Registered membership in the parish and attendance at a Baptism Class are required for all parents prior to their first child s Baptism. Holy Communion A two-year required sacramental preparation process begins in the first grade. It culminates in the celebration of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in the second grade. Confirmation A two-year required sacramental preparation process begins in the seventh grade. It culminates in the celebration of Confirmation. Matrimony A six-month required sacramental preparation process begins when the engaged couple meets with the priest or deacon and culminates in the couple s exchange of consent on their wedding day. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) A one-year process for preparation and study is required for all those interested in becoming Catholic. Hemos estado escuchando el Evangelio según san Marcos durante este año litúrgico (Ciclo B). Hoy comenzamos a escuchar una larga sección del Evangelio según san Juan que empieza con el milagro de la multiplicación de los panes y peces. Este milagro es un preludio de las declaraciones del Señor, que comenzaremos a escuchar en algunas semanas, en las que Jesús se llama a sí mismo el Pan de Vida. Cada semana somos testigos de un milagro en la Misa. No vemos la multiplicación de panes. Lo que vemos con los ojos de la fe es el milagro de la transformación de elementos comunes, pan y vino, en el Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor. Una vez que hemos recibido al Señor, comienza la multiplicación, porque en la Eucaristía se nos fortalece para multiplicar nuestros esfuerzos por alimentar a los pobres, darles refugio a los que no tienen hogar y brindarles consuelo a los afligidos.. HOW TO REQUEST A MASS INTENTION Those wishing to honor a loved one during the celebration of Mass for the living or the deceased, or for prayerful remembrance of anniversaries, birthdays, and other special intentions may call or visit the office. Masses are usually scheduled weeks in advance, so if there is a particular date on which you want the Mass Intention, please make the request well ahead of time. The suggested stipend for each Mass is $5.00. 4 FORMATION ORIENTATION FOR PARENTS Sunday August 12 9:30 AM Preschool-5th grade Monday August 13 6:00 PM 6th grade-high School There will be an important orientation session for all parents of Religious Education students. We will have the schedules of classes for the year, a parent handbook and grade specific prayer books to hand out. You can meet your child s Catechists and we will answer any questions you may have. 5 Pastor s Post by Father Al DeGiacomo On Sabbatical A Pastoral Letter to The Parish American College, the American Seminary in Rome. As you know, my sabbatical started July 22, after Mass, and it ends on Saturday, December 1, with confessions and Mass for the Vigil of the First Sunday of Advent. During this sabbatical time, I will be in Guatemala, improving my Spanish conversation skills, and in Rome, taking a course through the Continuing Education Office at the North While I am away, you will be well served by our retired priests and other priests as necessary. Mary Jane Trimble was vigilant in engaging the services of these men weeks and months ago. For sacramental, danger of death emergencies, Mary Jane will contact priests of our deanery from our neighboring parishes. The standard operating procedure for Saint Andrew parishioners, admitted to Lexington hospitals, is for a Lexington priest, assigned to that hospital for pastoral care, be contacted for anointing. A word on parish governance while I am away: Mary Jane Trimble, Deacon Brian Wentz and Deacon Bruce Browning will form the leadership team for the parish in consultation with Ron Ferreira, Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). Together they will oversee the everyday running of the parish. Should an issue arise requiring greater authority, they will refer the matter to Fr. Bob Nieberding, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Lexington. Should the matter warrant, he would refer it to Bishop John. No new parish initiatives may take place in my absence. Ongoing parish programs will certainly continue as usual. To this end, the PPC and the Finance Council (FC) should continue to meet to administer the ongoing needs of the parish as necessary. Deacon Wentz, Deacon Browning and Mary Jane Trimble may also consult with the Executive Committee of the PPC: Ron Ferreira, Chair; Will Begley, Vice Chair; Warren Jackson, Secretary. As I mention above, you will be very well served by our retired priests and this group of parish leaders, as well. Pray for me as I shall pray for all of you. I ll be home for Christmas!
