddy s home! Daddy s home! Doesn t happen too much anymore now that they are older, but I will always remember the sheer joy and excitement as we greeted each other. I can t even begin to imagine, though, the excitement at finding the tomb empty or the joy at being in a room with the Risen Jesus. Was it completely overwhelming or were there some tinges of doubt or regret or just plain awe? What we celebrated last weekend can only give us joy and excitement if we really reflect on our God s desire to come to earth, to suffer, die and rise so that we would live always with Him! During this Easter season, take time to accept the Risen Jesus more into your heart and mind and soul. Ask Him for the joy and abundance of life that He promises for all of us who believe. HAPPY EASTER! MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY: April 19: BRUNCH at Grassroots Shelter. 6 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION WE ASK FOR YOUR PRAYERS During the month of May, about 175 of our children will share in an event of great joy for both them and our entire Catholic community. They will receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time. They and their families have been preparing for the celebration of this Sacrament for some time now. They have learned how sacred and precious the gift of the Eucharist is and what it means to share that gift with others. Our St. Louis family recognizes what a gift these children are to us and we ask for your prayers as we bring these two great gifts together Blessing for our First Communicants Jesus Christ, Bread of Life, travel beside these children as they take their first steps to your table. Help them to recognize you in the words of Holy Scripture, in the Blessed Sacrament, in your people, and in themselves. Draw these children close to you so they may radiate your love to others. Amen.
