Registered membership in the parish and attendance at a Baptism Class are required for all parents prior to their first child s Baptism. Holy Communion A two-year required sacramental preparation process begins in the first grade. It culminates in the celebration of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in the second grade. Confirmation A two-year required sacramental preparation process begins in the seventh grade. It culminates in the celebration of Confirmation. Matrimony A six-month required sacramental preparation process begins when the engaged couple meets with the priest or deacon and culminates in the couple s exchange of consent on their wedding day. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) A one-year process for preparation and study is required for all those interested in becoming Catholic. HOW TO REQUEST A MASS INTENTION Those wishing to honor a loved one during the celebration of Mass for the living or the deceased, or for prayerful remembrance of anniversaries, birthdays, and other special intentions may call or visit the office. Masses are usually scheduled months in advance, so if there is a particular date on which you want the Mass Intention, please make the request well ahead of time. The suggested stipend for each Mass is $5.00. 4 CALLED TO SERVE For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as one mightier than I. But he did as Jesus asked, and the Holy Spirit descended and heaven s voice spoke to Jesus, You are my beloved Son. Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him. Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION & BENEDICTION in the Daily Mass Chapel FOLLOWING 11:00 AM WEDNESDAY MASS - 9:00 PM ARE YOU A PRACTICING CATHOLIC BUT HAVE NEVER RECEIVED THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION? Preparation classes for Confirmation for adults (ages 18 and over) who are practicing Catholics (Baptized and regularly receiving Sunday Eucharist) but simply have never received the sacrament of Confirmation will be held at the Catholic Center, 1310 W. Main St., Lexington, KY. Participants must attend all 5 preparation classes. Sponsors are invited and encouraged to participate with the candidates. Dates: Tuesdays: January 15, 22, 29 and February 5 and 12, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Please contact Karen krood@cdlex.org or , ext. 251 by January 8, 2019 for more information and to register. (There must be a minimum of 4 participants for the class to take place). Once completing the preparation, candidates may either receive the Sacrament on Pentecost Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the 11:15 am Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King or at their parish with the youth when Bishop John comes to celebrate Confirmation. THE LUNCH BUNCH Please help keep our Sanctuary clean. After Mass on the weekends, if you could kindly tidy up your pew and the area around you. Our current cleaning service does not do this for us, so we need your help in keeping our Sanctuary looking nice. Oh, and don t forget to take home your bulletins! 5 Opportunities for Life Collection Opportunities for Life: The Opportunities for Life Collection on January 19 & 20, 2019, is taken up each year in all four Kentucky dioceses during the week of the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade (January 22), as part of the Kentucky bishops' unified message advocating for a pro-life culture in Kentucky. In the Diocese of Lexington, funds from this collection will provide resources to pregnant women and new families in crisis, including material assistance, parenting education and ongoing emotional support. Catholic Charities staff will offer these services to women and families across our Diocese. Natural Family Planning Class Series This year s first Natural Family Planning course in the Lexington area starts January 20th. See details below.
