Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer Spontaneous prayers or A faith-based song Reflection Question for June 15 th How might I more generously share the gift of God s love with others? 2 Dear Parishioners, I recently read of a lesson a gentleman named Church Saufley (from Louisville, Kentucky) learned from his experience of white-water rafting. He writes: Several years ago I went white-water rafting as one of those things you check off your bucket list. But I found out that it was more than just an adrenaline rush the river had things to teach me. One thing it taught me is that I cannot always trust my instincts. It made me aware that we have some human tendencies that work against us instead of for us. For example, if the river is pushing your raft into a downstream rock, you are supposed to lean toward the rock. Now, when a several ton rock is coming straight at you, there is nothing in your body that wants to lean toward that rock. Trust me, nothing! But if you lean away, your weight shifts toward the river, the water comes in your raft and you get dumped. And, as with most lessons in life, the river will keep teaching you until you learn the lesson. Relationships, especially close ones, can sometimes work that way. When the relationship is strained, and there is tension in the air, you are in the rapids! One instinct we have is to try to protect ourselves by shutting down communication or by communicating defensively. In river terms, we are leaning away from the relationship, and often we get dumped. It doesn t feel comfortable, but the better choice is to lean in to the relationship with more compassion, empathy, and communication. That s how we stay in the raft together and get to calmer waters, where we can once again enjoy the beautiful scenery on the journey. Msgr. Luca THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Comparison is the death of true self-contentment. The Altar and Sanctuary flowers in the Church are given this weekend in honor of the 65th anniversary of the marriage of Roland and Marjorie Miller. In a day of more Catholics and fewer priests, Saint Louis is happy to sponsor this effort to provide priestly care for Catholic patients.

THE POOR NEED YOUR HELP Looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of poor people? Among the many ministries here at Saint Louis there is one that is looking for additional helpers. Once a month Saint Louis parishioners feed 700 people at Our Daily Bread a wonderful place in Baltimore city where poor and homeless people literally sit down for a served meal. No questions are asked about their status. They are simply treated with dignity and respect in an environment of Christian love and compassion. You can help by preparing chicken pieces according to a simple recipe. Members of our parish prepare the meal in their homes as they would prepare chicken for their family and then drop them off at the home of Mary Agnes Lewis (6005 Ten Oaks Road across from our parish cemetery) on the 2 nd Monday of each month. Available volunteers then take the food to the facility located on Falls Way Road and serve the meal on the 2 nd Tuesday of each month. For additional information about how you can help, call Mary Agnes Lewis at This is a wonderful way in which a family can work together in preparing a wholesome meal for some of God s special people. FOOD DRIVE THIS WEEKEND This week is our food collection weekend. We will be sorting food in the narthex of the Church at 6:30pm. We can always use help. With a good crew we are finished well within an hour. Sorting food is fun and easy and for parishioners of all ages. Please join us. ST. LOUIS GARDEN CLUB The St. Louis Garden Club is attending the Pennsylvania Lavender Festival on June 13 th. This is a car pool trip to Willow Pond Farm in Fairfield, PA (just north of Emmitsburg). Members should meet in the St. Louis Church parking lot at 8:30am. The festival entrance fee is $5, payable at time of entry. Herbal picnic fare is available for purchase or you can bring your own lunch. We should return to St. Louis Church by 3:30pm. For more information call Pat Ferensic at or visit KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ICE CREAM SOCIAL The St. Louis Knights will be holding their annual family ice cream social at the Franciscan Friary Manor House grounds on Monday June 16 th at 7pm. 5 YOUTH DIRECTOR S COMMENTS I was recently privileged to be having lunch at a restaurant with my daughter. While there, we noticed an older couple (probably in their 80 s). Although we are usually not too aware of other diners when we eat, these two caught our eye. The woman had put a napkin on her head and was making faces at the man. The man was trying to contain his laughter but was shaking from the effort! At another point, the man winked at the woman and started laughing again (not sure what that meant!) It was fun to watch this couple who seemed to enjoy each other s company (and life!) so much. I don t know what you have planned for this summer but I do wish you laughter and good times with people you love (and who love you). I pray that you stay healthy and doing things that are holy and that make you happy. Consider joining us with CYM activities, too, because we have a lot of good times planned as well.
