Registered membership in the parish and attendance at a Baptism Class are required for all parents prior to their first child s Baptism. Holy Communion A two-year required sacramental preparation process begins in the first grade. It culminates in the celebration of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in the second grade. Confirmation A two-year required sacramental preparation process begins in the seventh grade. It culminates in the celebration of Confirmation. Matrimony A six-month required sacramental preparation process begins when the engaged couple meets with the priest or deacon and culminates in the couple s exchange of consent on their wedding day. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) A one-year process for preparation and study is required for all those interested in becoming Catholic. 2 PILGRAMAGE TO ROME On October 22 to November 1, 2019 Saint Lawrence Parish will take a Pilgrimage to different Churches in Rome. Saint Lawrence wants to extend the invitation to our parishioners to join them. The coordinator of this, Rochelle Silvernail, will be here at Mass on Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29 to speak about the Pilgrimage. She will be available after Mass for questions. Meet the Artists Meet Fr. Norman Fischer, Pastor of St. Peter Claver AND Natalie Chartier, Parishioner of Christ the King as they share their beautiful art creations with us. On Friday, July 27 from 5-7 PM, pizza and refreshments will be served. On Saturday, July 28 from 12-3 PM, cookies and refreshments will be served. BISHOP APPROVES OUTDOOR SHRINE DESCANSA EN EL SEÑOR Durante varias semanas hemos escuchado lecturas que relatan la difícil tarea de los profetas y discípulos. En el Evangelio de hoy, el Señor Jesús escucha lo que le cuentan los discípulos enviados de dos en dos a servir a la gente. Jesús, comprendiendo que están fatigados, les dice: Vengan conmigo a un lugar solitario, para que descansen un poco (Marcos 6:31). Quizás esto también es lo que el Señor les dice a sus discípulos del año Debemos hacer un alto en nuestro camino de discípulos y simplemente descansar en el Señor. La Misa del domingo brinda muchas oportunidades para la reflexión, en especial durante los períodos de silencio luego de las lecturas. Por qué no dedicar algo de tiempo hoy a permitir que la palabra salvadora del Señor penetre tu corazón en esos silencios? HOW TO REQUEST A MASS INTENTION Those wishing to honor a loved one during the celebration of Mass for the living or the deceased, or for prayerful remembrance of anniversaries, birthdays, and other special intentions may call or visit the office. Masses are usually scheduled weeks in advance, so if there is a particular date on which you want the Mass Intention, please make the request well ahead of time. The suggested stipend for each Mass is $5.00. 4 SIXTEENTH THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY JULY 28, 7, 2018 FORMATION ORIENTATION There will be an orientation session for all parents of Religious Education students. At 9:30 AM on Sunday, August 12, all parents of preschoolers through 5th graders will meet. At 6:00 PM on Monday, August 13 parents of 6th graders through high schoolers will meet. We will have the schedules of classes for the year, a parent handbook and grade specific prayer books. You can meet your child s Catechists, and we will answer any questions you may have. If you have not registered our child, you may do so then. Classes will start on August 26. 5 SIXTEENTH THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME TIME JULY JULY 28, 7, 2018 Pastor s Post by Father Al DeGiacomo On Sabbatical A Pastoral Letter to The Parish the North American College, the American Seminary in Rome. As you know, my sabbatical starts today, July 22, after Mass, and it ends on Saturday, December 1, with confessions and Mass for the Vigil of the First Sunday of Advent. During this sabbatical time, I will be in Guatemala, improving my Spanish conversation skills, and in Rome, taking a course through the Continuing Education Office at While I am away, you will be well served by our retired priests and other priests as necessary. Mary Jane Trimble was vigilant in engaging the services of these men weeks and months ago. You will note an insert in today s bulletin, for your reference, detailing priest coverage for Masses during these next four months. For sacramental, danger of death emergencies, Mary Jane will contact priests of our deanery from our neighboring parishes. The standard operating procedure for Saint Andrew parishioners, admitted to Lexington hospitals, is for a Lexington priest, assigned to that hospital for pastoral care, be contacted for anointing. A word on parish governance while I am away: Mary Jane Trimble, Deacon Brian Wentz and Deacon Bruce Browning will form the leadership team for the parish in consultation with Ron Ferreira, Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). Together they will oversee the everyday running of the parish. Should an issue arise requiring greater authority, they will refer the matter to Fr. Bob Nieberding, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Lexington. Should the matter warrant, he would refer it to Bishop John. No new parish initiatives may take place in my absence. Ongoing parish programs will certainly continue as usual. To this end, the PPC and the Finance Council (FC) should continue to meet to administer the ongoing needs of the parish as necessary. Deacon Wentz, Deacon Browning and Mary Jane Trimble may also consult with the Executive Committee of the PPC: Ron Ferreira, Chair; Will Begley, Vice Chair; Warren Jackson, Secretary. As I mention above, you will be very well served by our retired priests and this group of parish leaders, as well. Pray for me as I shall pray for all of you. I ll be home for Christmas!
