LOUIS CHURCH MOST HOLY TRINITY May 30, 2010 Daily Mass Readings Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Next Sunday Proverbs 8:22-31 Zephaniah 3: Peter 3:12-15, Timothy 1:1-3, Timothy 2: Timothy 3: Timothy 4:1-8 Genesis 14:18-20 Psalm 8:4-9 Isaiah 12:2-6 Psalm 90:2-4, 10, 14, 16 Psalm 123:1-2 Psalm 25:4-5, 8-10, 14 Psalm 119:157, , , 168 Psalm 71:8-9, 14-17, 22 Psalm 110:1-4 Romans 5:1-5 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 John 16:12-15 Luke 1:39-56 Mark 12:13-17 Mark 12:18-27 Mark 12:28-34 Mark 12:35-37 Mark 12:38-44 Luke 9:11-17 What is Lectio Divina? While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection Question for Next Sunday, June 6, 2010 Pay attention to the details of today s Gospel it s more than just the overwhelming generosity of Jesus response to a hungry crowd. On their own, the disciples could not possibly have fed all those people, much less have leftovers. Still, Jesus tells them to feed them. Jesus performs this gracious miracle of hospitality with and through those whom he has called. The Eucharist can never be my communion; rather it is a gift we are given to share. We are sent to go in peace to love and serve the Lord. 2 Dear Parishioners: This weekend we celebrate, with the rest of our nation, Memorial Day a federal holiday that commemorates the courageous U.S. men and women who gave their lives in the military service. In years past this holiday was known as Decoration Day since it reflected the custom of placing flowers and other decorations on the graves of those who had fallen. For Roman Catholics it is an opportunity to pray in a special way for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation their very lives. We should never forget to pray in thanksgiving for these dedicated and patriotic individuals whose bravery has enabled us to live in freedom. Let s make Memorial Day more than just the beginning of the summer vacation season let it truly be a day to pause and gratefully remember in prayer those who died for our freedom. May God reward them for their bravery. May they and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in God s peace. Amen. Msgr. Luca THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Good, better, best; May you never rest; Until your good is better, and your better best! -- Anonymous GOOD DEEDS OF THE CHILDREN: Jillian cleaned the playroom; Becca dried off the dogs after they went swimming in the pond; Tori helped at Brownie camp; Jack set the table; Samantha cleaned her room, vacuumed the stairs, and cleaned the dining room cabinet; Mandi helped her sister with her jobs; Glenn helped bring the school food donations to poor seniors; Tara donated food at school for poor seniors. The CDA Court St. Louis would like to thank all of the ladies, and a few men, who participated in our 4th Annual Vera Bradley Charity Bingo on May 21st. YOUTH MINISTRY I went to a memorial service recently for the father of a friend of mine. We can learn so much about life from someone s death, and John Cahoon was a person who embraced life. His daughter, Joanne, and other kids continue his legacy. Live for today, dream for tomorrow, learn from yesterday. In his wallet, John kept a scrap of paper with the above quote in his handwriting. Maybe this sums up a message for all of those going through transitions right now, whether they be from spring to summer or from high school to college or from middle school to high school. John s personality and his wisdom speaks to all of us about what is important and, knowing John s family, WHO is important. I pray that each of you grow in knowledge and wisdom and grace with Jesus as your guide and friend. I LL BE PRAYING FOR YOU. MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY: June 1: MS CYM Movie Night with special invitation to 5 th grade!!! 6-8:30pm June 6-11: Please pray for our college friends at Workcamp in Delaware! 6 SECOND/SPECIAL COLLECTIONS June 5/6 Catholic Communication Campaign June 26/27 Building Fund STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE Today s psalm reminds us that we have been crowned with glory and honor and given rule over the works of God s hands. But we must be good stewards, for the Lord will surely hold us accountable for the use of those gifts! PLANNED GIVING As parishioners of Saint Louis Church, old or new, we are all beneficiaries of more than 150 years of service and parishioner generosity. A planned gift to Saint Louis Church, will sustain this good work for generations to come. For more information on making a planned gift to Saint Louis Church, contact Mary Helfrich, Parish Development Director at or MHelfrich@stlouisparish.org. RESPECT LIFE: WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE PRAYING AT THE HILLCRST ABORTION CLINIC IN CATONSVILLE IF I COME ON SATURDAY, JUNE 5? Our ministry is a ministry of prayer. We do not pray at the entrance, we pray on the opposite side of the building on Rt. 40. From the Rt. 40 side you won t encounter women going into the clinic as the clinic is located on the 6 th floor of a 7 story office building 30 feet from the sidewalk. We do not speak to anyone entering the building. Sidewalk counseling is done at the entrance to the clinic by trained people. Prayer is usually private and silent. You may choose to hold a sign, walk along the sidewalk or kneel while praying. You won t be harassed. This is safe, nonconfrontational, peaceful prayer. You won t see graphic photos. People and families of all ages are welcome. We pray the first Saturday of each month between 9 11 am. Join us for ten, twenty or thirty minutes of prayer! For information call Grace Kissane at NEEDED: T-SHIRTS FOR KIDS: Howard County Hospital is requesting donations of plain white T-Shirts for children who are discharged from the Emergency Room with ruined shirts.
