Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song Reflection Question for March 29th The Greeks wanted to see Jesus. When people encounter me each day, do they encounter Jesus? How? CHURCH LINENS Today by Ms. Tranchitella & on March 29 th by Ms. Wiedel.

2 Dear Parishioners: On the Sunday before Lent, I offered you three challenges for your consideration during Lent. One of those challenges, simply put, was to go to Confession to make our peace with God through the powerful gift which Christ gave us called the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If you have yet to celebrate this encounter with God s loving kindness and mercy, I d like to draw your attention to two opportunities this week: --On Tuesday evening at 7:30pm, we will celebrate our parish Lenten Communal Penance Service. This celebration consists of a communal period of preparation followed by individual confessions. As in the past we will have several additional visiting priests that will be present to assist in this wonderful opportunity. On Wednesday evening we will be offering that Sacrament from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the church as part of the archdiocesan program called The Light is On For You! If you haven t been to Confession for some time now is the time. Don t be afraid. Do you remember the beautiful words of the hymn called Hosea? In it God s invitation is given to each of us: Come back to me with all your heart, don t let fear keep us apart. Long have I waited for your coming home to me Now is the time! The Light is on for You! THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK When things go bad, don t go bad with them. The Lenten Candles for the Blessed Mother are given this weekend in loving memory of Margaret Murray. Our sincere gratitude is extended to Beth Felsecker for providing this weekend s candles. 3 March 15, 2009 SECOND COLLECTIONS March 29, 2009 Building Fund STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE Jesus tells his disciples of the immeasurable generosity God has bestowed on them by offering His only Son for their salvation. Do we rejoice in this gift of Our Savior and respond to this love with our own immeasurable generosity? Do we allow the light of Christ to shine in the world through us? Or do we withdraw, refusing this gift, and prefer to live in a way that denies the light of Christ? A Gift that is Mutually Beneficial There are a variety of estate planning options that enable you to make a gift to Saint Louis Parish and depending on the method, you can realize significant tax savings and/or income. Among these methods are donor-advised funds, charitable remainder trusts and pooled income funds. Over the next few weeks, each one of these methods will be explained in more detail in this section of the bulletin. For more information, contact Mary Helfrich, Parish Development Director, at MHelfrich@Stlouisparish.org PERSERVING OUR TREASURED LEGACY Parish Mortgage: Monthly mortgage payment...$ 29,320 for 35 months Please consider making a sacrificial pledge to this campaign that will enable us to bring down the mortgage of our new Church and Pastoral Center. 1. ARCHBISHOP S ANNUAL APPEAL This Annual Appeal campaign is much different than a one time special collection. The theme of this year s campaign is: Do Everything for The Glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31-11:1) It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift, payable over ten months. A significant gift to the Archbishop s Annual Appeal will touch the lives of many others in a very positive way and it also provides an important portion of the budget of the Archdiocese. Most dioceses in the country conduct an appeal, once a year, to help with the costs of providing services and programs to their parishes and people. The Archdiocese of Baltimore is no exception. As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the appeal please reflect on God s gifts to you. We believe He has given you all that you have. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese, to the work of the Church throughout the world should be given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. Sometimes it is difficult to envision how one pledge can help an organization the size of our Archdiocese how it can make a real difference. But each pledge does make a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministry and services. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they glorify Him by enabling the work of our Archdiocese. As you may know our parish receives 25% of each dollar raised until we reach our assigned goal of $184,000. After we reach goal, 50% of all over goal dollars are returned to us to be used for our sister parishes: in Western Maryland (St Joseph in Midland and St Mary in Lonaconing) and St Ambrose in Baltimore as well as for the support of The Sisters Academy, our Parish Needy Family Fund and for tuition assistance. Thank you sincerely for your prayerful consideration of this appeal and for your generous response. RESPECT LIFE The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will require taxpayers to pay for abortions. Roe said nothing about abortion funding. Later Supreme Court cases held that Roe implies no limitation on the authority of a State to make a value judgment favoring childbirth over abortion, and to implement that judgment by the allocation of public funds. The current version of FOCA removes language found in previous versions of the bill ensuring that taxpayers will not be forced to pay for abortions, declaring instead that government may not discriminate against abortion in publicly funded programs. Respect Life Meeting Tuesday, March 24 in Room 303 at 7:30 pm (note change of date and room). Interested in this ministry? Come and check us out meeting attendance is flexible; commitment, love of the gift of life and putting your faith in action is necessary! Everyone is welcome. Info: Grace Kissane

This time, I didn t get too lost but really found out more about who I am and Whose I am. I was a bit off the trail, looking for orange signs to set me back on course. I had cut through some heavy brush and was trying to find the way back to my car. I remembered a lake that was nearby the orange trail so I looked and finally found the lake. I headed that way, and realized that I was actually standing only a few yards away from the orange trail in the first place! When we get sidetracked or lose our way from God, God is as close as that orange trail was: As close as an open heart and as easy as saying a prayer asking Him to help you find your way. I LL BE PRAYING FOR YOU! Rumor has it that we have some great young people (and adults!) here at St. Louis! Rumor has it that over 325 workers helped to make the 28 th Annual CYM Italian Dinner the success it was! Rumor has it that we made over $2000 gross more than last year and last year was one of our best! Rumor has it that almost 1300 meals were served! Rumor has it that our St. Louis community was exceedingly generous once again with items for baskets, desserts, volunteer hours and the greatest sacrifice of all, eating the homemade Italian foods! Thanks to our God & to all who used the gifts He gave to make our dinner so special!
