2 2 Jubilee Year of Mercy Though Jesus told today s parable more than two thousand years ago, human nature hasn t changed: we recognize both characters instantly. The merciless judge represents the corruption that has short-circuited justice throughout history; the distraught widow, society s perennially powerless, marginalized to what Pope Francis calls the peripheries by those who wield power but lack the mercy that could transfigure society with compassion. To confront such reality, Jesus bids us, pray always without becoming weary (Luke 18:1). Prayer opens our eyes to see others from Jesus perspective, and leads us to work for justice by coming to the aid of others with what Pope Francis extols as a higher standard, mercy. Thus, when Jesus asks, Will not God secure the rights of [God s] chosen ones? Will [God] be slow to answer? (18:7). We respond by making God s liberating work for others our own. [W]hen the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? (18:8). Yes, we respond and mercy! -Fr. El juez injusto representa la corrupción que tienen los sistemas que administran la justicia a lo largo de la historia; la viuda desesperada representa a la suplicante sociedad impotente y marginada, a quien el Papa Francisco llama las periferias, por aquellos que ejercen el poder pero les falta misericordia que pueda transformar con compasión a la sociedad. Para hacer frente a esta realidad Jesús nos invita a orar siempre, sin desfallecer (Lucas 18:1). La oración abre nuestros ojos para ver a otros desde la perspectiva de Jesús y, nos guía a trabajar por la justicia yendo a la ayuda de los demás, con lo que el Papa Francisco enaltece entusiasmadamente como una norma muy alta, la misericordia. Por lo tanto, cuando Jesús pregunta Dios, no hará justicia a sus elegidos que claman ante él día y noche?; o les dará largas? (18:7). Respondemos haciendo nuestro el trabajo liberador de Dios que hace por los demás. Cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, encontrará esta fe en la tierra? (18:8). FUNERAL PLANNING If anyone is interested in planning your own funeral, please notify the church office ( ) or Pat Logsdon ( ). We will have a workshop and follow the Catholic Funeral guidelines. You can pick your readings and music and consider any special things you might want in your end of life celebration! A copy of this plan will go on file in the parish office. When your time comes to walk happily to Jesus, your family will be able to concentrate on your love and memory and not on the mechanics of your funeral! This is a truly generous gift for each of us to give our families! We will schedule sessions that suit each of you. Be sure to tell us your best day or your best time of day. God bless each of you! Pat Logsdon Volunteer Needed to remove recyclable materials from the church every two weeks and take it to the Harrodsburg Recycle Center. Due to the combined weight of the material, a person with a sound back is necessary. If you are interested, please call the church office, I want to give you an update on our search for a new choir accompanist. We have been most thorough in searching for someone to play organ and piano to accompany our choir and support our liturgies instrumentally. We contacted Karen Rood at the Office of Worship for the diocese. The job description is posted on the website of The Catholic Center. In addition, we have contacted the following colleges and universities: Center, EKU, Berea, and just this week, our new neighbors across the street, Campbellsville University. We have also contacted our nearby parishes in Danville, Springfield, and Lebanon. We continue looking and trusting that God will bring us the person that we need in His good time. You might pray for this intention through the intercession of Saint Cecilia, patroness of music. Praised be Jesus Christ! Now and forever! Father Al Christmas Bazaar November 18 & 19 We are asking everyone in the parish to join together and contribute to a successful Christmas Bazaar. Please plan to craft an item, make some ornaments, and/or put together a theme basket. These can be made at home individually, as a family, or get together in small groups. Then bring in your donations. We need them soon! There will be forms in the foyer for you to sign up for baskets. We will be happy to offer theme ideas. Also, we will be available to assist you if you gather your items and need help putting the basket together. We are in need of handmade ornaments, wreaths, and donations for the silent auction. We will also be doing a children s table where items will be available for children to purchase gifts for their parents and siblings. Contributions for this table would be greatly appreciated.
